Recruiting Football Talk VII

They signed with a NBA development league..plus got paid...can't have their cake and eat it too..
That wasn't the G-League. The school negotiated their NIL and paid them monthly. Yes, we know it's an end around, but if the NCAA were to win on this one, they'll go after more standard NIL.

@butchna....how many National Titles would Jimmy Johnson have won if he had came back to college ranks after leaving Dallas.... recruiting would have been easy for him just flash those 3 Super Bowl Rings... unlike Saban who sucked as a NFL HC ask the Dolphins 🤣
He lost patience with the academics and recruiting aspects. Hell, he was tired of coaching pros! Doubt he would've stuck around three seasons. So at best, one.

Hey guys, I'll be brief. Just seeing the last page or two.

Thanks for any concern. I'm not traveling overseas and helping the less fortunate anymore. That season of life was 20 years, but that is over.

I am incredibly busy, working three jobs, way too many hours and honestly neglecting my own well being in somewhat disturbing ways. The other day I had to remember when I showered last. (it was only 4 days, but c'mon Nick)

I've always enjoyed doing the threads, and I'll continue to do them, but my quality is nothing like what I used to do. I used to dig into stats, scouting etc, and as you have probably noticed, most keys to victory are about the same because I'm not willing to invest the work into quality threads at the expense of other things that I already don't have the time to do. When I was in ministry, I had considerably more time and now I have to work non-stop just to not have enough. Anyhow...

I'm happy to do a basic skeleton thread like I just put up for the sake of VN tradition and may get into the weeds on a thread or two but I've been on fumes for awhile. Hopefully I will be moving my family back to Knoxville around the spring if I can shake enough coins out of the sofa but that's a story for another time.
Great to see you. Family first, Brother.

Classy answer. Anything else would have been the wrong thing to say.

There are people in a position to investigate the matter. HH is not one of them. He was one of the players on the field. Always a class act. Can hardly wait to see him get a chance to play again one day. I hope they gave him some forewarning and did not spring that question as a surprise. Also if he wasn't aware of the controversy details, they should have explained it better. A calm detailed explanation all in one place would have been very useful, and HH wouldn't have been the one recapitulating the evidence. Not just "there were the wristbands," and all like that.

I loved Majors and Fulmer, always heard Johnny was pretty arrogant with some administrators and boosters. I only have it on big rumor that I am sure many heard that at a big function Majors was boldly saying some here want me fired but they can’t do it. But I loved Johnny even though he was too stubborn and conservative in his offensive philosophy. I don’t know how much Fulmer had to do with Johnny being outed but it was probably a good time for Majors to retire. Phil’s downfall also comes down to hard headedness and a level of complacency. As much as I appreciate Phil he seemed to be losing field with the best competition, had Lane not bolted we would probably not endured the following 10-11 years and being toward the bottom of the league. In both their defense it is hard for coaches to survive more than 8-10 years anymore without winning conference championships and contending for national championships. GBO
I believe CPF would have figured it out. We jumped the gun.

Harbaugh has not cooperated with the NCAA investigation either. Or at least through the time of his wrist-slap warm-up schedule suspension. No word on his behavior in the continuing mess.

So this reasoning interests me. 😂

Two different fall guys to date and counting...
Dude is probably being paid to keep his mouth shut, but I'd love to see him spill the beans on the whole operation.

Nick, just do what you can with no guilt!!! Wish I could move you to Knoxville right now. 😞

It was a few years late imo. But also, in a sense, "jumping the gun" because when the AD finally made a decision it appeared to be a sudden knee-jerk reaction, late in the year, and with absolutely no forethought as to what to do next. There could have been a sudden health issue, for example, heaven forbid, and it was like they would have had no contingency thinking done, and no workable ideas about who to call.

And then to permit Kiff to put an out in his contract in case USC called was further extreme incompetence. That such an "out" existed is more on the AD than Kiff, who was an ass to try to steal everybody he could from us as he walked out the door. Just a flagrant AD sh-t show. I think they had had a few years to have known where they were going and to have some great candidates on tap. Their sh-t show shrank the candidate pool, in addition, by being so imbecilic.
