QB Position

The excitement for JG was gone long before anyone ran him out of here on a rail.
The intent of that quote was, it was basically over before he ever showed any 5 star quality. Then he was on route to be benched to portal status.

It is the most important single position. That shouldn’t even be debatable. Yes, having a good defense is important. As is having a good line etc. But the teams success begins with great qb play. That’s why nfl teams routinely pay their qb up to 20% of the entire payroll.
This all day^, and guess what having a great QB helps your D. You have sustained drives taking pressure off D and you score more points taking pressure off D. I know its very simple, a generational QB can sustain a bad D, look at our team last year. Almost made the playoffs with a Bad D. IMO a worse D than we have now.

This year is what it is. It was a year given to Joe Milton. He hasn’t done bad but he hasn’t done great. He’s done ok in my estimation. It’s like many of you have said, he can’t win the game like Hooker but he’s a good game manager. I don’t know if that indicates anything towards how good Nico will be or not. I just don’t know if I’m comfortable with Nico being the only guy legitimately competing for the job. Merklinger will be a good QB in college IMO, but we need to get another QB out of the portal who thinks that they can compete with Nico for the starting job. I think Nico has all the talent and physical tools in the world, but I’ve seen this story too many times with guys like Crompton, JG, etc who were all very highly rated but just didn’t live up to the hype. I think Nico will end up being great, but I also think we NEED to have another option if he’s not as great as we think he is. Relying on 2 freshmen QBs next season is not ideal.

Better hope Nico is all that and a bag of chips with the attrition on the LOS after this year.

If Milton is struggling in the first quarter I say put Nico in and see what happens. Georgia would not be ready for him like they will be for Milton. Nico escapes pressure better and can extend plays.
I can almost guarantee you that if we brought Nico in Ga will be ready for him and by ready I mean bring the house. You know someone on that D is going to want to be the first to put a good hit on the $8million man
Ga is still playing to go undefeated and 3peat. If we had a quality O Line things would probably fair better

No, but Milton's limitations are this team's limitations. He's an okay QB and UT is an okay team. You wanna shoot for the stars, you need a high flyin' QB. With Milton at QB, it's like a fighter in the ring with one hand tied behind his back.
Then by your way of thinking Alabama should have won the west last year and been in the NC game.

Our QB against Alabama was equal to theirs. we our scored them in an offensive contest Their QB this years has also become a dominate QB and they have almost an even chance to beat Georgia in the SEC Championship game, mainly because of much better play by their QB in the last four games. In the top 10 teams this year, the one with the best QB is likely to win In a head to head game.

This is a ridiculous comment that makes no sense? We had a dynamic quarterback last year? That’s why we beat Alabama? This year we don’t and we didn’t win. Milton overthrew 2 open tds inside the red zone forcing us to leave 8 points off the board. People are so used to his limitations… That when he hits half of the open throw people call it a success. Great quarterbacks hit virtually all of the open wrs.
No QB completes 100% but many of the incompletions are on tight coverage where the defensive back knocks the ball away. Many of Milton’s incompletions (especially early in the year) were too wide open receivers.
He’s not a great passer. Which would be ok if he was at least a dynamic athlete that could make explosive runs to compensate and make intelligent/savvy decisions through the game, but he does neither of those either.

It is not ridiculous for what you said. It takes a lot more than just a quarterback to be a successful team. That is why there are 22 players on the field at any time.

I dont want to accept defeat to Georgia if Milton is not getting it done. Nico could get hurt in any game even in a cupcake game like Tillman did against Akron. Can’t remember who we were playing but Milton got his knee hurt against lesser competition this year.

Why? What's the difference? He's not bigger than Joe, nor does he have the arm strength he does. They both are pretty decent on the move when they run it. So why the difference? BTW, the questions are somewhat rhetorical.
The difference is between the ears. Milton doesn’t have any instincts of the game, no anticipation. Now granted I don’t blame Joe for all our problems this year. His line, recievers and defense hasn’t helped him out all year. Especially that Mizzou game! But responding to the post about what’s the difference between Milton and Cook this is my opinion.

Milton’s biggest problem is indecisiveness, full stop. Hooker learned to let the game come to him and played like he was having fun. Milton looks like he’s trying not to make a mistake.

I hope Joe can figure it out at the next level, but we’ll see. I think he’s a great teammate and overall good guy. I appreciate him for sticking things out and being a mentor to Nico this year if nothing else.
I believe this is spot on. Well put!

Our future rests in the hands of a kid who played a 7-on-7 tournament in pajama pants and sunglasses. Part of me thinks he has moxie, but another part of me thinks he has the mentality of a 13-year old. Who knows
If he’s not the answer I fully believe the guy coming in behind him will be a stud
