Rank the 5 best coaches in the SEC

Excluding Kiffin because I can't rate him fairly based on my Vols bias, and hope for the future:

Saban
Meyer
Petrino
Miles
Richt

Spurrier used to be good. His specialty was QB's, but he can't get better than decent productivity from anybody in the 6 years or so he's been at USCjr. He's lost a step.

Just out of curiosity, what is yalls reasoning in putting Saban 1st? He's between 1-2 no doubt about that. Bama has been a damn good team since he took over, but Florida has as well since Urban took over from the Zook years. In Urban's tenure, he's won 2 national titles (on the verge of winning a 3rd), 2 SEC titles (on the verge of winning a third), coached a Heisman Trophy winner (still in the running to win a second and imo won't).

Saban has resurrected a down LSU program and won a National Title and SEC title, and has led Bama to 2 undefeated regular seasons. Bama lost their bowl game last season.

For those that have posted, please put your reasoning behind why Saban, or Meyer, or Kiffin deserves the number 1 spot.

By the way, Here is my top 5, and I'm looking at overall record as SEC head coaches.

1) Urban Meyer. What he's done so far is amazing by any standards. 2 BCS and 2 SEC titles. See my comments above.

2) Nick Saban. See my comments above.

3) Les Miles. I;m going to get hell for this, but I'm sticking with it. He won a national title with Saban's players, but he still won.

4) Houston Nutt - Led Arkansas to winning seasons and an SEC title appearance. Ressurected (somewhat) a struggling Ole Miss program.

5) Steve Spurrier. I'm, including his Florida record here as well. He's faded somewhat, but has shown signs of brilliance lately.

Receiving votes:
Mark Richt, Kiffin, Chizik

Reason I left Kiffin and Chizik off my list is because they haven't coached but one year. Kiffin did an outstanding job, IMO, and will prove to be on this list shortly. It's hard to judge them now because they only coached 12 games thus far.

1) Meyer.

Yes maybe Brooks wasnt the best choice but i dont see a better one yet, I grew up a Tennessee fan, I have a father , grandfather, uncles all graduated from UT so I know a little thing about big orange football, It's just my opinion that kiffin lost 3 out of your guys 5 games. I believe he out schemed saban but having 2 field goals blocked is completely due to coaching. Thats just mine and most people outside of the vol nations opinion. Not trying to be an ass i just believe kiffin is the wrong guy for the job, he would be an excellent Offensive Coordinator I just dont think hes a great Head coach. I completely understand why you guys believe different

Saban
Meyer
Kiffin
Spurrier
Brooks

I put Spurrier 4th because that SC team could've easily folded after their loss at Neyland...but they played UF close, and destroyed Clemson. Brooks is a good coach, just seems to be one step behind every season. KY will keep getting better, but so will the rest of the SEC. But this season, they could've easily been 8-4 (Failed 2 pointer against SC), possibly 9-3 (overtime with us).

off the top of my head

1. Meyer
2. Saban
3. Spurrier

after that Miles (yes, Miles) and Richt would be tied at 4 and 5.

It's too early to vote on kiffin IMO. The staff has done well this year but it won't be fair to really evaluate hum until he has 3-4 years under his belt.....the same can be said for Petrino too

the gators have won several games because of Tebow, can't remember a game where I thought that about Meyer...now Meyer did get Tebow to FL.

I'm fine with all that but Miles. He's terrible.

he used his only option to try and kick a fg. How is not having a competent kicker a failure in coaching by Kiffin? Seriously I'm starting to think no one in the whole dang state of Alabama has a clue (esp the AU fans who have visited lately)

Fair enough. I think next season will be much like 2005/2006. We have an accurate passer waiting with John Brantley and we also have a stud that can play in the Tebow position in Jordan Reed.

I wouldn't say he's terrible, but he gambles way too much in games... and the way he threw his players and coaches under the bus was horrid. He's still won a fair amount, though.

Saban
Meyer
Monte
Petrino
Lane

Lane has a little more to prove before I put him above some of the other guys. Monte honestly might be the best coach of them all but he isn't a HC so it's impossible to rank him over Meyer or Saban. I give Saban the slight edge because he has coached at the Pro level and rebuilt two programs, he has won it all at the college level and is on the cusp of winning it all with another team in college.

Most people outside the volnation do not agree that Kiffin is the wrong person for the job. The only people who actually seem to believe that are the people who will be going up against Kiffin.

I really don't believe that you have watched the Vols play much this year from your comments.

He doesn't gamble. He's stupid. He just gets away with it because his team is so damn talented. That's because he's in a talent rich state that he does do a good job of keeping a lot of. The call to throw against Auburn in 2007 was so awful he should have been fired on site if it didn't work by a miracle. Gambling is taking a shot at the win instead of the tie. Stupid is passing up the easy shot at the win for the hard shot at the win. I'm not sure how he got this job in the first place.

I don't know about you guys, but I take Kiffin over any of these other guys in a heartbeat. No question. Meyer is lucky he is at the right place at the right time. Saban comes in at number 2 because I think he's a legit coach, but not better than ours.

From there, it doesn't really matter. Richt falls near the bottom below Johnson. Johnson gets the edge over Richt because he has made progress at Vandy since he took over the team. Granted, not this year. But Johnson has been relatively successful, in my opinion.

Explain why in the world you think Richt is a better coach than Petrino, Nutt, Miles, etc?

My opinion. Explain why he is not better than Petrino. Please ...with Miles or Nutt. Not even close with those two.

1 and 2 are whatever as they are both great coaches Personally I think Saban is better based on what he had to work with when he arrived. His team loses to ULM and puts up back to back undefeated regular seasons? Meyer never did that

But Miles, Nutt and the Spurrier of today? Come on, Nutt is horrible, Spurrier is way past being effective and Miles is...
