Reason why recruiting is down a bit compared to previous 2 classes

Pearson would have no impact one way or the other on the numbers.

It could be Jumper. If they put him on scholarship he has to be an initial counter for getting scholarship within the first two years. At this point, they expect him to start at MLB.

Isn't it the 85 that's affecting us this year, not the initial counter 25?

I know your always right when it comes to things like this. Hopefully when the pads come on Kirkland can show out and be the beast in the middle that we need. Hopefully this happens by the Florida game.

I want football smart MLBs who diagnose and anticipate where the play goes. Never heard that Butkus was ever timed but Mike Singletary's fastest was 4.8 and he lasted until the second round. Chris Spielman was a beast and did everything right at Ohio State EXCEPT time a fast 40. LaVar Arrington was really fast...you know? The Redskins broadcaster. :gone:

not sure who debunked it for you but what I understand is watch out for him.. to be there..

i dont believe this will be the case when Sept. 5th actually rolls around. I think Jumper will play and i think hes solid. I just doubt hes the starter when its all said and done.

its not 1985 either. With the way offenses are nowadays you gotta be able to run.

he knows what to do and where to be.. far better than anyone else. when he tackles he gets people down as well.

I think that's great news. Adds to the talent and depth of the LB corps. Can't be anything but good.

Any thoughts on Bates?

All valid points.

It was nice having Al Wilson & Leonard Little and their 4.5 speed though.

Singletary could play in every era...check Ray Lewis 40 times. Brian Urlacher was the best of both worlds and will be a first ballot HOFer... But he was never as good as those two. Jakob Johnson had no problem running to a spot last year...he got to that spot faster than AJ...it was just the wrong spot.

Worked better for Leonard Little using that speed at DE tho. And Al Wilson had that speed, but what made him great was his instincts.

i realize all that and i agree. Even our coaches will tell you that you gotta be able to run though.

haha yeh it was def the wrong spot for Jakob. Should have been at DE or something. I really dont know where he should play lol

Most of us hope that Kirkland and/or Bates gets it quick and holds the spot. But if Jumper plays the best, why worry about it? :dunno:

im not really worried about it. Im just saying i dont think that will be the scenario when opening kickoff rolls around.

Jumper can run...don't know how fast...has that ever been established? It's kinda like our freshman QBs, I've HEARD that Dormady ran the same time or faster than Sheriron...but the latter is considered more athletic. Jumper might be a product of lower profile camps or none at all, mediocre training et al. Lawson gets him and suddenly he turns out faster than his high school profile? Not unheard of. FTR, we hear this every year. walkon or lower rated prospect shoots to the top in spring and by Fall, sanity reigns. Then again, we have Jacob Gilliam. :wink2: If healthy, I think Kirkland corrals this eventually and holds as long as he's here. But I won't freak out and panic if someone outplays him. The coaches prolly want the best player playing.

I agree. Plus, Kirkland hasn't had a shot at the position since he was out during the spring. I doubt the coaches would already rule him out without seeing what he can do. Jumper may be leading the way right now, or possibly the coaches are using coach speak to motivate everyone else. Either way, we all know they won't hesitate to put in who they feel is the best for the position.

Don't know Jumpers exact speed but at the end of the orange and white game when Butch had the team line up to run the 40 he was in the second group of 5-6 which was based on the fastest times from spring practices. His group was mainly made up of DB and WRs so he must be able to run. JRM may have been the same group.
