The media has access-- they're not doing anything with it. A few beat reporters have tiptoed around the issue, but most are choosing not to use their platform or their voice. Don't expect anything from the networks.
We need alum to fund and launch media that is willing and capable of telling our side of stories, like most every other major college team has, above all AL and GA.
Our media is toxic, hopeless, and
not local anyway. The KNS is a chain like Pizza Hut, Dollar Tree, McDonalds, and Walmart. Moreover, smirkers and trolls got hold of the Knoxville branch long ago.
Something like the weekly Nashville Scene of old (I haven't seen it in years but it started out brash and fun) could be established rather quickly, and needs to tell the stories that weren't told in UT football every week. They need to provide video and photographic evidence all the time. And establish a bank of evidence. They would need to be credentialed as soon as possible to attain access. They would take it as a badge of honor if the usual suspects snubbed them. Who cares?
But, also, I would think a competing local daily that had A+ sports news, analysis, and standard features would fly. Wouldn't people be willing to walk away from KNS, given the chance? Maybe just use all the tired ole sad-sack AP news for filler everywhere, and provide a regular stream of solid local (non-sports) features; this latter could come on over time. But go all-in on UT sports from the get-go.
In the meantime, we need dissemination through too many twitter sites to stifle.
