Realistic National Championship scenarios: Separating out contenders and pretenders

Even still, their defense is better than Cals. I very much doubt they'd give up 50 points to Nevada.

And yet, Cal remains irrelevant. And no, Oregon isn't Florida(I would know) nor Texas, but they aren't Cal either. They actually have a lilttle bit of success from time to time. Cal can't even claim that.

they gave up 42 straight points in one half at home to oregon. I dare say they are capable of anything.

Until last year, an absolute down year for the pac-10, they hadn't done anything of note that wasn't due to the current head coach at Cal. You know the last time we heard they were on their way to being elite, right before they went .500 for the next 4 years.

Oregon >>>> Nevada. On top of that, one of those TD's was off a pick 6, and the other was off a punt return.

Oregon had two outright conference championships last decade, whereas Cal had none. Chances are Oregon will start of this decade with another conference title and a top 10 finish, and Cal will still be irrelevant.

Speaking of, when's the last time Cal had a Rose Bowl appearance? I'll help you out. It was over 50 years ago. :birgits_giggle:

one of nevada's qb was a pick 6 as well. and you have no idea how good oregon or nevada are.

you aren't winning the conference this year. sorry. and kelly will have you on probation in 3 years. enjoy.

I love when fans of two programs that have been, are, and always will be USC's b!tches argue about finishing second in their conference on the board of a team with more historical relevance than both said programs combined.

"My team" has never been USC's "b!tch".

Yes I do. I know Nevada is and will always be a mediocre program. I also know Oregon is currently the class of the Pac-10.

Don't mistake me arguing for Oregon as me being a crazed fan. I like the Ducks, I root for them in Pac play, and will attend the school next fall(sports marketing), but they aren't "my team".

Falsified accusations/wishful thinking/sour grapes. How's it feel?

your age explains a lot. when you get older you will understand when you are seeing flash in the pans.

Florida wasn't much of a program before the 90's. Luckily, what happened then has little bearing on what happens today.

comparing florida to oregon is laughable. you'll understand what i mean when you actually live in eugene for 4 years.

You don't know how old I am. :ermm:

Again, Oregon isn't Florida, not even close. I simply used Florida as an object to depict how meaningless a programs history is in reference to today's game. Having an illustrious history is great, but it has little to do with the landscape of today's college football.

yes, but oregon sucked for years for a good reason. it's in the middle of nowhere in a state that produces almost zero div 1a talent. a pac-10 championship every 10 years is about as good as it will ever get, not matter how much money phil throws at it. let's not forget washington state was a top 10 team with a pac-10 championship not so long ago as well.

Funny.

Oregon's been to 5 Rose Bowls in its history. USC recently had a streak of appearing, and crushing its opponents (Penn State, Illinois, Michigan) I might add, in 4 consecutive. USC actually wins Heismans- 7 to be exact. Oregon resorts to advertising via billboards of a scatter-brained QB- to no avail. USC has national championships. Oregon babbles about uniforms.

You're preaching to the wrong person. I'm very well aware of the fact that Oregon will never be a perennial power.

For the record, Eugene >>>>>>>>> north Florida.

And that is why I'm attending U of O as opposed to UF. The weather, people, and Portland(I know...), are more my speed. That and I no longer have any family in Florida.

Folks from the Euge don't much like to be associated with Portland. Knox to nashville isn't too much further than Eugene to Portland.

I was referring to Portlands close proximity to Eugene. Seattle isn't too terribly far neither.
