QB competition..

after rereading some of this,do ya'll think the Defensive line might be that much more improved from last year ?

Yes - LB corps should be very good, especially the tandem of Maggit and Johnson. The secondary at this time appears to be more capable than last year's unit.

No/Maybe - The front four or seven hasn't truly been tested yet. Playing against our very inexperienced OL doesn't really speak of their effectiveness. We won't really know until the Oklahoma game if they're legit.

Predictions:

--Secondary will be faster and more capable of limiting the effectiveness of big WRs. In games where WRs don't have superior height, our secondary will prove to be consistent ball hawks.

--QB pressure will be slightly improved mainly due to a better secondary. This will force QBs to wait longer or run sooner. We'll seal off the edges better than last year. The result will be that after being hit a few times by the LBs, I don't think opposing QBs will want to run.

--Once again we will be vulnerable to teams that have big fast RBs and speedy scatbacks. So in some games we will see an adequate run stopping ability and in other games, find ourselves being gutted by running backs. However, I see fewer homerun hits due to better pursuit and speed on defense.

So says the weather man, the whether man says.

Listening to Doug Matthews. He just spoke about the quarterbacks and the first one he mentioned was Riley Ferguson. Said he was very talented that he does still make some mistakes but that he will get a ton of snaps in the fall even if he isn't the starter. Said as of now he would assume that Worley will start against Utah State because of his experience.

Said that Dobbs is third and Peterman's fourth even though Peterman is a solid football player

Just curious..

I was trying to find the 40 times for all QBs. I couldnt find Peterman or Worley's.

Ferguson - 4.8
Dobbs - 4.9
Peterman - ?
Worley - ?

I honestly believe butch wants to start Riley but is not going to hand him the job. The only qb on our roster with the adequate arm strength to be successful in the sec.

if the Defense can hold, you play the safe qb and rely on the defense until the more explosive QB can come in and play smarter...

So you saw one picture, one time, that you interpreted as Worley being scared and have determined that he has no ability...? Yeah, that sounds reasonable. :whistling:

Make no mistake, Worley has ability and some talent. By "deer in the headlights"..... was to say that None of our QB's will have an opportunity to stay in the pocket for very long this season. Worley liked to ride it out last season till pressure came, even when receivers were open. We, most likely won't have as good OL this season, so will A QB(WHICHEVER OF THE FOUR)...have a great deal of time to decide what where to throw? Does sound reasonable to you?

So you know for a fact that our O Line is going to be bad? Impossible. Yes they will be young but who's to say they will not be better than last year? Nobody knows that. Also last year could really be considered Worleys freshman year as far as starting goes. WRs had many drops. From what I have been reading Worley seems to be separating himself from the pack. You might have to accept the fact that Worley could be the starting QB. Can you handle that?

If the OL is that bad... then it will be Peterman... by attrition.

I still think the OL will surprise the "experts" here and elsewhere. There is sufficient talent. The coaches seem to be taking the Spring to experiment with different guys in different positions. Once that settles out and they get some continuity then... and ONLY THEN... will anyone outside the coaches' meeting room know what UT has.

It IS disconcerting that LT is still such a question but that IMO is the only spot of real concern.

What is Up with reading comprehension? Did I say the OL will be bad? Come on, man....I am not bashing a damn thing. I hope Worley dominates. I hope Peterman dominates. I hope Fergy dominates. I hope Dobbs dominates. I don't give a stray Fu@# who our QB will be.......as long as whichever(more than one) improve game day and get us to at least a bowl game Can you can handle that along with reading comprehension?. By the way, Which QB threw more ints FLA game?

Worley and Peterman each threw 2 ints the Florida game.

And Dobbs choked some/alot 4-6 months out of High School, and Fergy is inconsistent. They are all good.....but its getting closer to nut cutting. Hopefully....we play two for the first couple games to settle it up if things are not iron clad in fall camp.

Oranges and apples. Worley came in for the second half trying to rally for a comeback. He took more risks because the game was already out of hand.

Aware of that. Was answering another poster who intimated that one or the other threw more ints than the other to make some point. Fact was, despite the circumstances, they both threw 2 picks. Obviously, Worley played much, much better than Peterman and his .7 passer rating.

Outside of Western Kentucky/Austin Peay, aren't all of our games out hand to a degree in the late 1st/early 2nd half?

Not following. You asked the question "who threw more ints in the Florida game?" as though one threw more than the other. Simply gave the factual answer..., both threw 2 picks.

We don't have an sec top caliber QB on roster otherwise we would know who the starter is.

Plenty of schools in the sec don't know who their starter will be right now....doesn't mean they don't have a potential top caliber SEC QB.... same goes for UT at the moment IMO. 2 years ago Manziel had a fairly poor spring practice for TAM and soon thereafter won the Heisman. Just sayin

Do you mean that as a statement of fact or opinion?

It is NOT a fact that "we would know" if UT has an SEC top caliber QB at this point.

Anyone who has been paying attention to spring practice reports for any length of time KNOWS that things are often VERY different from what they seem.

Exactly. There are plenty of Tyler Bray supporters on here that would go to the mat defending his 3 year performance at UT cause he could really spin it..... he was something like 5-32 passing his last O&W game.

I knew the answer when i asked it. The question was made to make a point that Peterman and Worley both turned over plaenty enough.

Statistics... and damn lies.

Peterman had no business starting against Florida. Worley looked like Tom Brady relative to Peterman in that game.

Right now, the decision to play Peterman is a HUGE question mark on whether "Butch gets it." His decision to start him, his decision to play him for four straight turnovers - it made him look like a coach in over his head, a coach who didn't trust what he saw in practice, and a coach who actually caved to fan pressure.

If Butch continues to recruit lights out, I don't care if he's a bad game day coach. Recruiting fixes 80% of everything. And if it truly turns out Butch ain't worth a lick on gameday, the next guy will be loaded and ready.

Wasn't equating their individual performances vs Florida. Peterman was GOD awful and Worley played well the 2nd half. Was just answering what I thought was an honest question from another poster.
