Recruiting Football Talk VII

On the first goal to go situation Milton ran the option to the left and kept it and cut it inside and got stuffed.

He didn’t follow the play design. Go back and look. He dove inside too quickly.

He needed to keep it for one more beat and stretch it out to the C gap and he walks in.
His option pitches made me nervous.

I know the refs were horrible, but when are they even remotely good? I believe the biggest problem with our Vols is the lack of depth. One player gets banged up and it changes the entire scheme on either side of the ball. I hope a few more recruiting cycles will take of this particular problem. They're still weeding out the last regimes lack of being able to recruit players that can play at this level.

Of you try to return a fair catch you get it at the spot the ball is caught. Since the other returner tried to return it we got it where we caught it.
There was no fair catch signal as defined by the NCAA rule book. No one on that field on either side nor anyone in the stands interpreted Dee Williams holding his arms out to his sides as a fair catch signal. That's why the rule book defines a fair catch signal as a signal made above the head, with one hand, to one side of the body. That's Section 8, Article 2.

That would be true if he gave a fair catch signal

I'm not arguing that, I see the fair catch signal as waving the arm above the head. I'm just saying as to why we got the ball at the 4 was because the refs deemed Williams waving his teammates away as a fair catch for whatever reason.

Idk, that fair catch rule is up there.
Idk, looks like Heupel caught lightning in a bottle with Hendo......let's not forget he was 2nd on the depth chart behind joe until Joe's injury and Hendo played so good he couldn't pull him. Just saying, he did have the best qb on the bench once already.

Huh?
I asked what his comment was directly referring to. . . was he singling out a particular position group. "They weren't taking their turns" is odd wording.
I took that as someone didn’t do what they were coached to do and execute the plays as designed. Could be the oline, the wr’s, rb’s or himself he’s talking about. Everyone has to do their job for this fast paced offense to work.

I’d like to hear @LA Vol thoughts? Should be interesting about the narrative around UT and officiating.
I think he said something about it earlier this year. I don’t remember exactly, but something like we send in a clips of bad calls every week and they don’t want Huep to call it out in public because we just got out of the violations and is just now starting to get on the conferences “good side”

That is true. One of the worst calls I've ever seen made at any level of football.
