Again, didn’t see the game but this quote bothers me:

On if he had anything that led him to thinking a bad performance was coming

“No. We didn’t play well. Thought they continued to fight in the second half. End of the game. I didn’t like because I didn’t feel like we competed the way that we needed to finish it out, but did not— thought they practiced well.”

Since Heupel has been at Tennessee I’ve been pleased that at minimum the team competed to the final whistle. Sounds like they didn’t today. A team “quitting” in the midst of adversity is something I really can’t abide. Hope this is a wake up call and they can put this behind them.

Go Vols!

Media hacks piping in with Heupel complaints. Figures. Idiots have learned nothing from changing coaches every 3 or 4 years since the Fullmer days. Heupel will fix Heupel. Beat LSU like a drum on the road last year. Kentucky this year. Not sure all of that is accurate. He will make adjustments to the staff if needed. Finding the next flavor of the month ain't the answer. Continuity at the top of the program is critical. One thing I would like to see (just a personal preference) is the DC on the sideline and not in the box. Believe they are more hands on when that happens. Another thing to keep in mind, if you fire someone who are you going to get that's an upgrade?

The next 2 years the goal will be the playoff.

Atlanta is dead now.
Nope Atlanta is more impressive to me with the watered down expansion BS.

To get to Atlanta you have to beat at least 2 of the big 3, if not all 3(most years) It also means you are NC good.

With this new 12 team crap you can go 9-3 beat nobody and make it, the only way thats impressive is if you win 2 games and make the final 4.

How big was Alex Golesh?..... or ya think it has something to do with being limited at QB?
We desperately miss Golesh, from a gameplanning/playcalling stand point. I knew he would be missed but I underestimate his impact.

Joe does limit the offense and hardly makes a bad play call a positive gain but (I've said this all year) we don't/can't scheme guys open like the previous 2 years. Also the play calling has been predictable. How many times do we run the ball on 2nd and long? 90% of the time.

We run the same plays all game. How times did we run that double slant route?

How many deep balls did we throw? 2 all game? We don't push the ball down the field anymore. Maybe that's Joe, WRs or both. Hell idk.

That's the part that has been so frustrating bc we seen for 2 years our coaches out scheme/out smart opposing coaches game in and game out. That was our Big Joker going into every game. Hasn't been the case this year.

He’s showing that’s he’s not more and more as time goes on unfortunately. Next year is going to tell us if he’s it or not. I hope I’m wrong but he’s trending down and hasn’t overcome the same weaknesses for 3 years.
Trending down is an absurd statement. He’s overperformed so much in 2 years that somehow 8-4 is an inexcusable result.

There’s a lot to fix and improvement to be made but right now a lot of people are trying to throw out the baby with the bath water

This. Specifically Joe’s hesitancy to run the ball when there is an open lane.

This kills Coach Heupel’s offense. His offense requires a QB who will take the open lane, because it draws the Defense into a miss match for later.

Teams have realized that with Milton they do not have to truly worry about any of that. Stop his deep throw and you can beat Tennessee. Especially if you can stop our run game.

The last point is key. To win with Joe, you gotta be able to run the ball well. We failed to do that today. He’s not good enough to overcome a night when the run game isn’t going according to plan.

The pattern is showing. Run up scores/yardage against bad teams but too easy to shut down against quality teams---especially on the road
Meh, we ran routes on air against some quality teams last year. The road problems are real, though, and have to get corrected.

I love how you didn’t respond to me when I called out your hypocrisy

Here is my only request for the rest of the season. I know it won’t happen, but one can dream. Keep Joe in there to get blasted by Georgia next week and protect Nico, let Joe have one series on senior day as a thank you, then please for the love of god just let Nico play the rest of the Vandy game.

There is just no excuse with this season being over to not let Nico play against Vandy and the bowl game. He would still retain his redshirt and get valuable reps for next year.

It’s fair to say Heupel has definitely elevated the program. Also fair to raise questions about the trajectory and terrible road results some vs mediocre teams. Next year will answer a hell of a lot of those questions.
MIZZ may not be terrible. They were ranked top 15 and hung with ga and just beat us senseless. They may just be good this year. Had a lot of returning players.

I don't think anyone wants to fire Heupel. Just noticing and pointing out some larger red flags that are popping up. The SEC was not very good this year and you are seeing some bad/dangerous patterns. Awful on the road, poor discipline, etc.

He's gonna be 2-7 against the big 3. Our best win this year is either Kentucky or a 5-4 A&M team.

Nico is more sound as a QB than Milton is x1billion

The biggest thing with this coaching staff is I think they want Nico to do everything right and they didn’t want to rush him and create bad habits.

Last game showed how he has been coached. Heck just the tuck pass td showed he is already a better QB than Joe Milton will ever be….

Whens the last time you’ve seen a defense commit to Joe the way they did to Nico on that play. Answer you haven’t because Joe does all his stuff half arsed.
Not debating who's better. I'm just saying as a true freshman with our limitations at other positions on offense Nico isn't drastically better as a QB. He's not going to be the factor that wins any game remaining on the schedule.
