Those dang pre-Madonnas are ruining the sport. Agreed! My opinion is you build a program from high school recruiting. Your NIL can pay everyone what there worth as they grow in the system. If an upperclassmen gets hurt or underachieves replace him with a portal player that way you can build a great culture. If you bring in these big headed premadonna Portal players that like showing off and talking about what they got from NIL then there's gonna be a bad culture....
I would agree with this 2 years ago. But now??Transfers do appear to be their main focus. That could be hard to sustain. The amount of talent in the portal will fluctuate from year to year. Talent coming from high school is more of a constant.
I disagree ... There will be exceptions to everything, but the portal will be mostly comprised of players like Tyler Baron, who were starters, but on mediocre to bad units, and only in the portal because their NFL Draft prospects were low .... and players like Brock Vandegriff, who couldn't win the starting job at their current schools.I would agree with this 2 years ago. But now??
Nope.
With the Transfer Portal you're ideally bringing in guys that have already proven they can play in college. That's huge compared to even the best blue chip HS players that haven't play college ball yet.
And there's always hundreds of Transfer Portal kids. And how many does Tennessee offer from HS?? 150 maybe every year?
It's a lot more even than people realize
3 1-score games to unranked teams. He easily could have been 7-5 with losses to Arkansas, auburn, tamu. Or 6-6 if he didn’t beat lsu on top of those. Let’s not forget he is still Kiffin and not saban/kirby/etc.This will be two years running that Kiffin has beaten just about everyone in the Portal. And they are 10-2 . No reason He can't sustain it.
Kiffin's high school recruiting is okay. Not great, but okay. Some posters are getting carried away with what he is doing in the portal. Before we crown Kiffin the recruiting champion of the world.
Can we acknowledge that they'll still not have a top 8 roster in the SEC? And certainly won't have a >50% blue chip ratio.
Maybe Kiffin makes the playoffs by running the SEC equivalent of the island of misfit toys, but I do think people are overreacting a bit.
Why do we care what Lane Kiffin is doing? Well if we could kill it in the portal like he is doing we would have a great defense next year. Lane is killing it and making fun of UT while he does it. I think this is a great question that someone needs to be asking CJH!!!If you are a Vol fan why do you care what Lame Kitten is doing? He learned how to cheat at recruiting from the best in the business. Shouldn’t surprise you. Also, it’s obvious the Ole Miss fans and collective are serious about wanting to win unlike our fan base and Spyre.
I think everybody needs to grade portal success after the first year. On field production can ALMOST be expected year 1, unlike with the HS guys. In fact coaches should be graded on their analysis skills from all the secondary markets by the production, not guesswork by some of the services. It will all be out there to see day 1. No-brainer or off the map guys either produce or they don't and should be graded equally. Is there really a need for a separate process for juco vs 4 year portal? just make a transfer a transfer and be done. Especially if this second transfer deal holds up. 2 to 4 or 4-2-4 who cares. Some value to those who produce in the second year, but no guarantee they will still be there a second year in the free for all if the second transfer thing sticks and all divisions are feeding the monster.Kiffin's high school recruiting is okay. Not great, but okay. Some posters are getting carried away with what he is doing in the portal.
Kitten is a clown. Him making fun of UT while doing good in the portal is childish and shows how immature he is. Who cares if he is killing it in the portal? He isn’t us. We have a real coach. Not Joey Freshwater. Why do we care what Lane Kiffin is doing? Well if we could kill it in the portal like he is doing we would have a great defense next year. Lane is killing it and making fun of UT while he does it. I think this is a great question that someone needs to be asking CJH!!!
That’s not the only difference. They get UGA and OU at home, we play both on the road. NC State will be a top 25 team when we play them. Wake will not be anywhere close. If Kiffin is behind the Ole Miss OOC scheduling then he’s smart as they play some Power 5 but it’s lower teams so they get a win while not appearing to schedule poorly. They play 6 of the 8 sec teams we play…only difference is they get Lsu and South Carolina and we have Bama along with Vandy…will be interesting to see where each of us finishes with nearly identical schedules
What Kiffin has done in portal recruiting is discussion worthy. It’s no where near trolling? It’s the biggest story in CFB this week.Averages less than 40 messages a year. Posting from Mississippi, about ole miss. Posting about it in every forum/thread. If he’s not a troll he better be careful before he gets labeled one.
No ... there is a big difference in a total package worth $8 million ... and $8 million a year, like you said. Has nothing to do with semantics. You were just incorrectly citing the reporting.Semantics. $8 M is a stretch either way. Probably nowhere near that in reality.
How is Kiffin getting all the best portal recruits????? Looks like Walter Nolan is projected is to go there. They snagged Baron and Madonald from us and the #1 defensive end from Florida. Like the guy or not he can recruit not to mention the WR from South Carolina.... Makes our commits look weak compaired to the Rebs. Deep pockets in Oxford I guess....
lol. Kiffin signed a contract extension this afternoon. laughing with you...not at you.Kiffin is just playing with the cards he was dealt. One, he’s at Ole Miss. He’s never going to out recruit Bama or Georgia or even Tenn. They have dominated the hs recruiting forever, even before Saban and Smart. Two, with nil and the transfer portal the world of college sports is forever changed. Rather than fight it he is using it.
As for how he’s doing it, he’s selling 10-2, whereas we are selling 8-4. It may be that he’s both selling the transfers on the fact that their draft stock looks better on a 10-2 team and he’s selling himself to his next school, since he clearly doesn’t want to be at Ole Miss, and is going all in for the 2024 season. ( sorry for that last sentence)
I believe relying on the portal could be sustainable if handled properly, but I don’t believe Kiffin is thinking long term here.
Say what you will about Kiffin as a person, but he’s a good coach and a very innovative thinker.
