Pussy Riot

I'd say it has more to do with criticizing Putin and his attempt to delegitimize dissent.

I get the impression this is aimed at what the girls said about Putin. The Church is being used as an excuse.

OP deserves any mockery coming for trying to make this a religious right driven issue.

Seriously, get a job.

so strange how 2 people can read the same article and come away with completely different reasons for it. I'll be interested to see if anyone else agrees with the OP and his idea

Yeah, not so much religious right. I know the Orthodox church loves Putin, but this should've just been a trespassing charge.

I'm religious, and would openly riot for P if I was cut off....but that is just me.

I'm interested in exactly what the law says.

The defendants were accused of offending the churchgoers present -- through their actions, obscene language and their clothing -- and showing a lack of respect for the rules of the Orthodox Church. They ignored requests to stop their brief unscheduled protest performance, the court heard.

Would this crime be the same if the band did the same thing in a public square? Or does the Orthodox Church have special laws? Why is this a criminal and not a church matter?

I started to request that a mod change the OP thread title to "Russian Politics" as that is clearly more appropriate, but on second thought would probably be best to leave as is to record the idiocy of this post.

This is well below OP's normal standards, which I had somewhat become accustomed to.

Leave it to LG to actually lower the Mendoza line.

isn't it about time LG got the gsvol treatment and all of his pointless threads merged into one giant compendium of mediocrity?

Protestors were heard yelling free pussy. Sadly many men missunderstood and rape charges are now being filed.

I can't name a single female punk band that has ever:
a) done anything good
b) made anywhere close to decent music.

Punk rock and female vocals just don't work.

What happens when the religious right, anywhere, takes itself too seriously.

Russian court imprisons Pussy Riot band members on hooliganism charges - CNN.com

Wow, your true colors come out finally. A Socialist ambulance chasing lawyer through and through. They were imprisoned for anti-Putin protests. But you keep on knocking those of us that hide behind our guns and bibles. One of these days we will play cowboys and socialists...we haven't yet, but its a comin.

In a public square they would have been shot.
