Put up or Shut up Time for Coach Martin

Craft's father said Pearl never asked him to lie. It's hard to beat that for a source.

The NCAA caught Pearl lying. Pearl had a reputation as a liar before he made it to U.T. The NCAA gave Pearl the rope and Pearl tied it around his own neck. Again, this goes back to before Pearl was the coach at U.T.

Drew touched on it, but nothing in his first class should count against him.

Reese is a contributor. He is one of the first off the bench and is a role player who fits his role well. No one is calling him, or would ever mistake him for more than a complimentary player. That is a lot more than anyone expected, as many had crossed him off the roster at this time in both of the past two seasons.

Ndiaye is a project who didn't pan out. Edwards was a JUCO kid who never learned to defend at an acceptable level.

Outside of that, Stokes, Richardson, Moore, Hubbs, Thompson, Davis have all shown an ability to play at this level.

If I left anyone out, it was unintentional, but as I said before, I'm okay with CCM's talent evaluation and recruiting to this point. I'm okay with the projects or "second-tier" recruits too because he and his staff have demonstrated an ability to develop players.

I have much larger questions about his ability to manage a team and make adjustments within a game.

The problem wasn't so much his dice rolling in year one, it was his continued dice rolling in year two and three.

I agree with the people you said have shown that they can play, not really sure that they can form a team that wins at an acceptable level though. Therein lies the problem. Almost half the people he's taken commits from/signed, have either little or no upside.

I saw recently another "diamond in the rough" had popped onto the radar in Jonathan Nwankwo. Lower majors and a few NIT level teams have offered him to date, and apparently we have.

Funny, in his 3rd class his players had the following offers:

AJ Davis:
Auburn
Clemson
Georgia
Georgia Tech

Hubbs:
Arkansas
Auburn
Duke
Florida
Georgia
Memphis
etc

Thompson:
Auburn
Butler
Nc St.
Purdue

That is what you would expect. Martin's started recruiting these kids when they were sophomores in high school, so he wasn't playing catch up. Signing Hubbs was a huge recruiting upset.

Nah, let's just continue to be mediocre and watch Florida reel off national titles.

Because we're a football school and they're not right?

Oh wait, it's because they're in Florida, where all the talent is right?

Let's keep a guy a can't even sign a Top 30 class in his 3rd year. Makes sense.

Maybe you've been to one too many panic shows. Florida is loaded with talent.

The following UF players are from Florida:

Scottie Wilbekin
Kasey Hill
Patrick Hill
Will Yeguette
Mike Frazier
Chris Walker

They have a few other Florida products that fill out the roster. They only have 4 players not from Florida. However, don't let facts get in your way.

You obviusly missed my point.

I realize that the state of Florida is loaded with talent.

Thus, we need a coach who can recruit top talent in state AND NATIONALLY to keep up. 3 star recruits won't cut it. Especially with the apparent lack of Cuonzo's ability to coach them up.

Get it?

What about 5* players. I see 2 in 4 years. That's the exact same number of 5* players that Bruce Pearl signed...correct?

Correct. The difference being that Pearl could coach up the players around them.

Honest question, will we be better next year with almost all Cuonzo's recruits?

Hypothetically speaking:

PG: Thompson
SG: Hubbs
SF: Richardson
PF: Davis
C: Stokes

Would be an interesting and athletic line up.

I will be interested to see if Martin brings in another 5th year transfer in the post.

I think Stokes is gone. Would be huge if he stays. But I think he's maxed out his college game. I'd do a year in Europe if I were him than test the NBA next year.

No, Ramar Smith, Duke Crews, Harris, and Hopson were 5 stars off the top of my head.

And those guys were bolstered with top 75 players like Wayne Chism, Cam Tatum, Jordy, etc etc.

Look at it this way, this was probably considered Zo's best class top to bottom and it's 49th nationally and 8th in the SEC.

I have been super critical of CCM on occasion and rightfully so the majority of the time. However, I have to give him props for getting his team ready down the stretch. The previous game against UF was a solid performance and most likely would of been a win if we shoot a tad bit better. We have a good amount of momentum entering this tournament. I have seen Iowa play this year and if we play the way we played against UF, Missouri, Vandy etc. we can beat them soundly. Lets get behind our coach. If CCM lays an egg in the dance, everything will take care of itself. GBO!

I agree with this. We should have no problem with Iowa if we play our game.

Stokes' issue is that he won't be able to operate close to the basket in the NBA as he does in college--not tall enough. He will need more of an outside game. Not sure he's got enough game...I think Martin is an OK coach--just that, OK. He's proved that he's no better than OK. He's got a chance now, but really, it's hard to see us making much noise. Next year will be rough.

If he could have only signed the 4* white kid out of Ohio...what was the kids name...Craft something if I recall. Too bad he didn't like bbq.

Yep, I suspect we'd be around 27-6 right now, a top 5 seed and playing in our 9th straight tourney. Probably have a top 15 class coming in too.

He is probably here no matter what happens but one win will secure his job. We are not paying top dollar for another coach, Pearl likely isnt coming, and we dont need another up and comer. As long as no extension is given, next years buyout is lower and next years team is all Martin's. At that point if he doesnt get the job done, then he will be fired. Hopefully the football team will be in better shape than the past and some more money will roll in. Coaching prospects will see that we gave Martin every chance to be successful.

Coaching prospects have seen how back stabbing and TERRIBLE the Vol fans have been. When the commentators on ESPN & other networks are saying you people don't have a clue what you are talking about & need to shut the f*** up,then it's bad folks. No coach, players, or recruits want any part of that.

If Pearl is interested, Cuonzo has to win a lot of tourney games to get one more year.

If Pearl is interested, and Dave Hart is not preparing the transition, it is put up or shut up time on the Hitman.

The only thing is this situation could resolve itself next year anyway where no one could complain. We don't feel we will be as good next year (and we are a "play-in" team this year), and I think we could poach Bruce from Auburn in a one-and-done.

Realistically what I'm hearing is Iowa has been on a losing streak, we have been winning, UMass does not belong at a 6 seed. I think we win two and can beat Dukie, based on Virginia win and our drilling of Virginia. When former Vandy players and coach are pretty much predicting at least two wins as much as we dislike one another, ALL the marbles may be on the line for Coach Martin.

I wish you would shutup, just saying!!!!!!!!

Who said that?
