Pruitt wouldnt survive a 1-7 record.

He’s interested otherwise he wouldn’t have made his recent comments about UT in 2005.

He has a huge ego and if you offer him
20 million a season. He’s at the presser with the Orange tie on.

Urban Meyer Called Tennessee One Of The "10 Best" Jobs In America

That response from him is no indication that he would be interested in the job. What he said was spot on correct regarding Tennesee of OLD, but here in our present state, this program is a train wreck. Meyer gets paid for his opinion and he gave it. Why people are reading between the lines, thinking he wants to come and coach here is beyond me.

We've been down this road before and not a single time has this university gone the route that Alabama did and lay the cash on the table for one of the biggest names in college football. Unfortunately, when the time comes to begin a new coaching search, this administration has proven over and over again that they'll shop in the bargain bin, bring them back to Knoxville and pay them well more than they are qualified for, including ridiculous buyouts within the coaches contract.

Don't hold your breath, Meyer nor any big name coach is going to come here with Fulmer at the helm. They'll make an offer to a mid major coach and we will all hope for the best.

If he finishes last in the East again, he’s gone imho.

But, what happens to Fulmer?

Pay Urban Myer whatever it takes if he’s willing to face Saban every season.

Even placing dead last in the entire SEC, I believe he's back for 2020, despite fan opposition.

Even with a record of 1-11, he's here in 2020. They are currently paying Jones his buyout, that would be in addition to Pruitt's buyout, then needing the cash to go ahead and hire another brand name coach and still have money lett over for the new coaching staff. Unfortunately, we are stuck with this current loser.

I only know one “connected” person in Knoxville.
He told me that if we lose the next 5, that the money people would pony up the buyout.
We have never started 1-7. That would be too big an embarrassment for our big donors.
Fulmer would be interim and they would go after a “proven power 5 winner”. (I laughed when he said that but he says you don’t know how angry Georgia State made them).

So, can we win one of these next 5:
At Florida
Georgia (after a bye week)
MSU
At Bama
USC

Pruitt has to just win one of those games and then get 2 more out of UAB, UK, MU, Vandy.
But, one of those two wins must be Vandy.
Our donors could, I’m told, live with 4-8 and 2 SEC wins if we don’t finish last in the East and Pruitt can hang onto Bailey and a decent 25-30 ranked recruiting class.

If we can somehow win tomorrow, the only sure losses left are UGA and Bama.
But, if we get our clocks cleaned by UF, we may just fall apart.

*** Many grains of salt needed, of course. This is just one guy. But, he’s not a liar and he’s a wealthy blue blood and travels in circles that I could never get anywhere.near.
LOL OK guy

Yeah. I'm thinking we're stuck with this loser.

IF he's fired before February 2020, he's owed $9.12 million

2021 - $6.8 million
2022 - $4.56 million
2023 - $2.28 million
2024 - contract expires
Please refigure those numbers in amounts of Pilot Oil.

Pruitt gets this year and next, almost no matter what.

That being said, brace yourself for 3-9 or 4-8. I don't see how this team beats any other SEC team other than maybe...maybe UK and Vandy. I'm holding my nose and counting UAB as a win, so I can see 3-9. or maybe 4-8. At this point, 5-7 is a good rebound from where we are right now. And probably out of reach.

I can also see 2-10. Doubt it goes that bad, but still...

But a losing record next year, IMO, would be the end of the Pruitt era. He is officially on the hot seat now.

I have no idea. He came with a great pedigree and resume', which none of our other bad choices really had. But if Pruitt doesn't pan out, it's going to be awfully hard to find a proven coach willing to come to Knoxville and step into the World's Largest Dumpster Fire.

So let's hope he gets it figured out, and soon. FWIW, I think it's time to put JG on the bench to stay, and roll with the youngsters at QB. Pruitt is coaching for his job now, and JG...bless his heart...is the football equivalent of a bad hill to die on. It is what it is. Besides, how much worse can it get? Best to roll with Maurer or Shrout. If nothing else, you're showing HB that the job is his if he can come in and have a strong spring and fall camp.

Go Vols.

How much worse can it get?

Just wait. I would go ahead and walk away from this for awhile. It’s going to be brutal. Watch games and whatever but don’t get emotionally invested. It is what it is.

I am not worried about Pruitt losing his job. The only way he needs to worry is if we go winless the rest of the year. PF will give him another year no matter the record this year. Another coaches search is the last thing we need right now. This is going to take time.
It would be insane to fire pruitt. You people are crazy want to fire pruitt now

Big boosters won’t stand by and let a 1-11 coach continue into 2020 it won’t happen no matter how much some of the sunshine pumpers keep saying blah blah blah he’s staying till 2021 even if we went 0-12. GTFO with that BS. They gonna look stupid when this team finishes 1-11 and the next morning wake up only to find out the AD and Pruitt were fired ....

Ok. So they fire Pruitt, then what? UT will be paying jones his buyout, add to that Pruitts for a few years (if they make the 275k payments) and in addition, a salary for the new coach and his staff.

I'm no sunshine pumper and I want this Bama disciple sent packing now. However, I'm also a realist and understand this from a financial perspective with previous hiring/ firing to judge from. I would be shocked if this administration didnt give Pruitt one more year, maybe with stipulations, but still one more year.

Its the going thing right now. its all Pruitts fault. The players get a pass because they arent getting paid. Jennings dropping a TD? Pruitts fault. Missed tackle? Pruitts fault. Bad angle and guy gets burnt? Pruitts fault. OL cannot block? Pruitts fault. Its beyond comical. Pruitt is definitely not shown he is a good coach but laying virtually everything that is wrong with this tam at his feet is just a convenient excuse for some to berate him.

Some fans want to believe that the absolute only thing a HC looks for when taking a job is money. They also believe that because we have some big money boosters that they will be just willing to shell out whatever amount the fans want, plus pay Pruitt and his staffs entier buyout and everything will be kosher then. It seems like some on VN are living in fantasy land.

Ar

Are you telling me that if a booster came in and donated that amount for that specific purpose they won’t take it?
Who exactly do you think is in line to do that?

I'm assuming it must be "new money," because he or she CERTAINLY wasn't handing out $20 million during the past three searches.

I don’t! Someone will pay the money to pay the buyout.

Certainly, someone that is tired of seeing UT lose, it may be several boosters that come up with the cash all with the same desire, MAKE UT GREAT AGAIN.

They haven't ponied up for anyone widely viewed as a top notch coach since Majors was hired. I don't see that changing now. Best case scenario is that Pruitt manages to get us to 5 wins this season and has a successful 2020 season. If Pruitt is fired during or directly after this season, though, Norvell would be the best case scenario and I'm not sure he would even be interested given how far the program has fallen.

What does "success" look like in 2020?

What does "success" look like in 2020?

I'm honestly not sure yet as stupid as that may sound. Obviously a bowl game is a requirement, but I'm still too befuddled by this catastrophic failure of a season we're starting at to really define specifics as to what a successful 2020 would be look like.
