He's a 4*...... good get imo. It is Mamadou Ndiaye, right........?
Mamadou Ndiaye - Basketball Recruiting - Player Profiles - ESPN
Here's the deal, if it plays out like it sounds I get it. Stokes and McRae return, Yemu is transferring and Landry isn't coming in. Next years team would have ONE center and that's Jarnell Stokes who doesn't even want to play center. If Stokes gets in foul trouble who is playing the 5, or even to spell stokes? Maymon is 6'6", Reese would be the next tallest at 6'9", but we all know he's not a center. So...the staff HAD to add a big, and one that preferably could play right away and has the size to give SEC bigs some problems. Issue is, there aren't any decent high school bigs left out there, there were some JUCO bigs, but I don't know, maybe the staff liked what they saw.
This isn't a case where we are adding projects to a roster, you are (if it played out like it appears) trading Yemi for this guy basically....he's 6'11"-7' something we definitely don't have on our roster. I'm not thrilled about it, but I also realize that we desperately need size if Yemi is leaving...and if Yemi told the staff he was leaving and the staff thought Stokes may go...I'd say they were probably desperate.
JMO
Quinn says he has a committable offer...Lewis says its a done deal...and Rucker says he hasn't committed because he doesn't have a committable offer...love Knoxville media.
That just means we have a player on the floor who can't cut it in SEC play and becomes the obvious weakness to exploit. Who cares if he's tall if he is utterly useless as a player? I'd rather have an undersize guy in the 5 spot than some dude who's great height afforded him 3 whole blocked shots last year. For the season.
If Yemi is indeed transferring, I understand the scramble to find a serviceable post backup. That said, there are still a plethora of quality to average post players to choose from.
I agree with BTO, this guy simply takes the last two years of Yemi's scholly, plays Yemi's minutes which were limited at best and with JM and Davis next year might have gone down, and he doesn't effect the status of any future bigs they are recruiting. Plus who knows who they tried to get in on and it didn't work out.
Maybe they watched him in the games where he had double digit rebounding efforts.Exactly, they HAD to get someone, especially if they feel like Stokes may go...then they probably add another big, so they were desperately looking for one it seems.
That's my reservation is that there are other JUCO bigs out there who appear much better than Ndiaye (there's really nothing left of HS bigs)...however, JUCO can be weird sometimes and Ndiaye was evaluated by multiple Tennessee coaches over the last couple months, they must have seen something, hopefully it translates.

Exactly!
OR
Maybe Yemi leaves, we have an extra scholarship for '14 when Zo actually has some very highly rated players interested.
Yeah, I think I go with option #2 instead of wasting a scholarship on a guy that will never see the floor

Played sparingly. fouls a lot. Suspended for fighting on court.
Big big body. trading a yemi for a bigger yemi.
Who knows.
And play who at center next year if 1. stokes goes pro or 2. stokes returns, but say gets injured/foul trouble???
Maybe if scholarships were tight but at least 4 guys are leaving next year and possibly as many as 6 if UT has a great year. Martin will have plenty of scholarships for next year's class.
