With a day to sit on it, I actually am less frustrated by the offense.
A&M is the best passing defense in the SEC, they are 1st in completion % given up and 2nd in passing yards allowed and that's before we played them.
In fact only Miami and Bama have thrown for better than 58% against them and those are also the only two teams to throw for 150 yards or more (yes you read that correctly). Mind you they haven't just been playing cupcakes either, Auburn, Arkansas, Miami, and Bama. So our performance in the passing game wasn't exactly an anomaly, their defense has been that good.
But what is impressive is that we ran all over them, they came into the day as the best rush defense in the SEC and now are 4th, just in front of us.
So really what we as fans should take away more than anything is that our defense is one of the best in the SEC, 1st in yards per play allowed, 3rd in points allowed, 4th in rushing yards allowed, 4th in total yards allowed, 5th in passing yards allowed. We're a bit behind in turnovers at 1.3 a game, which has us 8th but Georgia and Alabama are also sitting at 1.3 a game.
So our passing offense got exposed/played bad...with us losing a few OL starters, losing Bru and Thornton and Joe continuing to be inconsistent it's not that shocking that we laid an egg against the best pass defense in conference. Hopefully the struggles will be teaching points for the staff and players and they make improvements moving forward. Bama & Georgia are the only two teams left that are as good or better than A&M defensively.
We have back to back road games coming up & we didn't show up for our only true road game in the swamp so we better have figured some things out cause we all know Kentucky and Missouri both are going to use every play/trick in the book to try and beat us.
