Recruiting Football Talk VII

you have to look at an overall program….. Phil was unable to adapt to the changes in football…. His recruiting suffered and is a big reason that Kiffin had to play walk ons….Only one person has called for Barnes to be fired and that is just checkerboards…..If we lose HEUP, CRB, Vitello….. i have no doubt that we will be fine bc we have a solid foundation from the top down…. It’s a great time to be a Vol!!!
Fulmer abandoned his own high school connections and evaluation network in favor of services. Maybe it was laziness/complacence or maybe it was an attempt at embracing the future...definitely failed in relation to other programs.

I still don’t think baseball could be successful without Vitello. Just too far behind right now with the facilities and infrastructure.

The other two should be fine, but they always should’ve been and haven’t.

I will forever be disappointed in our Admin for the down years. You're right, if not for incompetence or lack of focus, we should always be competitive in Football (I can see basketball coming and going). Was some of the issue the fact that Tennessee was trying to be an 'Ivy League School of the South'?

Wife and I do carb cycling. Will probably move to the low-GI (slow carb) paradigm soon. We eat keto 6 days a week, and cycle onto carbs one day a week. This is mostly for our resistance workouts. The cycle onto carbs helps build muscle as straight keto doesn't signal the body to build muscle as well. (I also take in some limited carbs pre-workout on workout days for that same reason.)
That's pretty much what I do except I generally go 12-2 on the cycling. I can't really work out anymore because I hurt so much every minute of every hour of every day now....in too many places.

When I get back from vacation I'm going back to the eat all the meat I want schedule...I lose weight slower, but I don't crave glucose near as much.

I ain't gonna lie...the last few weeks have been rough.
I struggle with the “not eating certain foods like potatoes, bread, pasta, and sweets”..so therefore, I just try to limit those foods and leave myself open to eating a baked potato or plate of spaghetti and such every now and then..I do eat a lot of green veggies like salad, green beans, broccoli etc.I get plenty of exercise at my job to burn the carb calories off..☺️

Thank you!!!

@Orangeredblooded this is why I stopped coming around. Too many people with too many real problems and get on here just to see whiny babies complaining about players and coaches as if they are supposed to stomp their foot and get whatever they want exactly when they want it. Didn’t have time to do much but look for some posts to like. Couldn’t find any. Have time today because of a painful broken wrist only to find bitching about our successful basketball coach because he is not perfect enough.
The ignore feature is your friend. The #1 ignore should be that checkerboards guy. Prototypical troll that degrades the quality of the forum.

@peaygolf

A friend and I were playing golf. After the third hole he announced, "This is kind of boring. Whaddya say we make it more interesting?" He is a pretty good golfer and I think he wanted to wager. So, I replied, "to make it more interesting, how about we just stop playing golf?"

My windshield was covered in ice this morning and I didn't have a proper scraper to remove it so I used my store discount card.

But I only got 20% off.

I'm grateful every day that we now have Heupel, Barnes, and Vitello coaching our men's teams after all the lean years. And a special thank you to Danny White!

I just hope for people willing to discuss, instead of adults acting like toddlers.
Weren't' you one of the one's roasting me over my lack of fandom for the Titans and you have the stones to bisch about Barnes?

One would think we’re already in the off season.

No my point is, I believe with competent leadership and actual support, a good AD can find another coach who can accomplish what Barnes has done.
That's why I call for him getting fired, I want DW to prove to you all that there are other coaches out there that can do what Barnes has done with competent leadership.
Do you realize there are only 7 active coaches to win an NCAA championship? And only 1 with coach with multiple championships.

You don't think our opponents going from #1 most penalized to 100th most penalized in a single year is weird? Were the officials over-calling penalties last year or under calling penalties this year? It's hard for me to think that there were anywhere close to the number of invalid penalties last year as there have been on missed penalties this year. I fully admit that may be personal bias, but on the surface, it doesn't add up at all.

I would also argue that the statistical analysis of two full games without a single hold, DPI, etc is a big anomaly. And taking just road games into account, there has been only a single live penalty (1st qtr holding against Florida). Since then, nothing. Not a single live flag thrown against our road opponents.

