Realistic expectations for next year

Win the games we are suppose to and compete in the rest. Also not get completely blown out by AL and FL. And it would be really nice to see us have a chance to win one of those, just a realistic chance.

Does anybody give us a chance against any of the big teams next year? We've got to start beating the Florida's of the world on a semi-consistent basis. It's just far too annoying to live in the Land of the Gator. Starting this year, I hope Jones breaks with the Dooley tradition of losing every single game he's expected to lose. This year, beat one of these teams: Oregon, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, or South Carolina. This would be a strong sign that things are different. I know, kind of a tall order in the first year.

I pulled this chedule from ut sports.com .
Although this is probably wishful thinking, I think if we can win a game that we are not supposed too, then we go 8-4. This included wins over UGA,Missouri and Vandy. Which are three games we could very well lose too. So here's to Hope, Faith and a whole lot of pride. Go Big Orange!:hi:

I'll take anything record at .500 or higher and a defense that at least makes it into the top half of college football.

Play for 60mins with maximum effort , execute the basic fundamentals of the game you know, like blocking and tackling .

Dumb statement, although I think 6 or 7 is more likely, 8 is not impossible. We were a td or less away from a win against USCe and Georgia with Dooley and Sunseri.

And that was three years in Fooley's offense. We are losing everyone important on offense and breaking in a new system. 5-7 at best. We would have to upset Vandy to go bowling.

Vandy loses Zac Stacy and Jordan Rodgers. That is the bulk of their offense and they play at Neyland=w.
Kentucky=w Auburn is in trouble and bad=w. SC loses Latimore and comes to Neyland=toss up. Georgia loses QB and has 7 def players who are 1 or 2 round picks and plays at Neyland=toss up. Plus three out of conf wins.
Worst case 6-6 3-5 sec middle pick 7-5 4-4 sec best case
8-4 5-3 sec which is not entirely a pipe dream. At the end of the day what really counts are week to week improvement and the little things. Clock management /men on field/ learning again how to tackle as they have been taught since pee wee football.

Who said Murray was going pro?

let's see what JC college players we get. We are going to need reciever and defensive backs. If we can get a couple of above average players at these positions it could be a respectable year. I am certainly not going to assign numbers at this point.

:)

I'm going with 6 wins. Five wont piss me off or anything, considering where were at. Most of all, I want to see improvement.

We will have more Jr's and Sr's next year than we've had in the last four. Even losing the players on O we still have more talent than Vandy or Mizz. My expectations are 6-6 min and will be happy with 7-5. Anything below 6-6 I will be a bit disappointed, but as long as we see improvement I will be okay with. The good thing about our schedule is the last 4 games are winnable and hopefully with a better coach that is when we will be playing the best.

The last 4, other than Kentucky, are anything but winnable. USC and Mizzou are gonna be better. Mizzou should have won 3 games they lost and that was with their injuries. Mizzou is gonna be a sleeper team in the east next year. Also, this same team of juniors and seniors have yet to win a true road game.

I'll be happy with any winning record. If it's 7 - 6, I can live with that next year. Anything more will be added frosting on the cake.

Realistic 6-6
Could happen 7-5
Doubtful 8-4

Just show improvement from game to game.
Play 60 minutes of football each game.

my realistic expectation is to have people that ...

Tackle
give effort
dont act like bray
beat someone they are not favored to win

not in order but i would be happy to see improvements in this area. I really dont care about the wins and losses next year except for getting to a bowl game would be taken care of by the 4 things above.

amen!!!

3 OOC wins and UK are the only games we will be favored in next year for sure. Possibly be favored against Vandy and Mizzou as well. That is 6 games. I don't see any way we get above 7 wins in the regular season. 7-6 with a win in the Music City Bowl. Mark it down.

I think I'm suffering from some weird form of Stockholm Syndrome, but I'm so disappointed in not playing in a bowl game, I think a bowl appearance will be real success next year. Winning it seems almost too fantastical.

Vols, Butch!

By your logic we would be a three win team going into Vandy and Mizzou weeks. No way we are favored. They will all be bowl eligible by then

I just want us to make it back to a Bowl next year. 6-6 would would satisfy me and anything above that is just Gravy.

Realistically, we're looking at another 5-7 season. If our record is worse than that, then we made a terrible hire and will be rendered irrelevant for a decade or so, given Butch's ridiculous contract, unless some booster swoops in and saves the day. Thanks, Hart!

Simply put, these games are not winnable ...
@ Bama
@ UF
UGA
USC
@ Oregon

These games will be tough
@ Mizzou
Vandy
WKU - (See last year's Troy game)
Aub

We should beat the following easily:
@ Kentucky
Austin Peay
South Alabama

For those predicting 7-5 I'd recommend you lower expectations to 5-7. You don't get waxed by Vandy, lose Bray, Hunter, Patterson, Rivera, and Rogers, install a new offense and get better the following year.

Until I see us recruit some gamechangers on defense and equal or decent talent to replace those leaving the offense, I think this is a 6-6 team tops that could easily be 4-8. The schedule is brutal and the pantry isn't as stocked as some seem to think.

This....

4 wins tops. You guys getting your hopes up. haven't ya'll learned from the past 10 years of crap. we beat AP, WKY,S. ALA, Ky, and thats it. Vandy beats us again. MO is @ MO.
We are no longer the UT of old. this is a brand new era of football and we ain't relevant. Not for a while, anyway. We lost our 3 best players and unless jesus is our qb this is gonna be ugly.

Western Kentucky is not a given win.....sadly
