Reasons why Butch Jones is staying with Worely as the starter.

I highly doubt any coach will ever redshirt 75% of a freshman class & regardless of who he recruits they will have to be coached up. The key is getting talent & that's it.

wake forest and northwestern almost redshirt 100%.

generally speaking, you are correct. A quick glance at about 5 SEC teams about 15% to 20% of the 2012 classes were already off the team so difficult to assess what percent was redshirted in those classes. When I get time, I'll try and get percentages. I have the data, just need to calculate it

i don't believe redshirting is an issue with these qbs. fans need to get off it. stop beatin it into the ground. CBJ is going to get through these next few brutal weeks and go with one of the freshman towards the end of the season. it still gives the young guys more practice with a new system, less chance of injury, and doesn't totally destory every piece of confidence they have. they will play, but don't expect it till after uga, ala, usc,. im thinking mizzou game. red shirting doesn't matter to these coaches unless an injury is involved. they will play the best qb at the right time.

Yes there will be attrition for a variety of reasons but if you redshirt over 15 kids per class with an 85 scholarship limit the math will eventually not add up.

1.And This is the biggest reason, Butch Jones wants to go with the guy who gives us the best chance to win.

Worely is a Junior QB who has experience and he's the most polished QB we have. He's not going to throw a true freshman in and we go 4-8. The goal is to get 6-6. He's already feeling the heat and the boobirds from the fanbase. He's going to go with the best chance to win and right now that is Justin Worley.

2. He doesn't want to burn our QB's redshirt.
We need to have quality depth down the line.
This is a must.

3. Worley needs as many reps as he can. This is a brand new offense that everyone including Worley is adjusting to. While Worley is to blame for a lot of of the problems on Offense. The Wideouts and O-Line share the blame
as well. From Recievers not running the routes to our Backs & O-line not making their correct blocks.

Biggest reason is that Butch knows he has a pass this year. If he goes 5-7 he will not be sent packing. He can afford to go with the less talented QB while he brings in talent.

Next year he will not be given same luxuries. Fans will expect improvements.

I believe both Freshman have more talent than Worley and Petered-out (sorry but he did 1st half of UF game). Ran into a player (who didn't make travel roster) who said Ferguson will be the starter by next year. Says Ferguson has the better arm between all 4 QBs. Said evident in practice. Believe Worley will not be the starter next year. But for now Butch is waiting. He will not burn any redshirt unless he has to.

Again, my premise is Butch can fall on his sword year 1 and be ok. He is looking for years 2-5 which he has two talented QBs he wants to keep on campus for.

Don't diss the Voice. My wife went to high school a few short years ago with the country singer Justin Chains that wowed Blake.

How do I know? What what?

Who? Man, I may be a proud native of Tennessee, but that doesn't mean my life revolves around country music. However if anything in the world richly deserves a "diss" they would be The Voice.

I think Jones should just go ahead and play the freshman. We will not win games with Worley being the QB plain and simple. Worley has no mobility, terrible arm, and no pocket presence. I would go ahead and get ready for next year.

I think Butch don't want to burn both redshirts and if he puts one in and he does like Peterman than he will have to go with the other one.

or

he puts one in and he does real good then next year the one Dobbs that he wants to play can't make it on the field and transfers.

just a thought .

Dobbs has put on some pounds witch will help him.

Worley starting, 3-1

Worley not starting 0-1

Huh?

Hubbs said they wanted to RS one of the QBs, not both.

Worrying about RS 2 of them is nonsensical. I hope the coaching staff has more sense than that. If there isn't significant improvement, they won't be around to take advantage of a 5th year. No, this year isn't going to make or break Jones, but no way he'll hold his recruiting class together coming off 4-8 (vs, for example, if they went 6-6 and got to a bowl game), which makes next year and the following that much more difficult.

And in addition to that, if the QB you RS turns out to be a star, he may very well declare for the nfl draft 3 years down the road anyway.

Jones has 2-3 years to find a QB for 2016 or 2017. Saving one of the current guys and continuing the horrid mess our offense is now is detrimental to CBJ's propsects, and the program's, if indeed one of the 2 freshman QB can help the team now.

I don't know if this has been posted:

From 247:if Butch thinks Ferguson or Dobbs or some random walk-on quarterback gives his team the best chance to win, he’s going to put that person on the field. For now, though, he thinks it’s Worley, and in this win-or-be-fired era of college football where every single game is so crucially important, coaching for the future doesn’t always work. Jones coaches week to week, and he’s trying to get this team to a bowl game. And he thinks that Worley is still the team’s best option to get that done. So look for Worley to stay under center unless he gets hurt, becomes horribly ineffective or a game gets out of hand.

Remember, this is a man who made a quarterback change on a 6-2 team last season, and with a kid who was 9-2 in his career as a starter. He’s not old-school in that way. He’s not anti-change by any means. He just doesn’t think the freshmen are ready. They don’t have much in the way of experience at receiver, which makes experience at quarterback even more imperative, and these freshmen didn’t enroll in time for spring practice — like Tyler Bray and Casey Clausen and several other early-contributing quarterbacks did before them. That does make a difference.

And to think we'd probably be 4-1 if he had started the UF game.

Possibly. We can be sure that the game would have taken a different course starting with the first possession which would have resulted in at least 3 points. Very unlikely that Worley makes the mistake or turnover that Peterman did.

We've already had 2 of those 3 what ifs.

Likely looking at a repeat of those 2 come Saturday.

this is exactly where Butch is. Can't get to a bowl game with anyone but Worley. Might not with him but he know he can't with any of the other 3.

the other major concern I've learned is if one of the freshman becomes starter, very likely the other 3 QBs transfer and then you go into 2014 with one QB..

Major concern..

I agree that part of Worley's problem might be confidence, and that in fact this might be most of the problem. And confidence includes being scared to take a hit. If he can settle down mentally and start hitting good passes it will go a long way towards making this team good again. I wish him the best.

So do we just consider this year a wash, I guess and look to the future?
