Agree there have been open receivers but nothing like last year. JW was matched up on a safety most of the time and running wild. I see JM going through his progressions and all qbs fail to see open receivers, easy to do when they're running around. HH missed plenty last year or we would have scored 100 points a game.
He’s not going through progressions. His INT, he didn’t look at anyone else and the DB sat in that spot the entire time. And most slants are predetermined. It is what it is. Just praying it changes because we would be a playoff team with better play at QB.

Rusty on Basilio with a heater of a stat:

For the Vols in 2021 and 2022, the percentage of pass interference calls on our incompletions was 22%.

For the Vols in 2023, the percentage of pass interference calls on our incompletions is 3%.
I still can't get over this.

Outrageous stat.

My reply wasn't a comparison between Joe and Hendo, not fair to Joe.

It was a comparison to the comment of "he's regressed" which is wrong. The difference between Joe in the Clemson game and what we've seen thus far has really come down to misses in the deep balls. He lacks timing, but some of Joe's deep balls were good throws and a missed PI or a drop is the reason they didn't hit.
I can agree with this. Good points. What I will say is hopefully we have more consistent QB play next year. This team with consistent QB play and better receivers next year will be hard to beat.

Thing is...I'm trying to think of the last superstar QB that "looked like a beast"

There's basically just Cam Newton...oh and Jared Lorenzen 👀

Give me Patty Mahomes or even Kyler Murray. A little squirt with an arm, legs, quick brain, and a quick trigger.
That’s true.

It's no secret that we have missed a lot of opportunities this season. It's also no secret that the refs haven't helped us with their wrong-calls/non-calls. This thread will be my best attempt at compiling the major things this season that SHOULD or EASILY could have gone our way, that, if they did, we'd be having a lot different conversation. And, hopefully, I can illustrate this team's true potential, if we fully play up to it.

A couple disclaimers: If it is not obvious how many points we would have gotten on a drive, I will estimate. For example, if there's no conclusive proof we would have scored, but we'd at least have had a chip-shot field goal, then I'll put our points at 5. If we miss an obvious TD, we missed 7. If we were dominating a drive and MOST LIKELY would have scored a TD, I may award 6 or 7. If we knocked ourselves out of field goal range, I'll probably say 2 or 3 based on how easy the FG would have been.

I am done with my "Points Left on the Field" thread. I've quoted it above. Pretty interesting to see where we'd be if we made fewer mistakes.

Ok folks. It is Thursday and we don't have a game thread. I am getting a little tweaky....

We have shot ourselves in the foot for sure but if things transpired in our favor on those plays, the entirety of the game thereafter would be totally different.

Looks like the Michigan State faithful have concocted their own “Meyerumors”

Quality coaching search going on at MSU. Complete with airport stalking and tail number searches. Only thing that could round it out into a classic would be to toss some Grumors on the fire and let the monster come alive!!!

Agreed, I honestly think Joe is a bad fit for this system.

The best QBs for what we do imo are either accurate guys with a good enough arm to hit deep, or QBs with a great RPO IQ. You don’t have to be a 4.4 guy to make it work, but knowing when to keep those hurry up RPO calls is huge for opening up deep ball shots.

Hendo was good in both areas and elevated a team above their talent/depth level last season.
