Reality Check for the upset minded.

Even if the worst case does happen and we get our asses handed to us at an ooc on the road just think back to how pleasantly suprised we all were with the UGA and USC showings following that collapse at OR. A game does not define a season.

We gonna shock the World!!
alright seriously, Im not ready to say we will win this game yet, however I think this team will be competitive and not lay down.
GO VOLS

you know there is a reason they call them UPSETS don't you ?

they don't call them impossibles or never gonna happens, they are called upsets and they happen quite frequently. So take your numbers and statistics and stick em in your pipe and smoke them.

Because many years ago there was a horse that was not expected to win a race and it did and its nane was Upset?

Forget about the weight and stats on this one boys.

My biggest concern will be the possessions our defense will have to play with our uptempo offensive game. If we can survive the first half and keep our defense off the field, we will do just fine.

I'm old enough to remember the '86 Sugar Bowl.... We weren't given a chance then too!

The last time Tennessee won a true road game that wasn't Vandy, Memphis or Kentucky was against Mississippi State in 2007.

Oklahoma is just a tad tougher than that, so the last time Tennessee beat a ranked team on the road was 2006 against #9 Georgia.

The 2007 Vols were 10-4 with an SEC East Championship.

The 2006 Vols were 9-4, 9-3 in the regular season.

Do you guys still think we will win? Statistics say hell no.

What does any of that have to do with 09/13/14?

Nothing.

We pull one out of our ass in Oklahoma and fans should expect 12-0 imo. Only tougher game on our schedule is Alabama.

Funny how looking at this in a realistic way = being negavol or defeatist. I will not love the Vols any less, I will not trust Butch any less but I think it's gonna be a long night for our Vols. I have hope, and hope every Vol fan does but expecting a win is just not anywhere within the spectrum of reality.

:lolabove:

" Defeatist P-----s would be the correct term, sir! Calling for a blowout and knowing absolutely nothing about Oklahoma, besides their ranking and probably less about how the young talented Vols will react is what pisses me off!! The way people are attacked on here when calling for a win, you would think you were on a Sooner board. GO VOLS GIVE EM HELL ANYWAYS!!!

Oklahoma History Lesson

What is a Sooner? Sooner is what they called the cheaters that left sooner than they were suppose to during the Land Rush of 1889. My great grandfather was a Sooner and we still own the ranch he claimed early! So, they are named after cheaters for what its worth!

I'm beyond tired of "realistic" fans. The very nature of being a fan is to support regardless of the situation. I have never been sure why peope want to post "real" doubt on fan forums.

What you see as doubt many see as discussion. How much fun would it be for everyone to just agree and say "we gonna whip dey ass" ? When did looking objectively at a matchup and giving an honest assessment become a bad thing? We are all fans of the same team some like to break it down and look it analytically and some just expect to win every game without even looking at the reality of the situation.

Yep variety is the spice of life.

We are 20 point underdogs for great reason the sooners are a powerhouse.

The best I can see for the vols is win time of possession, and keep the sooners from getting a 16 point lead or higher.
Also avoid the turnovers. Vols got blown out if the water in first half vs the ducks which is a mountain that team could not overcome or climb. Yeah should we avoid that I say our chances are favorable.
The longer the vols stay in the game the more favorable their chances of winning.

Technically we beat LSU on the road with Dooley for about 35 seconds.

That may have been the greatest most harrowing abysmal chokejob I've ever seen in vols football.
Outplayed lsu for most of the game, couldn't put them away yet still a chance to win and then found a way to blow it in what should have been a win but blew it by a guy that didn't go off the field stayed on allowing for the to many players on the field the second life with a td.

One of the most unique ways to choke that I know of in Football.

Yes no doubt the missed field goal vs Alabama is still damn abysmal and a close second in my opinion.

This is what I don't get. Why is there a perception that an honest assessment of the odds of success are somehow mutually exclusive with support for the team? Hells bells, I'm going to be cheering my ass off for UT to win in spite of my acknowledging the unlikelihood of victory. Isn't that the very essence of "support regardless of the situation"?

Yes.

I'm 35ish..I don't get the Alabama hate because I grew up with UT beating that ass..so the "veterans" might not see the teams performance like I do..

Here is my quick summary of Bama hatred:

I was 7 weeks old for the first UT win over Bama in my lifetime.

I was 12 years old for the 2nd UT win over Bama in my lifetime.

1971-1981 = 0-11

1982-1985 = 4-0

1986-1994 = 0-8-1

At 24 my lifetime UT record vs Bama: 5-19-1

Bama hate > Florida hate > Georgia Hate

Whats wrong with some people? Of course we'll do good and not get ****ing blown out. Who do you think we are? VANDY!? Vandy's offense couldn't gain yards if there was no defense on the frikken field!

UT has capable offense that might lose a couple of early drives but when they get momentum they get crazy. The defense is also doing great though the OLBs need to get better against QBs who roll out instead of stepping into the pocket

Oh? What's that? Arky State was a low level team and this is a high? Yeah. OU hasn't played anyone good either. That team Kiffin went to went from #1 to unranked during the season. If this was week 7 we'd know more, but we don't. What we know is a bunch of stats.
Stats and football are BS. I learned that when I drafted Trent Richardson in Fantasy Football last year as my 2nd Round pick.

While UT is likely to lose on Saturday, it has nothing to do with the last time that UT beat a ranked team on the road, or what the record was 7 years ago when it happened.

You know, UT is 0-2 in the Smokey Grey's too. Your view of "statistics" says we will never win a game in them...right?
