Recruiting Football Talk VII

Not sure about interesting-- but not surprising. UT sends a communication to the SEC after every game. Interns prepare a compilation report-- all SEC schools do it, and all have grievances. It’s referenced on weekly conference calls and private calls, as well. This is SOP. It goes nowhere. No one thinks it will. To escalate, UT would have to comment publicly and challenge the SEC to address the issue and act decisively to bring about productive change. The only palatable way to do this is to secure support from other programs and make it about something like player safety. Refs allowing players to kick, horsecollar, choke and intentionally hold opposing players as a strategy, betting it won’t be called, risks injury.

Big Money is at stake, and the support isn’t there. Sankey wants at least one SEC team in the playoffs. UGA and Bama have looked wobbly and need propping up. No one considers UT a legit playoff team this year. A team that has to go through UGA and Bama every year to even get to the SECCG is a team that has to put itself in a position to overcome the odds.

UT knew the Vols could not expect a fair whistle in Tuscaloosa. The coaches knew they would have to be unstoppable to beat Bama in front of their home crowd. The players knew they would need to keep their composure, be mentally tough and not back down. I think CJH knew how he was going to respond in the presser and had backing to send the message he sent. He opened the door for the media to run with it.

Many think college sports is broken. But it’s running how those steering it intend it to go.
Then it’s time to stop being status quo, and make a stand! We are Tennessee! We are one of the founding members of this conference! Make a stand that we want fair officiating every single game, no matter where it is played, and no matter what is on the line. If the SEC does not want to give us that, then tell them we will gladly take all of our money and support to a different conference that would love to have us! It’s sickening to me that our great university and leadership, as well as our team and coaches, know exactly what is going on, and we will not make a bigger stand than this! No wonder we roll over and clam up when things start to happen the way they did in the second half yesterday. They all know that there’s no way to stop it no matter what we do. What a disadvantage those guys are at before the game even starts in some of these games! It’s ridiculous!

I mean that’s not a fair comparison. Kirby inherited as good of a situation at Georgia as you could ever reasonably expect.

Is an outright lazy comparison!

Here's what Kirby inherited.

2012: 12-2
2013: 8-5
2014: 10-3
2015: 9-3

Do I need to show what CJH walked into with the previous staff's record and looming sanctions?

Losing sucks but there is really nothing to compare between those 2 situations.

Heupel is still the man. We have come so far and our day at the top is coming. We need Nico to be the guy that takes our O back to the top. Defense has taken a step forward need an upgrade at QB. We legitimately can win every game on our schedule which hasn’t been the case the last 20 years. Keep stacking talent with NIL in recruiting and transfers. Heupel has had some aggressive calls not go his way this year with the 4th downs but he’s still doing a hell of a job. Best coach we’ve had since Fulmer for sure and I’m confident we will get to where we want to be. Stability going forward is key.

this. after every play, a kick, a shove, a push back to the ground....the bad part is they 'd only need to call it once early to get it to stop, or mostly stop all together...but they let it go the entire game.
Games called like this risk an all-out frustration fight with punches being thrown and players intentionally going after each other. I could see the UGA game getting out of control if this level of flagrant no-calls is allowed in Neyland. Guarantee you Sankey will warn UT about fans throwing things and other behaviors he finds more unacceptable than biased officiating. He'll be quick to sanction the former.

Also...this was Milton's best game of the year...28/41 271 yds 2td and 60 yards rushing. Yes he had the fumble at the end but the coaching staff failed him and this team with the offensive playcalling in the 2nd half ...it was atrocious. Which resulted in the defense getting gassed because the offense couldn't sustain any drives.
the defense didn’t put up much of fight from the start of the second half on.

Worst part about living in the Nashville area is every bar affiliated with sports in any way can't help but put some Bama trash on their walls.

I am sick of that bs and it's basically like this all over our state. It's disgusting how many Tennesseans are either bandwagon Bama fans or they pander to the alabama cockroaches that have fled their sh*thole state to live here.

f*** Bama, their refs and everything they stand for.

Someone with some authority needs to step in. Not toward the schools, but at these officials - who have autonomy absolute. If I **** a contract up, I get written up.

Before I was hired, there was a background check. My credit score was examined, criminal history (lack of), and social media (also lack of).

point is if an official is involved in gambling, is posting content pro alabama, or fails personality exam. Then theyre replaceae

Honestly the media needs to chirp the most/loudest about the officiating situation. Any coach does it at best half the narrative is just sour grapes.

But Heupel putting butts in the seats, increasing the local media's interest in our team and turning them from clickbait naysayers to supportive voices is a big part of helping us get better officiating.

Rick Barnes has done this with the basketball program, pretty rare you see media come down on him because he has created a winning culture, has great relationships with the media and fans and has a team full of great young men with high character. Just easier to flip 13-15 men rosters than 85+

What we do have working in our favor is that Georgia needs ranked, significant wins. Our game represents that, so the league has a vested interest in us succeeding in the short term.

The under center QB sneak may be simple in its design. I feel like people think it is much easier in its execution that reality. Basically that play is simplifying the play to one major variable. If the interior OL and interior DL simply fire off the ball directly into each other, who pushes who. There is no advantage gained by indecision, false steps, poor angles. Simply who pushes who in what direction. I am not convinced Mays/Lane/Spraggins win a pushing match with Alabama DL. We lost the interior OL/DL battle the entire 2nd half.
Could be. Bet have to remember pushing for 1 yard is a very favorable proposition for any offense.

Posted the statistics here sometime ago, but to put it simply, it's BY FAR the best short yardage play.

Imo coaches overthink it. It's one thing if the opposing defense is "winning" by holding you to 1-4 yard runs...but we just need 1/2 a yard.

And now with the combination of guys pushing from behind...that's really tough to stop. Even if the opposing interior DL is playing better. "Better" is still relative when you need less than a yard.

Yall talking crap crack me up.

The whole point about Kirby making it in year 2 is that he was doing what he was supposed to be with the roster he was given. He had been to Atlanta and was a QB change away from winning it all. There was reason for UGA to believe in him.

The only thing Heup has done is choked in every chance he's had to make Atlanta or the playoffs.

I mean
If CJH had that oline and defense that UGA had he’d probably would’ve won it
Our oline and wrs suck this year and the QB is slow making decisions…. Hard to play call with that and against the refs….

You bitch more then I do
Maybe you should find another team to cheer for or write Danny white an email with coaching suggestions or even send some to CJH

one last thing...despite a lot of the inequities in the officiating, i thing the single biggest impact on the game yesterday was the adjustments Bama made in their run game, and our lack of adjusting to that. they were moving people around, motioning everywhere, really making us look at what was going on pre snap, and putting us on "reaction" mode vs playing down hill like we were able to do in the first half. there weren't very many pass rush opportunities in the 2nd half, and they were able to run around us.
Not having Pili to QB the defense has really hurt us in those spots. We don't handle eye candy well.

I was thinking a 60-40 split on the calls. This one was all-out, stop these guys. Sickening.

Also, this is just Heupel's 6th year as a HC. He's doing an exception job and I think he's really starting to find his identity as an overall leader and not just an OC playing HC.

He's making mistakes, learns from them and the team improves.

We missed Cooper for the first part of the season, have had starters on both sides go down that all impact the team and we're still sitting at 5-2 with 5 games left that are all winnable if we put it all together for an entire game on both sides of the ball.

The only team left with a roster as good as Bama's is Georgia and it'll be a home game after they play the toughest stretch in their schedule to date.
