QB Position

If Cook was our qb this year, more than likely we are 10-0 / 9-1
Yep. As disappointing as our defense has been the last few games, a lot of it is on the O for not being able to sustain drives. It’s a horrible combination, a defense that can’t get off the field on 3rd downs and an offense that struggles to sustain drives.

A good qb causes all the players to play better.
If you want a perfect example , just look at the Houston Texans after they lost Massage King Deshaun Watson to Cleveland. They tried back up QB David Mills for all of last season and hardly won a single game.. Just compare him to CJ Stroud who leads the NFL in his rookie season. Some QB''s have " it" and some don't. Biggest problem with Milton IMHO is he fires a rocket on every pass....go look at how CJ Stroud lays a perfect catchable ball right in the hands, much like Hooker did all last year.

I know it's no surprise that the QB position is an important one. Most people would agree with this. If there was a top QB in College Station over the last couple years, Jimbo would still be there. Scott Frost would still be in Lincoln. Harsin would possibly still be at Auburn etc... . The whole team plays better with a smooth qb. Last year with Hendon I've never felt more relaxed watching a TN game. Don't sweat the small stuff becuase we have that guy. Nico will win the Heisman in this offense and we will compete for a Natty. Enjoy it fellas.

We hope so, but I'm sure Georgia had higher expectations for Vandagriff. Bama had high expectations for Simpson. Clemson had high expectations for Uiagalelei AND Klubnik. A&M had high expectations for Weigman. Rattler... Daniels... the list goes on and on. There are no guarantees that a 5-star QB will find success in college. There are misses in every class.

Does Bailey have any eligibility left after this year?
Hahahahaha

Without going back and searching, i feel confident it is the same crew that touted HB as the savior of Vol football that is hyping Nico without seeing him play any meaningful snaps.

Personally, based on HS film, i think Nico is much better than HB. But until he has a firebrrathing 230lb SEC lber/DE drawing a bead on him just as he steps into a pass, we wont really know how good he is.

Milton pretty much has to rely on his recievers to get wide open. Does not know how to throw someone open or improvise when a play breaks down. Puts a ton of pressure on the playcallers because they know this and are less likely to call plays that take time to develop. With Hooker they could call anything just about and look like geniuses because he would find a way to keep the ball moving. If the line broke down he knew when to scramble. Milton will stare his first target down and if that isnt there its too late. Tremendous talent, just isnt the gamer Hooker was.
if we don't hit the portal and get an offensive line for next year, he won't even have time to wait until they are open - this is the area that concerns me the most for next year. defensively we have to get better right?

Losing a lot on the D line. Baron and Thomas are gone. Hopefully Tyre West and Daevin Hobbes will develop nicely. I’ll believe the secondary will be better when I see it.

The most important position on the team is the QB imo. I don't pretend to know how well Nico will do, but I suspect he can't be as pitiful as Milton. Sometimes in life it's not so much your ability, although it does indeed matter, it's about the chemistry you create around you that inspires people to dig down a little deeper. Milton doesn't have that.

I disagree - It is one of the important positions for the offense. But it does no good to have the best QB in the country if the other team is scoring at will against your defense. Case in point the South Carolina game last year and Bama too where we had to outscore a team we could not stop from scoring.

It will not matter how good Nico is or isn't if the defense doesn't improve.

I'm approaching this from a very simple minded position, I may very well be wrong, but I still think a "good" qb who has a natural ability to bring chemistry to a team, makes the team. The entire team performs better.

Understood - I just know we won the championship in 1998 despite not having a Manning or a Dobbs or a Hooker, etc.

Offense generates interest and sells the tickets, so to speak, but defense typically is what wins the games.

We need to hit the transfer portal for defensive players.

Milton’s biggest problem is indecisiveness, full stop. Hooker learned to let the game come to him and played like he was having fun. Milton looks like he’s trying not to make a mistake.

I hope Joe can figure it out at the next level, but we’ll see. I think he’s a great teammate and overall good guy. I appreciate him for sticking things out and being a mentor to Nico this year if nothing else.

Milton ain’t it. An old school game manager. But when our run game is shut down we will not win. We need someone that can take over. Hopefully Nico is good. Josh Heupel has to be frustrated with his worst offense he’s ever fielded. Right ?itn
Is it Milton or is it the receivers? Joe made almost all the throws and was very good on the slants the last 4 games. He's completing over 70% of his passes during that time. He's progressed and has played at a pretty high level. Unfortunately, we don't have receivers that consistently give us the deep threat, no one that Joe can count to go up and get "jump balls", and they have too many drops (Keyton in particular). Thornton was a non-factor when he was in the slot. Joe's not Hooker, but he's much better than a lot of the fans give him credit for. Give him Hyatt and Tillman and we're likely 9-1 right now.

Heupel finally got to showcase his prized possession this season for all the world to see in Milton. The best laid plans of mice and men yada yada yada. Hope he's finally gotten it out of his system as in modernity UT has been blessed rather cursed with coaches who get starry eyed over bad QBs.

Ask yourself, if you had Missouri's QB...what would've it looked like? Watch him, watch Joe, play calling considered...what do you think? And the MO QB ain't all that. So yeah QB matters, a lot. Question is what's the difference between Hooker, Cook and Milton?
Cook wasn't coached by Heupel?

Our future rests in the hands of a kid who played a 7-on-7 tournament in pajama pants and sunglasses. Part of me thinks he has moxie, but another part of me thinks he has the mentality of a 13-year old. Who knows

This 100% he plays like every choice he make is scrutinized. And it is by a fanbase that majority of knowledge come from playing a video game...it has to be frustrating for Joe. I hope he learns to ignore these morons and just play...I think he will actually be a better pro QB.
