Quit with the "we don't have talent and are slow" crud

Unless you are Gus Mahlzan. Then you can undo 0-8 in the SEC. Yes, I know, the Auburn roster was a much better situation.

The LB situation is atrocious. The D-line however is a mystery. There is a lot of 4 star talent out there, and they are getting smashed.

Malzahn also recruited all of these players into his system. Chizik just got to coach them for a year while Malzhan was at ASU

98% of all these kids got other scholarship offers to other D-1 schools, so they are that talented and other schools saw D-1 potential in them. The problem isn't so much the lack of talent and speed (which is definitely a challenge, but not an excuse everytime), its the lack of mentoring and coaching to develop basic skills. There were missed lanes, false starts, horrible angles, horrible tackling, lack of defensive vision and defensive common sense (QB spy after he gashed us for what seemed to be 200yds in the first half) ZERO, and I mean ZERO defensive adjustments at half-time--- see opening kickoff and QB runs the rest of the game. This team lacks COACHING. All this and we are 3/4 through the season.

We don't have talent and we are slow!...the announcers even said there is an obvious difference in team speed.

So what is it exactly? Some say the players suck, and some say the coaching sucks. Last year it was Dooley so we fired his arse yet only to find that everybody still complains when we continue to lose. I guess we might as well stop playing football at UT.

Maybe it's the curse of spoiled ass fans crying about change & getting what they ask for.

Before I say anything else, what would you have done sir?

For starters I know their QB is one of the best runners in the country and would have had a nickel or LB spying and following him every play- that would have probably cut 14pts instantly. If I didn't do it at the beginning of the game, I sure as hell would have done it the second half, stacked the box and dared them to throw. Next would be to kick out of bounds/thru the endzone, another halftime adjustment. I could keep going if you want me to?

Really, cause im pretty sure most the people on here thought this would be a close game.

Is it because Auburn has a bunch of 5 star players? Or is it because they have a great coach?

It's because they have a very fast team with one of the best offensive minds in the game.

Doesn't help that our safeties are slow, our linebackers are slow, and our DL are slow.

Marshall is faster than any LB or NB on the team

Also Auburn recruiting classes of the last couple of years have been head and shoulders above ours. Chizik firing was justify given how much talent they had.

I still don't understand why so many on here think the Vols have any SEC talent. At least Dobbs may become a decent QB given time, he's not afraid to run. Got to work like heck to beat Vandy.
Give it time, it will get better!

We did spy at times and they would just go block him or would just outrun him to the corner.
People keep talking about angles but when you are so damn slow against speed, your angles are always going to suck.

I agree, but they are losing to better teams. If they could play UF and UGA now maybe things would be different in the win loss category, MAYBE.
I too wish they were more entertaining to watch, but hey I'll wait and hope for better. :hi:

Middle school coaches teach stuff like this.

Do you really think our staff, no matter how bad, doesnt teach this.

I for one think its the players tbh

Our front 4 doing nothing against the run all day must mean Stripling sucks now too. Nevermind hes a great coach. I'm sure he teaches jaques and other de's how to get shoved around.

I wouldn't have agreed with this post until I saw this team play live today. The defensive ends crashed down the entire game. We ran zero run blitzs to make Auburn beat us with the pass. We did nothing to adjust to their attacks on the perimeter.
The special teams were a joke. We have people playing on special teams who seem to be afraid to hit.
We have players watching instead of blocking for our running backs.
If we aren't recruiting a QB we are in trouble, because Josh Dobbs has a weak arm.
It is much worse in person than it is on TV.
Bad offensive play calling. No adjustments made ever. I was really disappointed with the effort this team put forth.
Depth may be an issue, but even bad athletes who are trying can be physical, and make a freaking tackle.
If I were Butch Jones this team would run 50 miles in the next week, and it would start tonight. These guys would never want to lose another game. Until this team shows some guts, no coach will be successful here.
These players should be embarrassed to go to class on Monday.

We have only a first team on the d side of the ball, with a bunch of freshmen playing at a high level against some pretty darn good teams that have already had great talent in place. Being that said week in and week out we have played 7 schools ranked from 11 to 1 in the country and 1 and 2 on the road. I don't think with timing we had at these teams Alabama would not have a couple of losses. Tough schedule for a bunch that were playing on Friday nights. I believe coach Jones is the man he can't loose contain and take bad angles! Hard to stomach but given this schedule and progress of Dobbs we will be back!

While I concede that we don't have SEC speed on defense, it wasn't speed that was our downfall today for the most part. Our angles, holding our lanes, and over pursuit at the line of scrimmage was the problems. More than anything special teams sunk us today. In my opinion, coaching is a huge issue on defense right now.