That is crazy.
I'm saying there's variance, of course. And also we've seen the really good side of that variance 2 years running. Our opponents were penalized 23rd most the year before being #1 last year. Not a lot of handwringing by us, but lots by opposing fans (point being - all these things go both ways at some point)

Nor is being 100th out of 131 teams some absurd cosmic event lol. It's the bottom 24%. Not like were 131st by a mile or something.

I actually can’t blame you east TN folks for not being Tits fans. Easier drive to atlanta and Charlotte than Nashville it feels like

Likely unpopular opinion, but I don’t care.

I never liked Bobby Knight and never had respect for his coaching style and inflated ego. Just not for one for the drill sergeant style of beating and cussing players into submission. By contrast, Josh Heupel, Rick Barnes, and Tony Vitello are precisely the types of coaches who not only pull the most out of their players, but earn respect in the right way.

Going back further, Pat Summitt was a tougher coach, but those players always knew she loved them and wanted the best for them, and they loved and respected her because of it.
Bobby Knight was a little child in a man's body.

I have zero respect for coaches like him and ole Woody at Ohio St.

Morons thinking they were entitled to abuse other humans, whether physically or verbally, if not also mentally, because somehow being a coach gives you that right 😑 Clearly they had their own issues and were sociopathic.

Try being a boss at work or a teacher and pulling that crap. So glad we've left that garbage mentality in the past (mostly).

maybe i missed it but where is this statistical analysis from prior season oppponent penalties provided?

it would be fair to share that analysis when making this statement.

otherwise, i call BS.

nothing personal but footnotes are a thing for documentation.
Cfbstats is my favorite go-to for extended, albeit not "deep" stats, like SECStatCat or PFF might provide. But way more data than typical ESPN, CBS Sports, etc.

I've concluded over the years of reading your posts you don't know much about Tennessee football or basketball history. If we win 25 games, that will be one of the 10 best seasons we have ever had in 116 seasons of playing the sport... Also, Rick Barnes has produced most of our really good seasons.
Crazy how good we've been this century.

I can remember growing up in the 90s and it was so terrible. But I kept listening and watching. I can remember Steve Hamer and other dudes while listening to the radio. I can also remember hearing the call on us missing 5 straight missed chip shots after 5 straight rebounds. We were laughably bad at times.

Folks better enjoy. We've never been so good.

There's room for opinion on most things but if you are anti-Barnes you are probably mentally ill. I mean Bobby Knight was a great coach but I can see how people might not like him because of his personality and actions, but there is not one thing that can be held against CRB. On or off the court.
Bro.......

I think most will agree he has done more for our program than any other basketball coach, and UT will be hard pressed to find a better replacement when he retires, but at the end of the day, folks center on the NCAA tourney and well, as great of a coach as he is, no one can argue that he's come up short quite a few times in important big games of that tourney where we should have won. As a head coach, he has to take some of the blame. period.

Just lost 31 pounds in 6 weeks the old fashioned way...just completely cut carbs out of my diet.
Especially when combined with the tried and true "Bubba Mcgill's Classic Curmudgeon Exercise Regimen"

- Quickly pace back and forth in your house at least 2 hours a day ranting and raving about anything that comes to you.

- If you're short on ideas on things to rant against, here's some starters: horse****, camel****, idiot margins, things that make others happy, things that make others sad, the laughter of a small child, hopes, dreams, etc.

- That's it, you're done. Now, top this great exercise off with at least 4 doses of blood pressure medication.

Everyone likes to suck off Bruce, but I hardly remember any of his players besides you know, the good ones, I also only really remember the elite 8 season lol

With Barnes, it feels like you connect and actually know every player that’s come and gone since he’s been here. I know it’s stupid, but it’s the little things sometimes

I was at UT for the end of Buzz and Bruce’s first few years. The change in energy and relevance was dramatic and tons of fun. Those teams with Lofton and Bradshaw were really great to root for.
