Do this for me: pretend this roster plays for South Carolina and not UT.....would you still be predicting 8 or more wins for them? I can imagine your analysis would go something like this......"USCjr replaces everyone on both sides of the line, question mark at QB, defense was terrible last year and they have the same coordinators, inexperience everywhere, brutal schedule...they're a 5 win team at best"

Absolutely SC would win 8 or more with our talent. Even more likely than us because Spurrier would score crazy amount of points on offense if he had our offensive talent. Also, our defense was so bad last couple of years it can only get better - and we are not replacing the whole D line - Johnson, Maggit, Vereen are back, no? Add to that few juco and freshmen studs that show up ready to play and we could be a lot better on defense than last year. O-line is the question mark, but if offensive skill positions do really well it may take pressure off the line because it will be more difficult for defenses to figure out how to attack us given all our options on offense. I think people will be surprised how well this team does this year - this just may be the year Tennessee football finally gets back to where it belongs.

6-6 should be the minimum expectation for this team.

Beat USU, UTC, ARK ST., UK, and Vandy.

That leaves 1 win against UGA, UF, MIZZOU, and USC.

If Butch "gets it" he should be able to get 1 or 2 of those 4 games.

I love how everyone is just chalking up Utah State as a W.

I mean, what does Vegas know anyways? Why listen to them?

The line is set to entice people to bet, its not a real prediction. That said, I think we win, but I don't think we blow them out. If we happen to lose, God forbid, we will see a meltdown on VN like no other.

By half of the posters. The other half will somehow blame Dooley.

Given that 90% of our talent will be freshmen, that we're completely replacing both lines of scrimmage, that we have huge questions at LB, CB and safety and that we still have a question as to who our QB will be (though I suspect it's Worley), I can't see more than 6 wins. Throw in the fact that Butch didn't exactly look like Lombardi on Saturdays last year --- in my estimation, his team looked very well coached in all of 2 games last year, vs SCar and Georgia -- I think I'll predict 5-7 until our young guys get some experience and live up to their ratings .....and until Butch shows he can prepare his teams to play much better on Saturdays.

Regardless of what Vegas says, if we can't beat Utah State (or UK, Vandy) we have the wrong coach. It should not take multiple years of rebuilding for UT to beat those types of programs.

1-11. Only win over UTC.

The Oline and Dline will get blown up on every play. We will have negative rushing yards for the season and give up 57 sacks.

To everyone that thinks winning 8 games is sooooo unrealistic, understand this.

UGA, USC, UF, and Mizzou are all going through huge turnover losing most of their top skilled position players. 3 out of the 4 mentioned will be starting new QB's and WR's. We have no idea how good or bad our team is going to be this year, but one thing is certain. We have playmakers. The kids we have coming in are used to winning. Plain and simple. They don't have the losing mentality that a lot of our upperclassman have.

If Worley starts QB (which he will), expect good things. He was steadily improving before getting injured last season, and that extra downtime allowed a lot of mental preparation and learning. To top it off, he now has more weapons all over the field in North, Malone, VP, Pig, Wharton, Croom, and Kameel Jackson. And let's not forget about the backfield with a Lane/Hurd duo. I understand that some worry about our Oline, but the truth is the Oline has 4 jr's and 1 fr starting. THINGS COULD BE WORSE.

Our defense also has a few playmakers in AJ, Maggit, Sutton, Randolph, TK Jr, and the Berry twins. A lot of people will downplay the Berry brothers because they are Freshmen, and I encourage those folks to go watch Eric Berry highlights from his first year. These dudes will show up ready to hit. This is what they've been preparing for their entire lives. They will show up ready to play. We don't know what to expect from our Dline, but hopefully the rest of the D's speed can compensate.

We won 5 games last season in Jones' first year as coach. One yard away from winning a 6th, which could have led to a bowl game and win #7. With the rest of the East going through turnover, we're not going to be any worse than last year. Expect to win 7 regular season games, with an opportunity to get to 8 with a bowl victory.

florida doesn't have a heck of a lot of turnover from last season.

of course, that's also part of the problem.

Haha i didn't want to offend you guys, so I referred to it as turnover. However, I don't think there's a chance that UF beats us this year, and that WILL result in the turnover that most of your fans are hoping for lol.

it's the same old, same old.

the defense will be fine. it won't be the steel curtain, but it will be good.

the problem, once again, is the offense.

and i am not buying in on driskel and i am not buying in on the offensive line.

7+ wins = 10% chance
6 wins = 20%
5 wins = 50%
4 wins = 15%
Less than 4 wins = 5%

So you don't think Jones is the right guy for UT?

That prediction means you think Jones has a 70% chance of losing to a team with less talent than UT will field this fall.

Before going off... take a look at Mizzou's losses. Their best two returning WR's are roll player level talents. They lost their best playmakers on D. They lost their best OL and RB. They lost their best QB.

They do NOT return a better roster than UT.

Great! Way to give UTC bulletin board material. Thanks a damn lot! 0-12.

Either way, the winning streak extends to a nice even 10 years in a row over Tennessee this year. Helluva "rivalry" we got going here....

I would love to agree with u 100% but I can't. I hate Florida more than anyone on Earth. I hope they lose in every sport. However, they have a 50/50 chance of beating us & the last decade has been good for them. Lastly I believe we can beat them & beat anyone if we don't have self inflicting wounds.
