Recruiting Efforts

yes,ok,yes,yes,no

i think the last question could be a maybe because we really don't know what will happen with a full year to recruit yet. I can't fault him for the recruiting done this season since most of the big names sign early. Coach Martin has a late start not a lot left to choose from. I do think he could benefit from the fact that there are 4 or 5 top 100 players instate in each of the next 3 years. Keeping a few here would be huge.

Pearlophiles will always be Pearlophiles. Attempting to use common sense with them is an exercise in futility.

Pearlophiles have been blinded by Pearl's success as he was and don't realize that he didn't simply make mistakes at Tennessee.

He was repeating a pattern of behavior which included a blatant disregard of the NCAA rules on recruiting that started long before he came to Tennessee.

Even his cookout venture was something he had been tagged with before.

To the end Pearl's ego had become so inflated that he believed he was TO BIG TO FAIL.

You Hat and a few others remind me of a bunch of cliquish highschool girls. People are allowed to have a opion different than yours.

Not sure what an "opion" is. I see I'm dealing with another fine product of the Hamilton County public school system.

If we're destined to suck this year I guess I just don't understand the logic in throwing away scholarships this year just to provide depth. This isn't football. The 3-4 questionable scholarships given this year could've possibly gone to more proven players next year. Why fill the bench with kids that no other SEC school even looked twice at?

As always, GBO!

Wouldn't it have been a little difficult to keep 5 men on the floor for 30+ games with only 7 scholarship players, 2 of which wouldn't start at Chattanooga.

Most of the top teams in college basketball only play 7 or 8 guys on a regular basis. If Martin gets the job done on the recruiting trail in 2012 and 2013, a couple of these guys will become just an insurance policy.

You can't go into a season with 7 scholarship players. You would have zero room for error in terms of injuries, transfers, or dismissals before you would have to give significant minutes to walk-ons.

I guess my thought is that the kids he's signing are essentially walk-ons. Am I way off base in that assessment?

It's ok to have an opinion, however have some logical sense about the discussion. You may not like the way hat delivers his opinion but for the most part, he is spot on!

I didnt say anything about his opinion or the way he and Sgm deliver them...I am simply pointing out that they attack anyone who dares dissagree with them.

You mean to tell me Wes Washpun is better than Tyler Summitt? Crazy talk.

Wonder how much better he will be than mcbee? I think using tyler summitt as your measuring stick is a little off.

The mind of a Pearlophile is like that of a little kid that knows that Santa is not real, but yet part of them just can't let go of the fact Santa is the "man" when you are a kid. Just like know Pearlophiles know that Bruce screwed up and put us in a bad mess, but part of them just can't let him go.

I say we just give this man a chance to recruit...I am not looking for a lot of 5 Star recruits or they will just leave like Harris did..I would love to watch the young men develop, and have senior leadership, every yr

Is our coach a decent recruiter AT all? Did he even try to convince Scotty or Tobias to stay around? Did he really want Jones or Ware?
It seems like these COMMITMENTS come out of nowhere.
I know it's crunch time but I bet you Turgeon can rack up the best of them to Maryland.

Allow me to fill that half empty glass you're drinking from.

Turgeon has the Baltimore area in his state to pull players from. Martin doesnt have that luxury with the hotbed in his state.

Stokes is gonna love our new strength and conditioning coach.
