Recruiting Football Talk VII

There is absolutely zero evidence this is remotely true. We’ve hit the portal hard every year he has been here and landed some very important pieces.

Y’all are crazy if you think the staff didn’t know Echols was about to flip. It had nothing to do with telling Joly to kick rocks.
Heupel's been one of the hungriest portal recruiters out there going back to his UCF days. He reeled in something like 7 or 8 P5 transfers in a single offseason to a G5 program.

He knows what he's doing and what he wants, but in this day and age some will leave and you're not going to land everyone when your punching for big dogs.

Just look at our historical blue chip ratio this class to see recruiting hunger and prowess. But blue chips aren't easy gets, you cast a wide net, shoot your shots, and hope to get a small% of the highest quality guys. That means a whole lot of failure. Fragile folks need not apply. Heupel ain't fragile. Luckily our fans aren't coaches.

If it was left to volnation….. eric berry would have been a slot receiver…. Can’t believe people don’t realize that we need high end athletes on the back end.
Back in the day on NCAA for Playstation, I put Berry in at QB and ran the wildcat with him. Won the Heisman with him and started a heck of a dynasty. Of course, he still played safety too.

My favorite. 🤣🤣

Yahoo article says our bowl game is the 7th best one to watch. Good article in general for those like me who like bowl games.

Trying to understand. People saying we have to have a better result than 8-4 to really expect a top 5ish class. Last season we had that result but people said top 5 was not realistic because relationships are formed and many decisions made when prospects are juniors in HS. Does this mean the conventional wisdom is Vols have to have back to back 10-win seasons before we should expect better recruiting?
At this point, you seem to hold the opinion that this staff is not good at recruiting. I am just wondering who you thought we should have hired instead of Heupel. Your man Chip Kelly has not exactly set the world on fire at UCLA.

so you think all of this is inaccurate? o_O
Yes i do feel that it is inaccurate…first the qb thing…. Ole Miss only had 3* Austin Simmons committed at qb….. a far cry from one of the top qbs in the country… Nico was and is our future…. As for defense…. One of our top linebackers and our top corner was lost for the season…. We have not reached the point to where can adequately handle those kind of losses. Banks still finished top four/five in the SEC ppg allowed…. That seems like an above average job to me. Growing a program is hard and most don’t have the patience for it…. This staff has done an above average job so far. There are definitely things we need to improve and hopefully will in the future.

This guy leaked USC/UCLA to BIG10 a while before it happened

I have always felt that this would be the natural progression of things. There are 130 (or so?) FBS teams and and only a small fraction of those teams can win a championship. I believe that we need to significantly cut down on the teams that are eligible to compete for a division 1 college football championship. My thought is that you could do it by revenue. I just do not see how the current model is sustainable.

Headed to Disney with the family. Yall will need to keep @Weezer in check while I am gone. It is best to just put some WH hashbrowns out every so often and give him some rando to rough up in the WH parking lot. Other than that he will just wander around the area around Paper Mill Rd. The locals are used to him and don't freak out when they see him peeking in their windows anymore. Dueces.

New Tron ride is a must.

good post and good argument. I could poke a few holes in this and I disagree on Nico in that yes, we all want him to be the future and he's shown signs, but we truly have no idea what he's going to be able to do for 4 quarters of SEC play every week. We haven't seen enough but flashes. What happens if heaven forbid the kid gets hurt? Staff has indeed overall done an above average job in 3 seasons, but depending on what you want out of the program (Championships or 8-9 wins and a bowl) there needs to be an upgrade in talent still in some spots and it needs to be done quickly-- the other serious programs are making moves now. The second half of the year, recruiting has tanked and coming off last season, there's not much excuse for it.

What on earth? What has BJM done to draw your ire? Did you see the LB room when he showed up? Do you see the young talent in there now? And he’s force feeding them time trying to get them experience while also dealing with injuries. Looks like he’s doing everything he can to build a quality room.

It doesn’t happen overnight. This roster was putrid when Heup got here.
💯 Marco
