Rank Bruce Pearl as a basketball coach.

Why the insults? This is a discussion about Calipari's record, not your family's good name. Is this how to interact with people?

Back to my point, if you take Derek Rose off of the roster, you can add any number of regular season losses to the schedule: @UAB, USC, Houston, Southern Miss etc.

It's all hypothetical, but it's my opinion that they would have been a 5 or 3 seed at best without Rose on the squad. And even if they were a 1 seed, Mississippi State would have beaten them in the round of 32.

I wasn't insulting you. I thought you were evading the point. I don't think it's legitimate to say that a team that I'm fairly certain was a #1 seed the previous year, made an elite eight, and returned every major contributor was incapable of making it one round further the next year without Derek Rose.

It is hypothetical. However, you said the wouldn't have come close to a FF without Rose, yet they were in the EE the year before with basically the same roster. Last I checked, the EE is pretty close to the FF.

All I was saying was that without Derek Rose on the 2007-08 squad, even if they were a one seed, they would have lost in the round of 32 to Mississippi State. Thus, not coming close to the final four.

I probably should have clarified.

Again, hypothetical. But thanks for clarifying.

you should check the thread title

What about it?

Was there not a discussion about Calipari's record going on in this thread? Or are you hung up on semantics...? If you are, then you are absolutely correct, Calipari's record has nothing to do with ranking Bruce Pearl as a basketball coach.

You see, here's what happened in the thread: Some posters started comparing Bruce Pearl and John Calipari, one poster stated that the fact that Cal has had two final fours dismissed has no bearing on his coaching ability, from that point on, it became a discussion of Cal's effectiveness as a coach with two bad situations in his past.

I apologize for getting off-topic and confusing you.

I guess you are not familiar with the term "basically."

Dude, admit you were wrong.

How is losing your second leading scorer "basically the same team"?

How is losing your best three point shooter and second leading scorer "returning ever major contributor"?

:eek:lol: I have no argument?

You're the genius that said Memphis returned basically the same team when they didn't even return their second leading scorer.

What more of an argument do I know?

Sorry I hurt your feelings bro. Im just stating the facts

Memphis did not return every major contributor and it wasn't the same roster.

I don't know why you're so hurt over me pointing this out? Super defensive this morning.

I think the lesson for today is that you better have your facts completely in order before you make any hypothetical statements on this board, by gawd.

I'm not wrong. I'm also not playing your little game.

Just wanted to add this...
The 2007-2008 roster returned ALL 5 starters from the previous year and 9 total (Anderson, Dozier, Dorsey, Douglas-Roberts, and Kemp were the starters for almost every game in '06-'07.) Thus, I said it was "basically" the same team and not "exactly" the same team.

You just wont stop will you?

Someone said "Every major contributor returned"

I ask you a simple question:

Is the second leading scorer on a team a "major contributor?"

Wow. So how do you define basically? Because the American Heritage Dictionary defines it as "For the most part; chiefly." Meaning tanker is correct.
