I wouldn't have agreed with this post until I saw this team play live today. The defensive ends crashed down the entire game. We ran zero run blitzs to make Auburn beat us with the pass. We did nothing to adjust to their attacks on the perimeter.
The special teams were a joke. We have people playing on special teams who seem to be afraid to hit.
We have players watching instead of blocking for our running backs.
If we aren't recruiting a QB we are in trouble, because Josh Dobbs has a weak arm.
It is much worse in person than it is on TV.
Bad offensive play calling. No adjustments made ever. I was really disappointed with the effort this team put forth.
Depth may be an issue, but even bad athletes who are trying can be physical, and make a freaking tackle.
If I were Butch Jones this team would run 50 miles in the next week, and it would start tonight. These guys would never want to lose another game. Until this team shows some guts, no coach will be successful here.
These players should be embarrassed to go to class on Monday.
Agreed but Butch Jones has only been coaching them less than a year. You can't undo what Dooley did in one season.
We do have talent just not sec talent and sec speed. We just need more time for recruits to get in. I think with the people that jones brought in last year and this incoming year we will be a little better.
98% of all these kids got other scholarship offers to other D-1 schools, so they are that talented and other schools saw D-1 potential in them. The problem isn't so much the lack of talent and speed (which is definitely a challenge, but not an excuse everytime), its the lack of mentoring and coaching to develop basic skills. There were missed lanes, false starts, horrible angles, horrible tackling, lack of defensive vision and defensive common sense (QB spy after he gashed us for what seemed to be 200yds in the first half) ZERO, and I mean ZERO defensive adjustments at half-time--- see opening kickoff and QB runs the rest of the game. This team lacks COACHING. All this and we are 3/4 through the season.
Even slow guys can hit someone. Slow guys can block a man in front of him. A slow guy can attempt to set an edge. A coach can attempt their slow players in schemes that relatively look like they might work. A coach can call blitzes and attempt to apply pressure against a run team. A coach can load the box, and also make sure that their team isn't out flanked or outnumbered on the perimeter before the ball is snapped. I am so sick of excuses.
98% no. Not all were recruited by Sec schools. Do your research. You will find of the last 3 classes only bout 33 to 40% were recruited and that all that landed here would have landed at several schools not one. If they did land at several SeC schools some a few may have started some May have departed and some would have been buried on the depth chart. Our OL would have done well split up in the SEC but here the jobs were never threatened where at other schools there would have been little margin for error or you get buried on the depth chart.
Most of our talent is young... and this team speed argument is C-R-A-P.... You're gonna tll me that the reason we can't cover a receiver or close the gap on a QB is because of team speed? Our players are just as fast or 1/10 of a second slower than the competition. It's a difference but not the difference between the Georgia/SCe game and the last 3 weeks.
I'm sorry but simply getting more talent won't resolve the coaching issues that have been revealed on the D staff in the last 3 games. Those guys need to get their acts together.
