Ranking the SEC coaches...

Franklin, Mullen, and Miles are way screwed up out of order IMO.

Franklin is not the 5th best coach in the SEC, period, especailly after only two years. That's just laughable.

Richt #2, Miles should be #3, Spurrier #4. Sumlin #5 (and climbing). JMO.

I don't care where Coach Jones is ranked TODAY. I only care about where he stacks up after next season and beyond. Until he gets some W's against the other guys on this list (specifically the top 6 of 7), he will continue to be a target of doubt ... Tennessee is his chance to completely shut up the critics who keep saying that all he did at his previous stops was ride on the coat tails of Brian Kelly. Go Vols!

And James Franklin being anywhere higher than 9th or 10th is ridiculous. I guess it goes to show how important a rare win for Vandy over Tennessee (last season) really is for them. On the flip side, when Dooley beat Vandy it did nothing for his standing (rightfully so). Franklin is nothing but Lane Kiffin without the "flash." His mouth is almost as bad ... and pointless.

Franklin won 9 games in a season at vandy.

A true miracle

And, I'm not disagreeing with you, really. It is a true miracle to win that many at VU. :) But, he's got a LOT more to prove than glitz and glam and a fluffed up 9-win season to be called the 5th best in the conference, IMO.

Richt at #2 is hilarious.. Put James f at uga, and he would be light years ahead.. Can't stand the dude, but he seems to be a great coach/recruiter at a crappy school for football.

I dont like vandy are Franklin, but he can coach, till we beat them we need to keep our mouth shut and when the time comes pull out a can of whip azz and kick his azz and we can do all the talking we want to do, its hard to do the talking when they beat us down like they did.

Relative to history and the expectations at Vandy, Franklin has done more there than any coach that came before him. He deserves to be ranked pretty high despite his punk attitude. I mean, no other Vandy coach in the history of their program has more threads started about them on VN, and that's a fact.

But u gotta consider where these guys are coaching.. Recruiting at uga is automatic with all the talent in state and resources there.. Richt has waaaaay underachieved. Franklin and Mullen have overachieve so far considering the schools' histories.

Richt has consistently won 10+ games at UGA except for one or two seasons. If anything I'd switch Miles and Richt since Miles has NC rings.

True, but I still would put Mullen ahead of Franklin.

So that makes him the 5th best coach in the conference?

To play devil's advocate, how do you do a ranking at all?

Not everyone is dealt the same hand.

I believe if talent were equal across the board franklin would be able to field a team that could win more often than not against the rest of the coaches.

Yeah.

He's competitive now with a talent disadvantage

That's true, it's all opinion, that's why I wasn't really disagreeing with you. I just think to say he's the 5th best coach in the conference after just two years is a stretch. Since there's no set rules for these comparisons, I just like to take into consideration the time he's been at that school vs the time others have been at their schools and relate that to their overall records. Like I said, its all just opinion and off-season fluff to keep us interested until fall rolls around again. :peace2:

Just to play devil's advocate, smo, how can we complain about Jones being 11th when we have nothing to go on if we are going to knock Franklin because his success has happened for only 2 years?

I never complained about Jones's ranking; in fact, if anything, I agree with it. He's got no SEC experience yet, which is 2 less years than Franklin. So why should he be higher than 11?

Butch already beat the 5th ranked coach with a less talented team. I'd say he should be ranked higher than him.
