You judge a program by its POTENTIAL. Since Neyland got here in 1926 the potential of this program has been the ability to win conference and national championships.

The only time we are not competing for championships is when we have had awful coaching. Neyland retired and we kept running an antiquated offense until Dickey got here (still had a couple great seasons in there like 1956 because WE ARE TENNESSEE) Dickey screwed us and Bill Battle let everything go to shambles. Johnny had to rebuild. He did. Fulmer won a title. We fired him and everything went back to crap.

What happens when we finally get another good coach? Ranked number one in year two. How? BECAUSE WE ARE TENNESSEE. Not a freaking "8-4" program.

I get you are just referencing data, but that's just an incomplete perspective, but since you want to go there.

Tennessee was 645-256 from 1926-2008 before the debacle that was the last 15 years.

You know who in the SEC had more wins in that time frame than we did?

NOBODY.

Not an 8-4 program.
No, the only time we WERE perennially in contention was in the 1930’s and the 1990’s. Every other decade was several 7-4, 8-3 type seasons with one 9-2, or 10-1 interspersed. That’s what I expect. Content one out of every 3 to 4 years with good years in between. That’s how most programs are. Georgia and Alabama are abnormal.

View attachment 595153We are literally historically a 8-4 program
Guess we as Tennessee fans should just settle for mediocre teams every year
No chance to ever win a championship
8-4 is our ceiling
Hallelujah

Bama is historically almost is 9-3 and they do t settle
Tell them that there going 9-3 every year and there searching for a coach

We can win big here
we’re top 10 overall in damn near every historical college football record keeping
We’re One of the few places that can win big
I remember a lot of seasons better then 8-4
Hell of it wasn’t for butch Dooley and Pruitt our overall record would’ve been way better

Don’t tell me 8-4 is what we should be happy with
We should be a perennial playoff contender starting next year

The rebuild is still well ahead of schedule. We've has a 11-2, and now probably a 8-4. We shouldn't have expected he'd built a dynasty by year 2-3.

Viva CJH, baby.
Voice of reason. Saturday sucked bad, but play hard and competitive with an aggressive gameplan this Saturday, and let’s see where the chips fall. If we lose, bring it and dismantle Vandy, win the bowl game, and get to 9 wins. That is still making progress in the rebuild.

I want nothing more than for us to beat uga
If it took what happened Saturday against Mizzou for us to beat Georgia this Saturday, I would happily accept it. I live down here, and I’m so tired of these cocky fans. They need to be humbled. A beating to us would help that.

We have to clean up in the transfer portal. I know we addresses linebacker with peeli and that’s unfortunate. Losing bru and hadden didn’t help
Either. We have got to get quality bodies asap and figure this thing out.
Sure thing bro! I’m working on my manifesto right now

Herring can be a good-to-great SEC linebacker if he works for it. He's got to get faster and add lateral mobility. He seems to read things very well already, but athletically at this point he's behind Telander, Carter, and arguably Perry. Perry has looked very good imo but I wonder if they're still picking up how to run the defense. Losing Pilli was a huge blow because Herring was not ready.

I think we will be okay moving forward, especially if Herring works on the physical stuff this offseason. The aformentioned guys and the guys coming in are going to give us a talented LB group.
Is there a magic pill or something for this?

Otherwise it ain’t happening

Can’t believe we gave up 530 to mizzou
We’ve been on the verge of that all year
Defense philosophy is still bad
Dbs outside of number 5 suck and have for 3 years
Lbs haven’t been good this year either
Number 44 isn’t the guy this year
If the dline isn’t doing it’s job it’s even worse
Banks and CWM should be ashamed of themselves for that
And If the guys there recruited aren’t better then that’s another red flag

Interesting play…how would y’all feel if this was At Thompson 👀

I'd make one of my patented smartass remarks, but last time I made one about officials, it ended up on Message Board Geniuses. Apparently smart people don't understand nuance and humor. Dark humor, mind you, but still humor.

Still waiting for the rat to step up and admit they submitted it to MBG.

In 4 away games, our defense has given up 126 points. In the 5 home games, it's 63 points. Our defense doesn't travel. One less road game, but we still give up twice as many points. I have to think that ties back to coaching to some degree. I understand we don't get calls on the road, but we don't really get them at home either. So, it's not all on officiating.

By your measure, best in the nation is "literally historically" a 9-3 program. So we are within one game. We're slightly better than UGA.
