Realistic expectations for next year

Realistically, we're looking at another 5-7 season. If our record is worse than that, then we made a terrible hire and will be rendered irrelevant for a decade or so, given Butch's ridiculous contract, unless some booster swoops in and saves the day. Thanks, Hart!

Don't worry, I've heard about Big Boosters doing this and that for many years and I've never seen any action from anyone of them to correct this train wreck called UT Football...so relax and learn to laugh and joke with a great since of humor

As long as there is improvement week to week and not making same stupid mistakes from game 1 to game 8. I'll be happy.

Agreed. As long as we can avoid swirling further and further down the crap shoot like we did from game to game this year then I'll be happy. I'll say 8-4 plus a bowl W.. Make it 9-4 and a good start to our climb back to the pinnacle of college football.

I'm going with the eternal optimist approach.

Bare minimum 6-6 reg season with bowl win = 7-6.

We avoid another losing season.

You know until 2011 UT had never had consecutive losing seasons since it had a football program.

I think I'm right about that, correct me if I'm wrong.

I think it's realistic that we might have 7 or even 8 reg season wins.

Unrealistic but hey, who's to rule out 9-3 or even 10-2?

If we do get that lucky and it's probably going to take some good bounces for us to do better than 8 wins, some lucky breaks probably to even get to 8, we'll likely not be favored in our bowl game.

At any rate I'll be happy with a bowl game and a winning season, you gotta crawl before you can walk.

Interesting fact; the SEC is fielding teams in 9 bowls this year, the SEC team is favored in every game.

Where exactly are you guys seeing 6 or 7 wins on this schedule?

October looks like it's going to be another 0 win month. And outside of UK (which won't be automatic considering it's in Lexington), I don't see us being favorites in any of the November games (Vandy is way ahead of us right now and the Auburn job will be a much quicker turn around considering Malzahn's recent recruiting and coaching there).

As much sunshine as we tried to pump coming into this season, I think it's time to be realistic. With the only good players we have going pro, this roster is barren. 2013 may be our worst year yet...

Not being a Negavol but I don't see where you guys are getting these 7 or 8wins. We will go 3-1 in out of conference and 2-6 in conference play. Auburn and Kentucky will be our SEC wins. I don't see us beating Vandy or South Carolina. To get to a bowl, we will have to upset Vandy. I can't believe what I just said. I oughta be flogged for that, but this thread is about realistic expectations. I think we got 5-7 for another consecutive year.

The thought that a win over Vandy would be considered an upset makes me want to projectile vomit.

A tackle

I think 7-6 is realistic. We get to 6 and not have to play an SEC team in the bowl game.

5-7 is realistic too.

Austin Peay + W. Ken. + S. Fla. = 3

1 W vs (pick one) Fla., Geo. or So Car. = 4 ttl

Then add Mo., Aub, and Ken = 7 ttl.

And that's without a win over Vandy.

How long has it been since Vandy beat the Vols two years in a row?

I think that was before Gen. Neyland came to town.

I've been wondering whether UT or Aub would get their programs turned around faster.

Let's hope it's us.

Auburn has Much Much Much more talent than UT....not even close
