Recruiting Efforts

That class also had Duke Crews, Ramar Smith, Cam Tatum, and Marques Johnson (all were top 25 at their position and top 100 overall, Crews and Smith were top 50 overall) as highly rated players, so Pearl went 1 for 5 there.

Cam Tatum's knees are shot. That's not really Pearl's fault.

It matters because it shows being top 100 means jack squat many times.

Okay?

The coach still did a poor job evaluating the kids and their abilities to stay in school and out of trouble.

Fulmer caught hell for bringing in dumbasses, I don't see why Pearl gets a pass.

It doesn't matter if they were "top 100" or not.

My alternative theory as to why he gets a pass is because he won a lot of basketball games and never had a losing season.

Maybe I'm overthinking it.

He doesn't get a pass. I've always said the last few years he was starstruck on getting a top ranked class and misevaluated, or let things slide in order to get a 4 or 5 star in. Then, they couldn't control them, and most coaches think they can. I'm not arguing that. I'm arguing that, among those players, they don't get recruited by BP unless they had great ratings and their ratings ended up being bs because they don't take into account grades, personality, issues, etc, etc.

I don't recall Johnson being highly ranked. He was a low 3* IIRC. Tabb was the 2nd best contributor out of that class.

I agree with the statement somebody made about Pearl wanting highly rated classes and sold out his preferred way to run his system to bring in highly rated players that didn't have a shot at succeeding in our system like Woolridge and Jurick to name a couple. Both were 4* top 60 players.
