Pruitt wouldnt survive a 1-7 record.

I only know one “connected” person in Knoxville.
He told me that if we lose the next 5, that the money people would pony up the buyout.
We have never started 1-7. That would be too big an embarrassment for our big donors.
Fulmer would be interim and they would go after a “proven power 5 winner”. (I laughed when he said that but he says you don’t know how angry Georgia State made them).

So, can we win one of these next 5:
At Florida
Georgia (after a bye week)
MSU
At Bama
USC

Pruitt has to just win one of those games and then get 2 more out of UAB, UK, MU, Vandy.
But, one of those two wins must be Vandy.
Our donors could, I’m told, live with 4-8 and 2 SEC wins if we don’t finish last in the East and Pruitt can hang onto Bailey and a decent 25-30 ranked recruiting class.

If we can somehow win tomorrow, the only sure losses left are UGA and Bama.
But, if we get our clocks cleaned by UF, we may just fall apart.

*** Many grains of salt needed, of course. This is just one guy. But, he’s not a liar and he’s a wealthy blue blood and travels in circles that I could never get anywhere.near.
Insider status.lol

One mans opinion ain’t everybody’s opinion.

Falling into the same trap we did with Butch Jones. A coach should only be judged on his wins.
Not really but I do agree to a degree. Pruitt should be judged on wins and losses against teams with similar talent and the direction the program is going in. What’s troubling to me is the loss to Ga State. That’s inexcusable.

So is a blowout loss to Vandy. Two strikes against the guy.

Vandy had more talent than Tennessee. A lot of the upperclassmen simply were not interested in a bowl game and the extra practices that went with them.

I know that sounds like excuses but it’s facts. Blame the staff as much as you like on that. It’s the head coach’s responsibility but you can only motivate so much.

No offense, OP, I get that you're only passing along insights, but there is no way Pruiit will not be our football coach next year, even with a 1-7 record. Fulmer has staked his name, reputation, legacy, and career as an AD on Pruitt. There is no way he will let Pruitt fail. If we go 1-7, there will be a white-hot blowtorch on both of their butts, no doubt, but Jeremy Pruitt will get at least another year or two as our head coach, like it or not.

Everyone keeps saying this. Every proven coach has an Ego that would believe they could do it here. No one seems to acknowledge this side of the coin. Say it with me ... Big Egos

...This staff has had a lot of success, they didn't all go dumb as soon as they got to Knoxville ...
Probably noticed a lot of it though.
Currently at the table of my weekly poker game with a few of my buddies. One of my friend’s uncles is a big money guy in Knoxville. He loosened up after a few silver bullets and told me that Gruden is unhappy in Oakland. His wife is ready to move back to East Tennessee. He’s in play.
SOON! This and last year have all been a big part of the "smoke screen"

Many Sunshine Pumpers believe that even if we have a one win season, and several more one game seasons, after this season, we must stick by our hire, five or six more years- if necessary, because bad seasons are okay, as long as you don't hire and fire coaches very often! I'm serious, read the threads! 1-7 and he is gone, I wonder how they came up with that number, 1-6 seems like Cr*p to me, for that matter 1-2 (GS and BYU) have made us look like a dead program. Tomorrow, the FL is going to be very telling.

Vandy didn’t and doesn’t have more talent than us, same for Mizzou

Why is it we all hear these stories about “big money s going to pony up the buyout” when they never show up when it’s buyout time or when it’s time to hire a new coach? AD and it’s revenues(which never increase significantly in buyout years) pay the buyouts & new coaches salary. Ga State should have pissed people off but I’m tired of “big hat and no cattle” tales. Show me the money!

Dooley was hired in 2010 after Kiffin screwed us over. Kiffin had run off some of Fulmer’s players then had recruits flip to USC. Dooley stepped into a far worse situation than Pruitt did. So my question is, after the UK loss in 2011, should Dooley have been fired? Did UT do the right thing by giving him a 3rd year?
Good question. Not sure, Dooley was a knucklehead, 3rd year was a present.

A big Ego is one thing but coming to a place where expectations are "lofty" with nothing to back up those expectations is a different story. Add to that the likelihood of a short tenure if results aren't seen immediately and that's a receipe for another failed coaching search/hire.

Name one that said that....cause those same coaches know he inherited a mess.
You have a point, but if you go back and read the assessment of our teams under boy butch ( by a large number of self proclaimed experts) on this board and others, you'll see a large number felt boy butch was a super-duper recruiter, yes sir, heard it often, usually right after they said, "He has us moving the right direction...." or "He inherited a dumpster fire, he's rebuilding brick by brick" and the crap went on and on. Yet, in his fifth year, we all know what happened. Evidently we were not moving in the right direction, he wasn't The living end when it came to recruiting etc. So, I guess all the coaches knew JP inherited a mess, but large number of Vol Fans were fooled year after year, into believing "we were moving in the right direction"!!! How do all the other coaches feel about CP's work?
