Realistic National Championship scenarios: Separating out contenders and pretenders

bama would kill oregon.

agreed.
oregon hasnt proved that they can play defense yet/

if they go undefeated then thye can have their shot/.

i see TCU and boise going undefeated and ohio state and maybe bama having one loss apeice.
this will really cause the BCS to have a fit.
i dont see them putting both TCU and Boise in the champ game

i think its still bama and ohio state. ohio state missed their shot last year to lose the natl champ game to an SEC team. they make up for it this year.

I fully expect Alabama to lose one game to either Florida, or Auburn or perhaps even Arkansas. I think their kinks will be exposed this saturday, they'll then run through Florida, have a tough game with Auburn later on in the season, and they'll meet UF in Atlanta for the SECCG. Depending on whether or not Addazio has been demoted or not will determine how this game turns out, but right now I'm going with Bama to take the win and head off to the National title game.

Oregon? Well, I expect the Ducks to drop a game or two depending upon how the defense progresses. They could possibly drop a game to Stanford, USC, or Oregon State.

Nebraska may very well be the most overrated team in the nation not named Ohio State. Hopefully they'll lose to Texas, otherwise I don't see them dropping a game. Their schedule is a cake walk.

If we're all lucky, Ohio State will drop a game to someone in the Big 10. Like always, they're tremendously overrated.

I doubt Boise or TCU make it to the NCG.

1. For all the heat Boise State takes for playing two top 25 teams, how many do Texas and Nebraska play this year?

Texas plays two: Oklahoma and Nebraska. (Granted the Big 12 title game could add one more.)

Look at Texas' schedule. Are you telling me that Boise wouldn't definitely beat: Rice, Wyoming, Texas Tech, UCLA, Iowa State, Baylor, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Florida Atlantic and Texas A&M?

Boise would get 10 wins guaranteed with Texas's schedule. It has already beaten Wyoming much worse than Texas did. And it might well go 12-0 in the regular season. But no one questions Texas.

And Texas plays a murderer's row compared to Nebraska's crap schedule.

Nebraska plays one top 25 team -- Texas, at home. Otherwise this is its "competition:" Western Kentucky, Idaho, Washington, South Dakota State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Iowa State, Kansas, Texas A&M and Colorado.

It's downright possible that Nebraska will play three teams all season that finish with a winning record.

Write this down and underline it: Boise State's schedule is tougher than Nebraska's.

Yet I haven't heard that mentioned anywhere before now.

Maybe Nevada or Fresno sneaks into the top 25 by the time Boise faces them as well.

Hold on a second....

Sure, they might play the same amount of top 25 teams, but Nebraska's conference slate is exponentially tougher than Boise's.

Have you seen Nebraska's schedule? Other than Texas, who appears to be down this season, they literally don't play anyone.

The Big XII North is in the crapper(and has been for a time now), but those teams are stronger than just about everyone else Boise will play in the WAC.

For the love of God... Please, please let Boise State play Alabama in the NC. That way they can get absolutely destroyed and everyone will shut up about it.

(not you guys on the site, but everyone in the media who talks about them never getting a fair chance.)

Boise will end up playing four top 25 teams with two of them being the last two games of the year. Oregon state will float in and out of the polls all year. And Nevada is no joke this year they ll probably finish in the top 15 if not the top 10 with one loss being to boise. And fresno state will be in the top 20 with 2 losses coming at the hands of nevada n boise. And it wouldn't shock me at all to see v tech bounce back into the top 15. But regardless boise is still going to need ohio state and oregon both to lose a game for them to make it in the national championship game

it's the bottom 9 of boise's schedule that should stop them from getting to the NC game.

they'll drag around atleast one game and fail to hang the speed limit on someone, thus causing them to fall out. I dont see them losing, but they'll get the yips like everyone else does at least once this season.

Interesting OP. I hadn't thought about it so holistically. Ya, Nebraska does have a possible path of least resistance.

Oregon will lose a game. First year starter at QB and a weak defense.

Florida ain't winning jack if their offense doesn't improve fast.

I'm not sure it has to improve that fast. Handicapping the schedule now, the Gators would be favorites in every game except Bama. That's with an inconsistent offense. And I really wouldn't want to be the Bama team that, after slogging through an SECW schedule, had to beat them again for all the money after they have had 12 games to get it together.

A 1 loss SEC champion Florida team might not be the most likely scenario at this point--that would be the Tide--but it wouldn't surprise anyone very much, either. Their talent level is just too high.

Thomas will be fine. Pac-10 looks better from top to bottom than in past years, but from what I've seen of Thomas, he'll do well enough.

BTW, love the avi. Was probably my favorite cartoon when I was a kid.

Not ASU. They get Zona at Autzen. Maybe USC if the trogans decide to play up, or the civil war. IMO those are the ducks only possible losses.

USC might be easy for Oregon. Like, potentially real easy. Arizona impressed me the other night. Nick Foles is perty good.

They don't play stanford?

The two possible losses I see for the Ducks are Stanford, who carved them up last season, or USC. They could go undefeated, but I don't see it. If they do make it to the NC game, they'll be beaten by either Florida or Bama. They have a fighting chance against Ohio State, who in my opinion is tremendously overrated.

I'm not so sure. He looked really inconsistent against Portland State, and the Ducks only have one go to receiver.

Thanks.

Arizona Stanford and Oregon State are probably oregons three toughest this season. Zona and Stanford are at Autzen. Oregon is definitely a world beater of sorts at home. I think they win both of those with relative ease. Oregon State will be the toughest test and once again the best PAC 10 game of the season.

oregon hasn't beaten cal and USC on the road in 10 years and most of those games haven't even been close. don't assume those are victories.

Cal doesn't stand a chance, and USC hasn't been this bad since 01-02. If people were to assume, there'd be reason to.
