Recruiting Football Talk VII

I’m just a Captain trying to help them get more members because I think NIL is important, believe in our players being treated well and also think the perks of being a member are no brainers for the investment.

I am far from a formal spokesperson for what the major power players on all three sides think. (Coaches, Top Boosters, TVC staff)

In the end I’m just a fan on a message board voicing my opinion.
You know that's your opinion but saying you think they don't try as hard are very strong words and a pretty harsh accusation. I'm just going to be honest here; in your role as Captain, you should keep such opinions to yourself because whether you like it or not, that could influence potential donations in a negative way. I think you're a good poster and I appreciate your efforts on behalf of our players. I just think you're wrong here

How I miss the good ol’ days of college football. No transfer portal, no CFP, little to no bowl opt outs.

The sport ain’t what it used to be and won’t until it hits rock bottom and has to be rebuilt from the ground up.

Ain’t gonna hit rock bottom. 30 years ago a lot of people said free agency would ruin the NFL. Goodell has tried his damndest to ruin the NFL by changing every thing he can possible change - draft days/locarion, overseas games, expansion, wokeness, castrating defenses with rule changes, etc etc etc.

Everyone complains. Viewership still thrives.

It’ll remain the same way in college.

I won't start a new thread, but I think this topic is worth one.

Perspective is killing us, but it shouldn't be. We lost Seaton so the sky is falling, but had we landed him we would have shot up in the rankings and everyone would feel 180 from how we do right know. Most sites had us as the leader until Deion Deioned.

Our class was similar last year but we got Nico and everyone would point to Nico whenever any negativity arose. Seaton was Nico for this year. Unfortunately we missed. Barely missed. We are still a force to be reckoned with in recruiting and that is despite less talent in state and all the other obstacles Pruitt left us with.

My point is we are one blue chip away from being in the top 5 and that is despite not winning any championship, having less in state talent, having to navigate reductions, and being just recently under investigation.

Oh and we are good in like every stinking sport now too.

It is a great time to be a vol fan.

Perspective - find some
Good post but I don't think the frustration on here is about just Seaton, it's that once again we fall short on a top tier talent that we need for whatever reason. Seaton happens to be the latest this season. Many forget the spring and summer, even into the fall of how many difference makers we've been hot on/top 2-3 and whiffed on. Seaton just seems to be the nail in the recruiting frustration coffin.

The Seaton thing doesn't factor into my current view on recruiting. Nothing the staff could have done there as multiple schools got played, and it was orchestrated by Deion for publicity.

I've been concerned with recruiting for months, but I've tried to bite my tongue as much as possible because there are a lot of posters who hate discussing recruiting in the recruiting forum. I believe there is real reason, AT THE MOMENT, to be concerned with recruiting. That doesn't mean the staff won't pull a rabbit out of their hat. But a Jaren Sensabaugh or a 3* TE to replace Echols are not rabbits out of the hat IMO.

I still feel strongly that recruiting HAS to get better. JMO
We do have some positional issues that i think bleeds and or involves recruiting. Heup does need to address that. For me it is DB's and TE's. We don't play enough secondary guys, and Alec seems to be a little lost on the recruiting side.

We landed some too.

I am glad we went 8-4 this year but the stubbornness at QB regarding Milton has been ridiculous. Even before Hooker got the Start Joe Milton was inconsistent as mess.

This year he was super inconsistent. Both years Heupel and staff chose Milton knowing what he was.

That is the scary part of it. I hope our offense this next year is much improved because our passing game was atrocious this year…..
This is accurate and should definitely make folks pause and think a minute.

Absolutely we did, but the number of losses is crazy --- we missed on at least 6 or more huge year one or two difference makers that would elevate the program. Coming off last year's season and the incredible recruiting buzz and hype we had in the spring, to end up like this at the end is very mehhh and head scratching. What happened? Not taking anything away from all the talent we are getting, but you finish with even 3 or 4 more of the 6-8 we seemed to have had in the boat at one point, and we are looking at a top 3-5 class and setting ourselves up to close the gap on the elite programs. We fell short.

At our current speed it seems we will just sit on the sideline and watch everyone else scoop up the talent, wait till everyone is finished, look both ways, then step into the portal to see if anything is left over...
Maybe, just maybe a bunch of players aren’t going to enter the portal until after bowl games.

Perhaps. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the sport will be dead in ten years or anything. It will thrive for many more years. Eventually, though, inadequate, money hungry leaders run good things into the dirt.

i don’t think they are stubborn…. Milton beat out Hooker in camp…. The light didn’t really come on for Hooker until his second or third start. This year….. Joe was only option…. we had a true freshman that they didn’t feel was ready and a walk on.

At UCF…. they benched a veteran for a true freshman in Dillon Gabriel. There will be ups and downs as we push to be great… if 8-4 are the down years then i am all for that…. Can’t wait to watch Nico dominate in the future.

That’s it. I personally hate when someone declares that they’re putting someone on ignore, but here we are. You’re number 3. Oh, I know you don’t give a crap and I’m not the sort of person to spout off to a person and not give them the platform to respond. Life is too short to be miserable about a sports team or be a troll. Good luck.
thanks for letting me know I hurt you, I'll sleep better tonight now that you let me know my opinion and words upset you enough that you couldn't just scroll by and move on... I'll try to do better...triggered much snowflake? You got a trophy for showing up to practice didn't you? This site is so funny when someone has a negative opinion they are automatically categorized by default as a "troll"... everyone loves that word. Lazy.

Show me anything he said that was wrong or not accurate?
This year was not an overachievement by any stretch of the imagination. We had the worst qb play and offense that heupel has ever fielded as a HC. Our defense let us down at the worst times, mainly at the secondary and sometimes at lb too, our passing offense was WILDLY inconsistent and we mismanaged the qb situation as a whole. If we had no intentions of playing Nico, then we should have either tried keeping Jackson or gotten a transfer qb. And dont try the bs of “no quality qb would come here because Milton already had the job” cause that is ********, look at Ole Miss: they had Dart locked as the starter and a good freshman qb coming in, yet they still pulled Oklahoma State’s leader in most passing records as well as another transfer qb.The fact how Heupel wants to keep Martinez and Banks simply for continuity is being complacent, the Missouri loss was on our defense foremost, we about lost to Kentucky because of our defense. Just because the stats show we are middle of the road does not show the true story
