Pruitt Should Apologize to Fans, the Team & Re-evaluate if He Still Wants to Be Coach

The message by the OP has to be one of the stupidest ones I've ever seen on here.

Pruitt was hired late in the process after the AD effed up coaching hire, was fired, and a new AD had to be hired. He did well in the early signing period.

But, come on, 4-8 and 0-8 is difficult to sell, especially when UT got such bad press with the coach hiring process and the subsequent firing of the AD.

Given all that has happened, Pruitt did pretty well, all things considered.

This recruit class took a nosedive. Multiple misses. “Sure things” flipping to other schools on NSD.

HUGE holes in the secondary and O-Line with little options to fill them. All while, Pruitt stayed at Alabama to coach in the playoffs—time that shouldve been spent working 100% on this recruit class and team.

Alabama benefits and at the same time sticks it to us twice: Pruitt helped them win another NC and it obviously negatively affected this years class and Pruitt’s ability to bring in talent.

Phil shares the blame in allowing him to coach an extra month at Alabama.

1) No recruit is a sure thing.
2) Jordan watched the massive meltdown that happened before CJP got here, don't blame him for flipping.
3) Young was a verbal commit for about a month and from sources I read was an expected flip.
4) Other than those two, who are the flips that were dedicated recruits?
5) No recruit is a sure thing.

Really??? I would hope that this was supposed to be in blue font. If not, you need to step away from whatever you are on. He was left a dumpster fire and the time he was at Alabama was a dead period in which he couldn't contact recruits anyway. Wow!

Do you think USC, PSU, Miami, OSU, etc.....coaches took off few weeks during the “dead period” to go lay by the beach until the dead period was over and their classes just magically zoomed to the top?.

Such a tired argument.

The difference is they had at least 2 years + to make relationships at their current school. It is a tired argument...

I am sure thinking about leaving this group. It sure has some of the most stupid post of any group I have ever seen. Why would you even think this before the man has even coached one game. "If you can't say something good then don't say anything at all".

Well.....bye

0-8 in the SEC. 4-8 on the season. Put yourself in the recruits shoes. Would you want to play for a losing team? Can't blame them for going elsewhere. WINNING will cure a lot of woes. We have GOT to win some games before recruits will start coming aboard. It's a catch 22 really. We need good players to win, but we can't get the elite players unless we win. It's a curse and a blessing to be in the SEC, the toughest conference in the nation. IMHO.

Exactly! I grew up a Vol fan, went to my first game in 1974 and hate Bama. But these kids CJP was recruiting didn't grow up thinking that Orange is the only color in the universe. If I was a big-time recruit, even I would have to consider where I KNOW I could go to win ballgames and compete for championships, not where I HOPE to.

Considering he was recruiting to a program that has ZERO SEC wins last year, he was up against a huge wall and I think he did pretty well. How do you sell that, compared to programs that competed for a national championship last year?

I was hoping for more too, but that was pretty much a pipe dream to land a large load of 4* and 5* players that don't have to step into such a mess.

The only way out (and up) is to start winning games and I think CJP and his staff will be able to do that.

Not sure which is worst: your post or those who liked your post. Go cheer for your own team troll

Fixed your post by leaving just the known facts.

So you contend that Pruitt didn't spend 3 weeks working for Alabama in December and January?

If you're interested in a prime real estate deal, I own a bridge in downtown Knoxville, has plenty of traffic and Neyland views.

If Vol football is not a happy place for you go some where that makes you happy. Life is too short to be unhappy.

If your kids are on the wrong path, just quit caring, life is too short to get bogged down with that kind of responsibility.

A bit of hyperbole there but this is what you're saying in a nut shell when you and others say "just stop caring" or "go cheer for someone else" as if that is possible for someone who has 40+ years financially and emotionally invested in the place. Without that investment, college football is empty stadiums and it likely doesn't exist.

p.s. if you're somehow happy with UT football, I can only assume we have different priorities regarding the program. You may simply enjoy it as if it were some sort of family reunion and have no investment in actually winning. I don't know. My priorities are different.

How much longer can you keep the temper tantrum going here? It’s not a “tired argument”, it’s a factual discussion.

I assume your name is Sam, because I just heard a guy named Sam call the Erik Ainge Shoe and sound exactly as your posts read on here....overly emotional, irrational and just nonsensical.

I'll admit that I'm amazed and impressed by the number of VN members who apparently own luxury boxes at Neyland, but spend the entire game in the bathroom because they just simply can't stand to watch the Vols play.

And those folks who know everything there is to know about being a major college football coach, but never bothered to apply for the job. Wonder why?

And here I am in the nosebleed seats with a 30 mile per hour wind coming off the river and blowing my popcorn four rows down. While Googling "Spider 2 Y Banana" to see what all the fuss is about.

Go Vols.

Dead period. Could recruit from anywhere

Yes, but occupied for multiple hours a day coaching Alabama. I can't imagine he was on the phone with recruits on the practice field, watching film etc etc. I.E not giving his all for Tennessee during an extremely key time of the year. It was a bad look, and his signing day swoon does more to confirm the mistake than to disprove it. After all, one of the main arguments was that somehow recruiting would be boosted by him helping Alabama win a title. Sadly, that didn't happen and Alabama won a championship. So the Vols got 2 bad results and 0 positives from his coaching the Tide during recruiting season.

75% of all 4 and 5 star players had signed before he went back to coach bama. UT likely sprung for unlimited calling on his phone and provided a laptop to watch film. He couldn't be on a field.

If these guys were so busy then how did the other playoff teams manage to do any recruiting during the dead period? Did they simply abandon recruiting during that "extremely key time of the year"?

Bullsh!+ "it was a bad look". You guys harping on this are abjectly ignorant clods and truly an embarassment to Tennesseeans and the very spirit of the Volunteer State. Stay away from children with your poor sportsmanship.

not to mention that we had the rest of the staff working during the dead period. they were making offers daily, communicating with recruits etc.....

and judging by the number of blue chip guys that showed up on campus that 1st OV weekend in January, i'd say they probably did as well as they possibly could.

this staff swung for the fences and whiffed. i didn't think we'd land them all, but i didn't think we'd lose out on all either. it was disappointing.

that still has more to do with me getting my hopes up more than it does what realistically should/could be expected. also, they did really well in the ESD, another reason to think that given this staff a month vs. a week to get guys on campus, they could close.

turns out that was just not the case.

Yeah your priorities seem to consist of b!tiching and whining about things you have no control over. That's a miserable life.
