Or... maybe Griner went there because Mulkey was a proven winner and had already won one. She did it at a school that had never won it. You all are acting like winning one is no big deal. In high school the rule is pulled backwards or to the side. In college it says immediate. You are just never going to see it called when the runner ends up falling forward or if there is contact from a second defender. The rule is intended to prevent the runner’s legs from buckling underneath them. A defender can grab the nameplate/inside collar all day to slow the runner down. Heck you can grab the nameplate and hop on his back and ride him like a horse and it still isn’t a penalty.
