Rank Bruce Pearl as a basketball coach.

Cal took a team with two lottery picks, and four other legitimate NBA players to the elite eight. Is anyone else besides me undecided on his ability to win the whole taco?

There were three if not four lottery picks on that team. That said, he was a couple free throws away from winning it two years ago...

Not really. He's been to the elite eight a bunch of time and one final. When you have this many one and done players, it's basically all or nothing, but UK will reload. They won't be as good next year, but they won't lose everyone next year either. Cal may underachieve, but he even got UMASS to the Final Four. Not really an easy task.

You can poke fun at his coaching ability, and you can call him a cheater, and I'm not saying you're wrong, but if he continues to bang on the door as often as he has been, he'll break it down sooner or later.

You mean being able to BUY big name players don't you. Calipari can't get big name players any other way. Every program he has ever been at has ended up on probation. Kentucky will be no different in the end. Heck Calipari could probably get probation somehow for an NBA team.

I am talking about bottom line results. If you have facts that show him buying players, you should really turn those over to the NCAA.

If he had won it in '08, it would
have been stripped. Do you think people would be speaking so highly of his coaching ability if the NCAA would erased memphis' only national title?

Whoever is funnelling these players to Cal and setting up these stand-ins for SAT's needs to realize that they are ruining a man's (and a school's) reputation.

You don't know that for sure.

You don't know that for sure.

I'm also not sure that we had the best football team in 1998 since tulane also went undefeated, but I'm fairly convinced.

Even if it weren't stripped, he still won it with an ineligible player. To some people that's important.

Nah. People love arguing with zero fact and slinging mud that has no base to it. "Well, I can't beat you with logic, let me say something completely childish and stupid about cheating or paying players".

When does Kansas have to turn over their title for playing Darrell Arthur? Oh, that's right. History is written by the victors.

I don't know if Memphis has the same pull that ku does, and even if that weren't the case I think the NCAA has a hard on for cal.

They can't get the man so they punish the school. I think Memphis actually had a solid appeal but the AA said too bad so sad.

That's Hat's point, man. He's saying if Memphis had won that game against KU, nothing would have happened to them.

I am pretty sure no money is changing hands. And I don't think cal cheats

It's funny to me that nobody mentions what Cal did at UMASS especially when it's likely the best job he's ever done.

Here, I'll beat you with logic.

Cal couldn't even get to the FF with 5 1st round picks on the roster.

And since when did you start thinking Cal wasn't a cheater? Let me guess.... About a year ago?

Kentucky and Bama are very much the same in that they were starving for a proven winner so they lowered their standards a tad.

Bama gave Saban $4MM a year without a buyout, while UK took the best coach with the worst reputation. Everybody needs a slump buster... might be the best you ever had, but that rash she leaves behind itches like hell!

I am seriously hoping Cal keeps his nose clean at UK. The games will be EPIC for years to come.

That statement makes no sense whatsoever, nor does it contain logic for you to "beat" me with. If you weren't stumbling blindly through this life, you would notice that I have stated many times that I DO think Cal has some wrong doings and a shady past. Put down the orange push up and pay attention.

Fact is, you couldn't beat me with army.

The funniest thing is that memphis fans think pastner is clean when he was Cal's right hand man. Hes probably pulling the same schemes

