All the bottled water and toilet paper was out at the Food City yesterday, and the timing of the strike might simply be coincidental.

A LOT of people are buying it to donate to areas affected by the flooding.

I did just run to Walmart for windshield wipers, and snacks fir our trip, and shelves are getting empty.

Panic buying. When My dad was a supply officer on his ship, there was a rumor they were going to run out of toothpaste, they had plenty of toothpaste. But everyone bought some, and sure enough they sold out, they had rules on hording and sure enough they'd find people with like 30 tubes in their lockers, reselling it......at some point strike will effect the shelves, but currently this is just panic/hording.

It's also easier to buy some extra paper products, then build up an actual emergency supply, makes em feel like they done something.

I saw people yesterday with 2 carts full of stuff. Not for hurricane, because one would have meat, milk, etc. Every store here now is out of milk, eggs, and toilet paper. They're hoarding stuff that will not be effected by the strike 🤣

I think you are vastly underestimating the number of people who are stepping in and purchasing things for friends and loved ones in the affected areas, joe.

Like i said, I'd like to believe that. However, I know people who are just doing it, Tiffany had someone call her yesterday and tell us we better. Sure, some are donations for the hurricane, but you can't send meat, eggs, milk, cheese, etc. The shelves look like they did during covid, I assure you, many are just hoarding. They're even commenting about it on the county Facebook page, telling people to mind their business, cayse some are fussing about it 😅

What about people who have relatives they have taken into their homes and are feeding them?

Yeah we get alot of stuff from China, But TP, Milk, and eggs isn't one of those things. Will be more like dry goods, electronics, chips, etc that are not shipped by air. Fruit could take a hit, but my guess much of it will come through mexico. Now the eastern coastal cities will be hurt, as a ton of domnestically produced food etc moves through coastal waterways.

List I saw... of effected products.

  1. Perishable goods: Fresh produce like bananas, cherries, and other fruits and vegetables may see immediate effects due to the limited storage capacity at grocery stores.
  2. Shoes: As part of the broader supply chain, shoes may be delayed or experience shortages.
  3. Car parts: The strike may disrupt auto shipments, potentially leading to delays or shortages of car parts.
  4. Alcohol: Imported beverages, including wine and spirits, may be affected by the strike.
  5. Food products: Over 100 categories of food, including processed and packaged goods, may experience delays or shortages due to the shutdown of East and Gulf coast ports.
  6. Toys: Containers carrying toys may be delayed or experience shortages, potentially affecting holiday season supplies.
  7. Medicine: Certain medications and pharmaceuticals may be impacted by the strike, although the extent of the disruption is unclear.
  8. Oil and gas: While oil and gas terminals have their own work crews and will not be directly affected, the strike may still have indirect impacts on the energy sector.
Number 7 is most concerning, because we do get a ton of our pharma from overseas production. Also a ton of DME. Costs for medical care could go up or not depending on how long the strike, and how much has been stockpiled.

I'm sure that happens, but I'm in Walmart 3-4 times a week. The only times it's like this, is snow in the forecast, covid, and now.

Normally I wouldn't have an issue with them wanting a raise. 77% though, that's a bit much, especially when they're already making between 100-300k a year. The higher they said is from overtime, but it's not like they're making minimum wage.

They perform a valuable task but their skill aint worth that. The issue with unions is you cant let the market dictate their value since you cant fire people on strikes....

Thank you for acknowledging my greatness, but I don’t think mikey is going to get it, no matter how you phrase it.
I knew you'd pick up on that and I almost didn't post it for that reason alone, but you know better.
