Question on how Vol fans feel about "beating Florida"

Yeah, I suppose. I just like the idea that we could become the cinderella story of 2013.
Happens to someone every year right? Vols play in the wrong conference for that i'm afraid. Depth, balance and defense rule the day in this league.. They could beat a team or two they have no business beating though. I'd take that..

I feel like it's what generation you are. For example, my dad thinks the biggest rivalry is Alabama (60's and 70's the Bear), me, I think it's Florida (90's and 00's Spurrier/Urban), my boys, well they think it's Vanderquilt ( Franklin). So, I really think its whatever generation you grew/grow up with. BTW............Vanderquilt is my boys nickname for them. :)

First of all, I don't don't hate any team. They're just a bunch of guys playing to win like they're suppose to.

Who do I want to beat most? Every team we play. Why take prisoners?

Since the SEC is so prominent in BCS ranking, I do have a preference for beating SEC teams. Because if you beat them, you can beat anybody. So as far as I'm concerned, Bama and Florida are just seasonal annoyances. They have their day today but will get their azzes kicked when the cycle swings back our way.

It seems that when we have more talent than Florida and we are playing well enough to win, we lose confidence.

Sorta like someone walking a high wire, then they pause and look down. Then they are struck with doudt.

It is the same way in the Florida games that we play. Think for a moment of all of the times that we have had them beat, then we fell apart.

One season, at the Swamp, we had them beat at 1/2 time by 21 points and then they beat us 62 - 35.

One season, we had them beat, and Colquitt threw a pass, rather than punt the ball. I missed the game because I was in Iraq, but I heard about it.

Last season, we had them beat, then Sal messed up things and we let a scat back have the game of his career.

In 1999, we had them beat. End of regulation in the 4th quarter, Jamaal runs to the wrong hole and doesn't get in the end zone, and they end up winning, as time expires.

You got like one of those right, which I'm counting 1995 as correct.

The other 3, not so much. The Colquitt game you're referring to was 2005; in no point in the game did we "have them beat".

Last year, again it's hard to say we had them beat when there was a quarter and a half to go. We certainly had a chance to seize control of the game, but we were only up 7 when the big run happened.

And 1999, I have no clue what game you were watching. We lost by 2, we had to go for it on 4th down and Lewis was stuffed at the line trying to pick up about 3 yards, not going to the endzone. And it wasn't as time expired. We were trying to get into FG position. And I'm not sure what you mean by Lewis went into the wrong hole, the play was pretty much sniffed out by UF, it was basically a pretty terrible play call.

I have a great friend on this very board who just told me the following:

"There is not more focus on Florida than any other team we play in the SEC."

I told him he was nuts, that Vol fans would rather beat Florida more than any other team save Alabama.

Who is right?

I think from a trying to win the conference perspective Tennessee would rather beat Florida since they are both in the East. From a personal standpoint and the history of the game with Bama, it's the best feeling in the world to beat Bama. Haven't beat either team in awhile. I'm hoping Butch is the right coach to get us back in the mix.

A fan of this my 43 third year right now i would rather to beat you the Gators than anybody else including bama, but for long term bama, i hate bummer and that little fffffffffffing nick, i wont to knock that little grin of his face, i hate bummer, more i think about it even now i would rather to kick nicks azz instead of the Gators but you the gators will run a close second.:banghead2:

I've got a fever...and the only prescription is more TerryPedigo!

When UT and Bama split into separate divisions, that opened the door for Florida game to be most important. Florida is 1st SEC game of year and sets the stage for rest of season. Beat all SEC East teams and lose to Bama still puts UT in title game so....
Florida most important due to Championship game implications.
Another thing, If I am ranking best, most classy, most respectful SEC fans that understand traditions & what rivalry means....I put Kentucky #1, Bama #2, fill in the rest and Florida #14.

It is bama by a long shot and then FL for me simply because while I despise both the tide and the gators damn near equally, I only extend my hatred to one entire state. You guessed it, Alabama.

I love it in Florida.

Absolutely. Florida is definitely the more important game of the two. UGA and SCjr are more important than Alabama too. Alabama is still the biggest rival.

The team I'm focused on beating is AP. Changes week to week as the season goes. But I'm a woman, we change our minds often.
That makes since now... They like me at night in the club and not the next morning... Lol. All about changing the minds.

It is simply amazing that our fans dont understand the importance of those games. A win over Bama is great, its fun, it feels good. But in the end it does not mean as much as a win over a division foe. And the converse is also true - a loss to a division foe is twice as bad as a loss to Bama. A loss to Bama is one loss. A loss to a division foe means you have to win 2 more than them to over take them in the standings. Considering there are only 8 games to do it and one is a loss to a division foe, you only have 5 games to overtake them and have to pray to God they lose somewhere down the road.