bruce pearl is a good bench coach and great motivator ,and coaches well in underdog rolls, does not seem to be to good of a recruiter he has laned 2 5 star players, one in scotty hopson who has underachieved, who people thought would be a 2 year and go to nba but unless he improves scotty will have to play over seas, has landed his biggest recruit yet in tobias harris who is a top 5 recruit, but doesnt seem to keep in touch with recruits after he gets a verbal commit in 2008 number 4 player in country and probally the best pg prospect, but then a few months later he decommits, and now he supposedly has us back on list but when there are 4 on his list and there all medium except the vols he has us as low.are there too much ground to make up,probally.and there was also antony wroten jr a top 10 player and a great sized pg who if he hadnt been hurt for an intire season he would probally be number 1 player in 2011 recruiting was committed to vols but after several months he then decommitts.but we are back on his list but with 2 pg committed for 2011 i see no way for us to land him,he has commitmeents from top 25 playeer and 5 star pg kevin ware.and also 4 star chris jones from melrose who i thought we recruited just to try and get his teamate adonis thomas who is a top 10 player in 2011 but after going and watching the tennessee boys state tournament and i think that chris jones is deserving of offer and scolly even without thomas, jones outplayed every pg in the tournament and outplayed counterpart joe jackson who signed with memphis over vols.even without ware the pg position is going to be in the best hands since pearl arrived.so if he can keep harris around for atleast 3 years, and possibly get adonis thomas and get a center between 6,8 and 6,11 who can start from day one,and average 14 pts and 9 rebs and be a great defender 2 or 3 blocks a game.and win ncaa tournament in 2011 and 12 then we may get like ky,kansas, nort carolina, memphis who get 3 or 4 ,5 star player a number 1 ranked recruiting class and become a perinnal top 5 to 10 team

Antony Wroten Jr. never committed to the vols, but nice try!

I wouldn't trade Bruce Pearl for ANY other coach out there. Coach Pearl is the perfect fit for Tennessee. He is not just "serviceable."

Coach Pearl is a GREAT recruiter who stays within the rules. Some coaches can load their rosters with more talent (ala Calipari at Kentucky) but UT fans don't have to wonder what negative repercussions might be in the offing because of something underhanded Coach Pearl did. (Kentucky didn't get any deeper into the NCAA tournament than the Vols did, btw.) Our mens team is a perrenial championship contender and how many times has the prospect of having to vacate victories crossed the mind of a Vols fan?

Coach Pearl has proven his integrity with the way he has metted out discipline, as well. If he was even the least bit mercenary in his pursuit of championships, this years Vols squad would have consisted of Ramar Smith, Duke Crews, Josh Tabb, Tyler Smith, Wayne Chism, JP Prince, Cam Tatum, Brian Williams and a kid named Passley. Merely on talent, that's an SEC championship and a final four. However, the "whole" of that line-up would have been much less than the sum of its parts. As a Vol fan of 38 years, I am more proud of this years Elite 8 run, with the roster as it turned out to be, than i would have been if the Vols had made the Final Four with a squad that included Ramar Smith, Duke Crews or Tyler Smith. Vol fans can trust Coach Pearl to put talent AND honor on the court, at the same time. In that respect, he is on par with Dukes Coach K, in my opinion. (Who is better than that?)

Bruce Pearl is a GREAT motivator. In his time at Tennessee, coaching somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 games, I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of Vols games I watched where i didn't think the team was laying it on the line. If you've ever coached young men at anything, you would know how astounding it is to get maximum effort on such a consistent basis. When you go see the UT men play, you might not know the outcome beforehand, but you do know that the Big Orange will "show up" and will be going for their opponents throat from tip to buzzer.

Bruce Pearl is a GREAT coach on the floor. In the 5 years he has been here, I haven't seen him get outcoached once. Not once. UT's players have failed to execute, at times, but Bruce Pearl hasn't been outcoached. On the contrary, Coach Pearl has outcoached many of the bigger names in coaching circles. if you don't believeme, just ask Huggins at WVU...watch any matchup between the Vols and a super-talented John Calipari squad... Ask Billy Donovan. Ask the kid at Butler who put his team out of the tournament 2 years ago.

You don't outcoach Bob Huggins. You don't outcoach Bobby Knight. You don't outcoach Mike Krysewski. And Bruce Pearl doesn't get outcoached, either. UT's opponent might come out on top once in awhile, but it won't be because the opponent has a better coach.

Really? Did you really just compare Bruce Pearl to Coach K? What has happened to this board...
