Our future rests in the hands of a kid who played a 7-on-7 tournament in pajama pants and sunglasses. Part of me thinks he has moxie, but another part of me thinks he has the mentality of a 13-year old. Who knows
It was a 7 x 7 tournament…it was invented for 13 year olds and drugged up middle aged men.

Meh, thought he showed great pocket awareness for a true freshman, not to mention athleticism and obvious arm talent.
I didnt expect more then what he gave us....i thought he played like a freshman in his first action after being a star in HS..he did show good awareness, and athleticism..by he did have happy feet as expected...he is.not as ready as our fans wanna believe..i just hope he doesnt flame out like Bailey.

I haven’t seen this brought up, but if you believe Nico is ready to play, then there is no need to waste him against Georgia. One thing no one has mentioned is that when we play Florida early next year, they will have no idea how to read Nico since there is no meaningful game film on him. Let the kid start a winnable game instead of against the team that is best equipped to expose his weaknesses.

If you want a perfect example , just look at the Houston Texans after they lost Massage King Deshaun Watson to Cleveland. They tried back up QB David Mills for all of last season and hardly won a single game.. Just compare him to CJ Stroud who leads the NFL in his rookie season. Some QB''s have " it" and some don't. Biggest problem with Milton IMHO is he fires a rocket on every pass....go look at how CJ Stroud lays a perfect catchable ball right in the hands, much like Hooker did all last year.
Using the NFL isn't a perfect example

Yep, dude will have more pressure than any other QB to come in here by a long shot. I remember JG was the top dual threat and the excitement was out the roof until they ran him out of here on a rail.
The excitement for JG was gone long before anyone ran him out of here on a rail.

Nico better win the Heisman, the way many of you have him a sure thing. I hope he does well, but nobody knows
Why? Winning the Hiesman is nothing.
It’s a joke of an award.

Many great QB’s didn’t win the Hiesman.

He was seen as the #1 or 2 Qb in his class by everyone!
He should be expected to be a sure thing

QB was not the issue at Missouri!
No, but Milton's limitations are this team's limitations. He's an okay QB and UT is an okay team. You wanna shoot for the stars, you need a high flyin' QB. With Milton at QB, it's like a fighter in the ring with one hand tied behind his back.

No one really knows until the bullets are live. Having said that, a guy who coached Bryce Young and Nico said Nico is just a bigger version of Young. Bama wanted Nico in the worst way along with every other program in the country. Something tells me they all can't be so wrong.

Milton pretty much has to rely on his recievers to get wide open. Does not know how to throw someone open or improvise when a play breaks down. Puts a ton of pressure on the playcallers because they know this and are less likely to call plays that take time to develop. With Hooker they could call anything just about and look like geniuses because he would find a way to keep the ball moving. If the line broke down he knew when to scramble. Milton will stare his first target down and if that isnt there its too late. Tremendous talent, just isnt the gamer Hooker was.
To add, Hooker also ran tougher than Milton. There have been numerous times this year that Milton had to just beat 1 guy and would have 5-10 more yards at a minimum, but he goes down after the smallest bump.

My fear, because of lack of meaningful playing time this year, it will take him at least half of next season to get going, and if he does we will only have him for 1 yr and a half, because of wasted first year.

Obviously Nico and Milton don't deserve the Heisman. I believe Hinton Hooker should have been at least been considered.

I cannot wait for Nico but he won’t win the Heisman.
Nobody knows, I just want him to be a good quarterback and leader. I think he will do both of them things well. Having this year to learn and get stronger will help. No doubt he may have a few growing pains early. But I thought he looked good against UConn in a limited amount of time. He made a real good throw sprinting out where he threw it against his body. A throw Milton struggles mighty with. I fell very confident saying he will be a upgrade very quickly once on the field.

I have long hoped that a Vol will win the heisman and turn it down. If Peyton wasn’t awarded, then it isn’t a worthy trophy.

I disagree - It is one of the important positions for the offense. But it does no good to have the best QB in the country if the other team is scoring at will against your defense. Case in point the South Carolina game last year and Bama too where we had to outscore a team we could not stop from scoring.

It will not matter how good Nico is or isn't if the defense doesn't improve.
It is the most important single position. That shouldn’t even be debatable. Yes, having a good defense is important. As is having a good line etc. But the teams success begins with great qb play. That’s why nfl teams routinely pay their qb up to 20% of the entire payroll.

If Milton is struggling in the first quarter I say put Nico in and see what happens. Georgia would not be ready for him like they will be for Milton. Nico escapes pressure better and can extend plays.
