Getting into an academy is not even remotely comparable to a kid who may have gotten preferential treatment because his daddy pulled a few strings. The kid is a sun belt talent at best.
And you think the UT doesn't have a history of the same thing regarding the sons of some wealthy and generous donors?
Scholarships are not need based and usually earned. Personally and without a shred of proof, I believe the offers he got were tied to dad Diddly's potential to becoming a big money booster. Which is due to the colleges' money lust. The kid's a 2 star yet got offers from Illinois, Iowa, and Virginia. Plus of course such lower ranked schools like MTSU, Wyoming, Tenn. Tech, and UAB.
If I was this kid, I'd reopen my recruitment and go play for William & Mary, Towson, James Madison, or Old Dominion where such a stupid ruckus is unlikely to be raised.
Yea I realize that but he's trying to pigeon hole the guy based on his offer sheet. You can't always judge based on that alone.
He didn't get offered by Iowa. And Illinois and Virginia are just not even remotely on the same level as UCLA prestige and tradition wise - they have a tradition of being utterly crappy programs. I think it's slightly more fishy that he happened to get an offer from an LA school. If it were Iowa which is in Better shape - then I would be less likely to think puff was involved due to the location of the campus.
but did he? Offer list at the very least raises some questions and you can't deny that.
So is it not possible that the coaches just see potential in him? So Derek Reese is getting special treatment from CCM? Or Chris lofton got special treatment? No! The school sees potential and has decided to give them a scholarship, just because their offer list doesn't impress you doesn't immediately mean they're receiving special treatment.
Ok, then I wonder why he didn't pick USC for dad to bribe? Seriously man, I don't dismiss that papa Puff's money was a factor. I do think the ruckus about it is BS as it happens with many other well to do kids every year. I really think he should just leave UCLA and go to some small college not necessarily well known for football but where you'd leave with a diploma of prestige. No, not Vandy, but Towson, W&M, something like that. Just to shut people up. Of course if he dreams of playing in the NFL, UCLA makes sense. Thank goodness it's not the UT or inhumane Vols fans would spew venom at him to the point he'd leave the program not with a diploma but on a helicopter to a hospital with no hope of recovery.
First of all kids grey shirt all the time. Which is basically doing the same thing just for 1 year. I can name hundreds of those.
You would compare his wealth to Puffs? Lol.
And Tobias was an NBA talent playing for an SEC school - not a sun belt talent playing in the PAC-12.
That's my point. While the Harris family isn't as wealthy as combs they're more than wealthy enough to pay for their kids school, an would be considered wealthy by most people.
So where do you draw the line? If you're worth is over 500 million you should pay for your kids school, anything less and it's ok for them to be on scholarship?
Really? Comparing Mr Kentucky basketball out of high school to a sun belt level football player?
And to answer your question yes it is possible - but that's why I said It raises some eyebrows... Especially with the location and the fact who his dad is. Chris Loftons dad didnt have the ability to bribe UT with money or whatever Puff might have done.
So you're entire opinion on this is based on your assumption that puffy bribed UCLA? Classy.
Instead of giving the kid the benefit of the doubt, and not having proof at all to support your theory, you form this conclusion...
1 year, not 4.
You Said there's a lot of examples of athletes offered scholarships who's parents are wealthy, that turned down the scholarship to walk on.
Since there's "ALOT" of these examples I'd be interested in hearing some of them.
