Likely unpopular opinion, but I don’t care.

I never liked Bobby Knight and never had respect for his coaching style and inflated ego. Just not for one for the drill sergeant style of beating and cussing players into submission. By contrast, Josh Heupel, Rick Barnes, and Tony Vitello are precisely the types of coaches who not only pull the most out of their players, but earn respect in the right way.

Going back further, Pat Summitt was a tougher coach, but those players always knew she loved them and wanted the best for them, and they loved and respected her because of it.
Totally agree!!! 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡

(Allegedly) bad blood with their coach over the recruitment of his son, Ty Simpson. No idea if it’s true.
I loved seeing Fant throw that TD pass. Golden moment for a true Vol. He deserved the chance. F Simpson the elder if he didn't like it. We loved it. It was still the 2nd quarter; it's not like we were out there running up the score late. In fact, we mostly focused on burning clock the entire second half -- and Simpson prick seized that opportunity to claim that he "won the second half."

Simpson the elder is quite the azz, apparently. It's said that he lied to Heup and made a big deal of trying to act as if his son was too good for Tennessee altogether. Now he's on the bench at Bama, where perhaps he was only wanted in order to show that they could take a top recruit in Tennessee. A lot of people expect Ty to end up playing at Martin.

Name a previous coach we’ve hired that had the same level of talent Barnes had at Texas 👀 I’ll wait.oh and still came up short🥱
I can’t name a previous coach because I never cared enough about basketball to pay any attention until Barnes came along. Love him and the players he has brought in. So thankful we have him! Go Big Orange! You can always come back after he retires.

Just posting what I read lol... The 3 bowls I'm seeing is Music City, Houston, Mayo Bowl .....being predicted..
We'll see. If the SEC officiating continues to flagrantly cheat us, anything is possible, I suppose.

Let's just win this week (the present game is the biggest game) and get ready for Mizzou.

Everyone likes to suck off Bruce, but I hardly remember any of his players besides you know, the good ones, I also only really remember the elite 8 season lol

With Barnes, it feels like you connect and actually know every player that’s come and gone since he’s been here. I know it’s stupid, but it’s the little things sometimes

Bruce had the most loaded roster in our basketball history with three 5 stars on the court D Crews, R. Smith, JP Prince coupled with two amazing players he inherited in Julian Smith and Chris Lofton. He also had Tyler Smith, Wayne Chism, and Cam Tatum on that team. We won the SEC and lost in the Sweet 16.

Tell me how Barnes turning Admiral, Grant, Bone, Turner, and Alexander wasn’t one of the best coaching jobs at UT ever. How many stars did those players have next to their recruiting profiles? I think all were 3 stars except Alexander.
That team by Barnes will forever be my favorite! Love them!!!🧡🧡🧡

Barnes has brought this University back to very respectable in College basketball...some forget how bad back the 90's and early 2000's were...had a few good years but Barnes has brought dignity and stability to this University.... Same thing Heupel and Vitello have done in Football and Baseball... If any coach deserves to be critized it's CKH but I will just leave that argument for LVols forum...😉
Were the 90's and early 2000's that bad? Or did we have an extremely spoiled fan base that can't properly measure what success looks like?

They made 3 NIT's in the 90's before four straight tournaments from 97-98 through 00-01 then 2 NIT's in the four Buzz Peterson before Bruce.

That's not terrible for college basketball and the program was never that bad. When you look at the vols history every decade has multiple years of success and keep in mind the NCAA field was smaller and the NIT was a lot more inpressive and for a time a more prestigious tournament back in the 50's and 40's.

What we have seen with Bruce and now Rick is a level of success that is unprecedented for this programs history. So yeah, people talking about firing Barnes are just being dumb and don't understand what reasonable expectations are when it comes to Tennessee basketball. It's NEVER been national title or final four or bust. It has been make the tournament every year and make a deep run or bust. You certainly don't fire Barnes. You keep getting NBA players, you continue to sustain the success you know you will have with him which is tournament every year and maybe an NIT in a rebuilding year. You jeep him before he retires for the sake of the program's stability. We should be happy with where it is regardless of any early tournament exits, because we are a FOOTBALL school. We should be okay with just going to the tournament every year. The more you go to the dance the more chances you have to make a deep run. He's made two sweet 16's in five trips. Thats not awful at all. Stay the course!

Well you're not happy with Barnes....Tennessee could always bring back....Buzz Petersen, Donnie Tyndall, Wade Houston, Cuonzo Martin , or Kevin O'Neill.....take your pick....Forget Pearl he will never be back....some fans can't let the love go for the Cookout King...🤣🤣
Cookout King! Perfect name. His greatest accomplishment.

I thought of Pearl as kind of a snake oil salesman, not saying he wasn't a good coach. I never cared for his stunts. Barnes isn't constantly selling himself like Pearl did, he is very genuine.

Georgia, Missouri, Bama, Ole Miss, & LSU are all ahead of us right now in CFP rankings and will get the better bowls ahead of us.

The good news

Georgia: vs Missouri, vs Ole Miss, at TN
Bama: vs LSU, at Kentucky, at Auburn
Missouri: at Georgia, vs TN, vs Florida, at Arkansas
Ole Miss: vs aTm, at Georgia, at Miss State
LSU: at Bama, vs Florida, vs aTm

Bama and Georgia probably win out, and then winner is without a doubt in the playoffs. If Bama wins a close one in Atlanta both could be in the playoffs.

If those two win out then we'll be a 3 loss team with LSU and Missouri. Only Ole Miss at 2 losses would still be ahead of us in polls. So we could arguably be the 4th best SEC team left for bowl selection.

If we're a 2 loss team and miss the SEC title game then we could be considered the 2nd best team left in the SEC.

Way too early to predict bowls, lots of head to head games left to sort out teams ahead of us... I think the Citrus Bowl is very much on the table.

Tier 1 bowls the SEC has are the ReliaQuest Bowl, Duke's Mayo Bowl (it's an odd year so no Las Vegas Bowl), Gator Bowl, Music City Bowl, Texas Bowl, Liberty Bowl

I think only 3 bowls are "ahead" of the Tier 1... Orange, Sugar, Citrus and the Sugar isn't an option this year. Orange probably takes loser of SEC title game.

Jerry Green era was best years from 1990 through the great Buzz Petersen era ...4 year 97-2001...rest of years were below .500 or barely over .500..

I think personally my favorite TN team has been the 2021-22 team.

Santi is one of my all-time favorite players. You also had Fulky, ZZ, JJJ, & Chandler...the run they went on after losing at Arkansas where they won at Mizzou, beat #3 Auburn, beat Arkansas at TBA in the rematch, then won 3 straight to take the SECT title was a great few weeks of basketball...was also the last season of Tennessee sports I got with dad, didn't even know he had cancer until Easter that year. So we fully enjoyed that SECT run together.

Can't believe we are still b*tching about a Hall of Fame head coach putting us through the best period of basketball success in school history, with probably the deepest team we've ever had, who just upset #4 on the road in an exhibition without two starters.

Ffs, just enjoy watching him ride off in the sunset and cheer on our Vols along the way. Stop being such bitter babies.
Thank you!!!

@Orangeredblooded this is why I stopped coming around. Too many people with too many real problems and get on here just to see whiny babies complaining about players and coaches as if they are supposed to stomp their foot and get whatever they want exactly when they want it. Didn’t have time to do much but look for some posts to like. Couldn’t find any. Have time today because of a painful broken wrist only to find bitching about our successful basketball coach because he is not perfect enough.
