Is our coach a decent recruiter AT all? Did he even try to convince Scotty or Tobias to stay around? Did he really want Jones or Ware?
It seems like these COMMITMENTS come out of nowhere.
I know it's crunch time but I bet you Turgeon can rack up the best of them to Maryland.

Why would he try to convince Tobias Harris to do something that would be detrimental?

Are you saying Martin is to blame for Chris Jones being unable to qualify academically?

Maryland's not looking at future sanctions.
This all on Pearl.

O.k...maybe that part I really don't care about. I honestly don't believe our coach knows how to recruit that well or sell our program. I would believe that all these kids that committed to TN didn't have any other big time offers.

Exactly where are all these blue chippers he should be pursuing in May?

Can we go back to my original question? I don't know these answers. I was hopping that this board would give me insight. Is it because of time? Lack of players? Or just the way he recruits?

At this point in the recruiting cycle, almost every impact player is long since off the board. The pool of players now consists mainly of late bloomers, academic question marks, and head cases.

We need depth. Anything at this point. If he can coach up these mid-level guys to put a respectable product on the floor, we can then start to rebuild with higher caliber players.

Tennessee is, in my opinion-based view, very much a wait-and-see school right now for big time players. Certainly none will leave their good schools to head on over to UT in the middle of May...you know, after they're signed and all.

I think coach Martin is doing what he can. With this NCAA thing coming up, if your a 4 or 5 star player you are not going to Tennessee until this is over and the kids see what is going to happen to Tennessee. Same could be said for football. I know we got some 4 star players but when we start winning in football Dooley will get 5 star players. You will see.:clapping:

Exactly. Think island of misfit toys, then you got it.

however the scraps he is eating up may be a waste. Also we may have the smallest guard oriented team in D1. Sad to see how far we have fallen because Bruce couldn't tell the truth.

Hat is exactly right. Basketball recruiting is very different from football. Basketball recruits do not wait and sign on the same date.

Next year's class will be the key one for Martin. Some great players in the 2012 class , especially in the state of Tenn. He's doing all he can right now just to get bodies. It's going to be a long season next year, but with one or 2 stud recruits in 2012, we shouldn't be down too long.

Thank you for saying this because people usually leave out the because part. No matter if you like Bruce or not, he put us in this terrible situation.

Lets just blame Bruce Pearl if we struggle next season, seems like a good way to feel better about it.

Pearlophiles will always be Pearlophiles. Attempting to use common sense with them is an exercise in futility.

You Hat and a few others remind me of a bunch of cliquish highschool girls. People are allowed to have a opion different than yours.

It's ok to have an opinion, however have some logical sense about the discussion. You may not like the way hat delivers his opinion but for the most part, he is spot on!
