Rank the 5 best coaches in the SEC

I've heard this many times before, though. I've heard we won't win after Danny W graduates. We won't win after Grossman leaves. We won't win after Leak leaves. Tebow won't succeed in the SEC and will get battered and bruised. Tebow can't throw. We won't win without Tebow.

Only time will tell, though, right? Urban has succeeded at Bowling Green and Utah (although just 2 seasons at each). He's done a good jub of sustaining our program.

Not the SEC.....

Tebow is a once in a generation player. There's no doubt about that.

I will be glad to see the media machine find someone else to blow, good player, excellent leader, fierce competitor, adequate QB, adequate running ability.

I know he will be a legend but he will go down as the most over-hyped player off all-time, at least to me.

Meyer is a winner. For sure. He won everywhere, and he won instantly. He won't put together a 4 year span like this ever again. It isn't really realistic to expect that. But he is an outstanding coach.

And my fear is that many Gator fans will expect this and eventually drive Meyer away. It happened with Spurrier. I think with any fan base in this age, though, that when you win it's expected from here on out.

Right, and I was only pointing to those two teams in saying he's won without Tebow.

He will win in the SEC without Tebow, won a title with Leak, sustaining this type of success is beyond unrealistic.

Every program goes through cycles, Florida will not be the exception.

If we are talking about the coaches overall resumes and just head coaches I will go

1.Urban Meyer
2.Nick Saban
3.Steve Spurrier
4.Les Miles
5. Mark Richt

If we are talking about what they have accomplished for all coaches
1. Monte Kiffin
2. Urban
3. Saban
4. Steve
5. ED O

If we are talking about current head coaches and their ability to win in the future at their program I go

1. Saban
2. Meyer
3. Kiffin
4. Petrino
5. Mullen/Chizik

Just my :twocents:

Yeah, but they don't win that title without Tebow. He came up huge, in big games. They don't beat Tennessee in '06 without Tebow.

How can kiffin possibly make this list?

Potential.

Did Kiffin lose to Louisiana MONROE at home his first year?

My point, this 7-5 record has nothing to do with his coaching ability or lack thereof, but everything to do with the talent of this team, and the time it took to implement his system with the talent on this team.

Once he gets his guys in here....... you thank Saban turned your program around, wait till you see what CLK does. He'll actually win the big ones.... Heck, he almost did this year. Will bama be in meltdown mode if they lose the SECCG again this year and then go on to lose to B. State?

With the way Kiffin punked Saban when we played, I'm surprised he's not higher.

I have zero fumbles from the line of scrimmage and the least penalized team in the conference that says Kiffin knows what he's doing.

From talking to Gator fans, I think your right. I posed a question regarding the future of Florida and what they expected, they all seemed to think that this would never end, it was laughable.

Not only do you have to be very good, but you have to be lucky. You have to absorb everyone's best shot every time out, not an easy thing to do.

Everybody wants to beat Florida, for various reasons.

Impressive run that will come to an end soon.

+1000

I know all programs go through cycles, and I don't doubt one day we'll ahve our down cycle again. That said, We ran the 2 QB system in 06 and Tebow helped win a couple of big games. I mentioned earlier that we have a QB waiting in Jordan Reed that will take over the Tebow role next year while Johnny Brantley will weld the Leak role. We'll see how that works out for us.

and Tebow.... remember the 4th and 1 vs TN that put you guys in the position to take the lead? Without Tebow that year you don't beat UT and maybe lose a couple more, who knows...

Bingo. There are realistic fans like me out there, but once you're spoiled, you expect it. It happens outside football, all you have to do is look at anybody's wife.

Indeed but Leak was the starting QB, no matter how many 1 yard plunges or jump-passes Tim made, he was still a reserve.

I didn't say he wasn't a very good coach. I do however beleive that he fell into a perfect storm kind of thing at Florida. As bad as Zook was on the field, at least he recruited well. He didn't leave UF in the same mess Phil left us with. I admittedly don't really know how bad Shula left Bama in terms of talent. Having lived in Florida from 01-08 I do know a little about the Gators deal though. The smartest thing he did was keep Strong. IMHO Charlie Strong deserves more credit than Meyer for Floridas success. If he leaves Florida will have a tough time continuing the kind of dominance they have had recently.

Not really...Tebow still won several games himself that season.
