Realistic QB situation

Agreed. Sorry there's a whole bunch of people on here wanting to just throw Nico to the wolves.
Nico isn't ready imo. Like I said in one of these threads. Nico goes out there and throws high or missing WR like we saw in the practice videos and all we'll hear is we paid $8 million for this

I agree but wish he would run more like a guy that is 6'5 235 lbs.

Turned down a couple opportunities to run yesterday and doesn't seem inclined to tuck and run much on improvised plays or seek out contact.
I wonder if they're telling him not to run to try and keep him from getting banged up this early in the season. He ran yesterday and slid and AP guy was allowed to hit him with no penalty called by those crap Refs. Joe looked a little slow getting up from that.

Very possible.

I'm as fired up as everyone else on Nico long term but it's very rare to see a freshman come in and dominate at QB, especially in the SEC.

And they don't have anything else behind those two. Hate to slam Moore and Shuler but this season is FUBAR if either of those guys get starts.

It's silly to suggest we play Nico over Milton even if he lays an egg in Gainesville. This is Joe's team and it will go as far as he can take it. He has an improved running game and defense in my opinion and has enough talent at WR and TE to play with anyone on the schedule. Even our offensive line, after 2 games and with an injury to Cooper seem to be playing better than expected. He hasn't thrown any picks and seems to be making good decisions. But we have to find a way to push the ball down the field, hit open receivers consistently, and vastly improve our 3rd down efficiency to make some noise in the SEC.

Next thing you know…we’ll be bringing in the Waterboy to play LB.

The madness never stops on VN!

Seriously. I'm genuinely floored. I've seen people start the "backup QB should play" talk early in seasons, but jumping straight to the third string QB talk? After two wins? That's something else right there.

Milton is 4-0 with no turnovers since taking over. But the offensive production is down, especially on 3rd down. In a those games we are converting less than 25% vs Clemson and 3 overmatched opponents. I don’t see Milton all of a sudden completing a great % of downfield throws. Do we just live with that?

Nico isn’t physically ready, especially with an OL that is struggling to protect the QB. When do we throw him out there anyway (like Bray or Dobbs)?

Moore is a walk-on but likely able to make some throws Milton is misfiring on.

This 3 way decision may be Heupel’s biggest so far.
"Down", from Hendon and Hyatt? No way. It's not like UT is an established powerhouse program that has had multiple consecutive top 3 recruiting classes. Some of y'all got last seasons results twisted and thought we'd have the #1 offense every year.

You got one of the quality control jobs with the government?

This is the backup QB is always the better QB mentality.

The entire offense struggled yesterday. Move on.

Heupel has set the bar extremely high in 2 yrs lol. How quickly we forget. Do you guys remember when Pruitt was here and we averaged like 21 pts a game? We're getting a little spoiled I think. Yes, I'd love to score 46 pts a game like we did last year, but maybe that's not who we are this season. One thing that helps is that our defense is much improved, as is our running game. What we need is better execution from out WRs in terms fewer drops and crisper routes. Can't change QBs when your starter isn't turning the ball over and we're winning. Any other opinion is silly. Only can make that change if turnovers start happening and a game is in danger as a result. Run the ball, play aggressive defense, and take more deep shots to stretch the defense. GO VOLS!!!

We need our WRs to catch balls that hit them in the hands. Joe wasn’t bad yesterday. He had a few overthrows but I counted 6 balls the Wrs flat out dropped.
I was there and seen it. I’ve been wondering why people are so mad at Milton? Yeah he had a couple of overthrows but the WRs had skillet hands last night.

Joe was bad at the start - started out 1 of 7 or 1 of 8. A few overthrows and few thrown behind - maybe 1 that was flat out dropped that wasn't behind the receiver where a trailing defender could impact the catch.
If they got their hands on them (which on several incompletions they did), they should pull them in; no QB throws a perfect pass every time, receivers make adjustments to throws all the time. I honestly believe the big issue is that they are all “trying too hard” look like they all just need to relax and go have fun!

I do think Moore figures in if Milton struggles and Nico isn’t ready. If the offense is stagnant next week in the swamp, I’d rather see Moore try to provide a spark than Nico at this point. Later in the season is a different story.
Barring horrific injuries, if Gaston Moore figures in the conversation as a starter, there would probably be mutiny in the locker room, if not the coach's offices.

For all his issues, Milton is on a different level than Moore. Even with his youth, Nico is on a different level than Moore. That's not to be disrespectful of Gaston Moore, he's a freaking D1 QB at a top 10 program. The man can definitely play QB at a high level and I'm glad he's a Vol, but I think the kids say, "Let's talk the real real."

If Gaston Moore started against an SEC opponent, you wouldn't like what you would see and Josh Heupel wouldn't like the conversation he would have with Danny White and Donde Plowman.

Yep, Keyton’s fumble was Joe’s fault too bc his hand were sore from catching fastballs..
