That's interesting. Similar story for my Dad at WVU, and Fairmont State.

Funny, years later I have to call on that area in WV. Ive been twice in two years, which of course Iament to my Dad. It really is a testament to human kind in what they'll endure to live in WV..
Hear hear!! FML! Fairmont St is recruiting our son pretty hard, and his mother and I are like, NO. He's not the least bit interested in going there anyway.
Side not about wrestling and FSU, a kid (well 19 yo senior) has a scholly to VT for rasslin, but hes thinking about going to Fairmont bc they are willing to let him play fb and wrestle.

Dont do it. Toll on your body isnt worth it, unless you're getting paid. Egos are fragile and can be fixed. Knees are a one time deal.

Plenty of great schools in VA and NC.

Dad ended up at High Point.

Before you know it we’ll all have to start embezzling money to fund our season tickets.

Here’s the photo they used on another news site.

Me, on the jury:

“Designer purses? - Shameful.”

“Cruises? - The gall of this lady!”

“Tennessee season tickets? - Not guilty.”

Schools aren't allowed to pay players. Coaches aren't allowed to hook players up with boosters either I don't think. Boosters and collective have to act independently.
So...if true, one school is gonna get punished for this, but it's OK for multiple (all? most?) schools to try to poach players from their current school? Crazy stuff.

What did WVU do?

1985 Tennessee wrestling finished 8th in the NCAA's, 4 All Americans, 1 National Champion. 1986 had another All American and was his redshirt freshman year. When they got back to Knoxville from the national tournament Doug Dickey congratulated them then told them he's terminating the program. I think that year Dickey terminated several men's programs to funnel money into the big 3 sports and keep the department in-line with Title 9. LSU and Tennessee were the best SEC wrestling programs and got canned the same year.

It was an unintended consequence of Pat Summitt's efforts, and she was sick about it. Her husband wrestled for Tennessee iirc.

Colorado State TE Dallin Holker 64 receptions, 767 yards, 6 TDs. Junior. Finalist for the John Mackey Award.

He's not in the portal, but I told his cousin that the Vols need a TE. I took his cousin to a Tennessee game 10 years ago (2013 Georgia OT loss) and to this day he says it's the coolest fan experience he's ever had. Big time athletic family: wrestling champions, professional dancers, etc.
Update: he's going to send the message to Dallin, but he thinks it's unlikely he will leave CSU. His wife is a track athlete at CSU.

They actually transferred to CSU from BYU and it was a double transfer. They're only going somewhere where both can compete.

Get in touch with the Joly kid from Uconn. You’re now officially VolNation’s transfer liaison for the TE position.

As someone who went through a little college soccer recruiting, can confirm. It's an enigma to me. So many great players I watched get totally ignored or overlooked and decide to either retire or take offers for other sports. Then lesser players end up at colleges with scholarships.

It's like they expect the Americans to reach out to them for interest while the coaching staff uses all their recruiting budget on foreign players. Instead of throwing the kitchen sink at local players winning regional and state awards.
Where did you play? And where did you live when you were recruited?

I played in Cobb county, GA and we had a ton of kids get recruited and play in college. I am biased, but we have one of the best pipelines here. We had numerous coaches and clubs watch us play at tournaments.

Take the wrestling scholly at VT. Maybe they'll let him walk on for football or something.

If he's not a major D1 football prospect then he probably can't anticipate a career in football. Wrestling doesn't have much professional future unless you're the best of the best.

But a free ride to Virginia Tech, one of the best public universities in the country, should override anything Fairmont can offer. Kid needs to consider leaving football in the past. VT has intramurals lol.

I'm currently a PhD candidate at VT and can give him advice or answer any questions.

Some posters...

NFL - "Go get the best FAs you can find to fill those positions."

CFB - "This transfer portal and NIL stuff is killing the sport."

They are both pay for play and always have been. The numbers got bigger and are more legit in CFB now. Go get that talent. Use the resources. Winning and success brings more resources.
The NFL doesn't have everyone on one year contracts though.

Men's college soccer is a joke anyway due to title 9. Most public schools don't have a team because the don't have enough female sports to keep up. Club teams are where you really have to go if you're serious about it. Almost like a minors for MLS

'The IRS is pitiful, they'll never catch me.'

-No one ever
Lol. IRS is a joke. When you make it blatant and you’re idiotic, you get caught. 90% of business owners are running personal stuff through their business and deducting it. But to what limit is key.

I've read most of if not all Connelly books, good reads.

Another author I've enjoyed is John Sandford with the Prey books, if you enjoy detective novels, Lucas Davenport is a bad ass too..
My favorite detective novels are by Simon R Green and Jim Butcher, but they aren't exactly normal detectives

Absolutely, and thankfully that's getting more prominent in the south and I think it'll improve in Tennessee with Nashville SC coming. Not to mention Chatt and Memphis have good professional teams.

Soccer needs a better professional develop system in the US. Really need the MLS to keep investing in that. Rarely do the college players have good pro careers (Jordan Morris is an example) it seems. Now the best are leaving home and going into professional development programs (usually in Europe) in high school.
