Recruiting Football Talk VII

I was at the game yesterday, when they called Joe short and then we went for it on 4th & 1 and didn’t get it, there was a bama fan sitting in front of me that turned around and said “I’m sorry that was a terrible spot.” Even the bama fans saw the corruption
How can you even enjoy a win like that when you know deep down you were helped significantly by the clowns in zebra stripes?

Good news is the SEC will want us in a good bowl matchup for money. I bet we see fair officiating down the stretch outside of Georgia
Do you honestly believe this? We will not get fair officiating the rest of the way. We have not gotten fair officiating the entire year, even against Austin Peay!

Not really, Mizzou has a chance to get to a NYD bowl, UK needs the win to even have a shot at bowl eligibility, UGA will need the win for the playoffs. Uconn and Vandy are the only 2 we might get an even whistle for.

Because at the end of the day a W is a W on the record, and as fans I’m sure we wouldn’t care if the officiating ever was heavy in our favor either.

It’s still frustrating as hell though. Officiating in general is out of control. We can’t point to just one call that lost us the game yesterday, but guess who can? Iowa. I’d be furious if I was an Iowa fan this morning. I’m not sure HOW in one of the most lucrative sports on the planet that we can’t afford competent officiating and in fact it seems that the officiating is getting actively WORSE each year as more money gets made. None of it makes any sense.

Rational thought wants to agree. Last year was insane. But South Carolina was a red flag. You could write it off but not having us ready to play with playoffs on the line is a red flag. Florida this year, red flag. We are better than them, there is no excuse there. This second half collapse ? Red flag. Bama has the depth, and it’s saban. I understand how tough that is. But we literally were sleep walking. This team has got to dial in. The lack of focus is alarming with big games on the line. We have to close out this stellar recruiting class and find key fixes in the portal. This could go south in a hurry if we struggle down the stretch.
Even hall of fame coaches have head-scratching games. Steve Spurrier once lost to Mike DuBose twice in the same season. It happens.

We’re probably going to go 8-4 or 9-3 this year. Considering out recent history, that’s a pretty good follow up to an 11-2 campaign. If Heupel’s red flags are that he puts up a stinker or two in otherwise very good seasons, I can live with that. Because, eventually, he’ll have a team that’s good enough and deep enough to overcome that.

So we don’t have a shot at uga? Let’s just forfeit and stay healthy for the music city bowl then.
Whether we have a shot or not completely depends on if the referees are going to call a fair game or not. If there is a predetermined outcome that the SEC wants to happen, your chances are slim to none. That was proven yesterday.

Those poor officials. Tennessee jumping on top so early never allowed their fake objectivity to play out. Normally, they are involved in games where Bama is narrowly winning or winning by a lot. They were forced to show their hand early and had to keep pressing until the game was decided. The game wasn't decided until the failed 4th down late in the 4th. Poor guys. Their bias was on display throughout.

McCastles being held for 3 yards when breaking to the endzone. Would have been first and goal inside the 5. Instead, they ruled it couldn't be PI because the ball was deflected? It was holding!
Baron was in a chokehold on two soon to be sacks. One in the 1st half and one on the TD.
Where was the video evidence to overturn the 3rd down where Joe ran and picked up the first down? How could they determine where the nose of the ball was from any angle that was shown?
Small not out of bounds? Forward progress stopped?
The woman puncher kicking our DB? That 15 yards and personal foul might've free'd Dee up on the kickoff.
Ruling Joe short on another run when he was a yard past the sticks?
Every Bama 9 yard run turned into 10 without review? Why were all of our close plays reviewed upstairs?
PI in the end zone that should've given us a chance with all three timeouts remaining in a 1 score game.
A linebacker 10 yards off the line of scrimmage clapping to get the attention of his DB to the left is delay of game? It had zero impact on the play. There was plenty of time for Bama to audible and make the snap. Not a single Olineman reacted to it.
The Bama fans didn't even think GJL held the woman puncher on that 3rd down.

1 penalty for 5 yards. I wasn't upset. I expected it, and I shouldn't.
Even the reviews are corrupted now.

And you lose more games. Heupel is paid to win games. Why this is so hard for you all to understand it's beyond my comprehension

I think it’s completely fair to question whether Joe actually is the best choice to win games. Heupel clearly has a soft spot for Joe, and while I don’t blame Joe for either of our losses this year, this offense clearly has a ceiling with what he can do. Considering that we’ve only scored 20 points or less in 3 of our 4 SEC games so far, you’re telling me you don’t think Nico can score 20 points against Kentucky, Missouri, and Vandy? I don’t think it’s possible for this offense to be any worse than it has been.

We need to make a very detailed submission for the SEC office, which laughs at such things, and considers well documented compilations of crooked officiating a bragging point for their refs. Behind closed doors.

It would be just terrible, surely, you know, if somehow someone outside our Athletic Department got hold of it and it were posted from an infinite number of places on the internet from outside the university. Truth bomb.
This is the way.

Waking up this morning, and the loss is disappointing but understandable, but the most disappointing and inexcusable thing is still that we had players admitting that at halftime they thought they won the game. Just awful and that is directly on coaching to not have your players in the right headspace.
At what point do adults start becoming accountable? I have been a coach for sometime. I cannot tell you how many times whether sports or business that we have drilled, practiced, discussed, and prepared for all scenarios. In writing, verbally, in person, and during the moment. Then, inexplicably members of the team when things start well, just start talking smack, lose their edge, become braggart, stop doing the things they had been warned against. Many times, the most talented members of my team are the ones that do this.

Only a coach knows the truth. Only the players know the truth. The leader always takes the blame, unless your coaching South Carolina.

It's fine to question. I enjoy the debate. I just trust Heupel more than a bunch of morans. He's not infallible. But, I think he knows QBs.

I’m not sure I trust Heupel to honestly evaluate Joe. He chose Joe over Hooker, too. This is Josh’s guy and I think he’s handling him with kid gloves in some ways. Either way, I’m less concerned about Heupel’s QB selection than I am his ability to prepare his team for road games. 4 straight clunkers heading into another tough road game.

175 in the first half was nice and a couple of great catches but in the end when we needed it in the second half, it just didn't happen. I know there had to be one but I can't remember one pass inside the hash marks for more than 5 yards. That is something we either don't have the confidence we can do or we simply chose not to but it seems to be missing this year for some reason.
We didn't watch the same game
