I don't think we're forcing anyone out, but we're not begging them to stay. I'm also not certain there's anyone leaving that we don't want to leave. Maybe Baron, but not even sure on that.No. Some they don’t want to leave are leaving. It’s not all kids being forced out.
Heupel isn’t Dabo swinney, but he isn’t Deion either. He’s probably what most coaches are, something in the middle.
You keep saying 6 DBs. You're conveniently ignoring the fact that Burrell and Turnage both walked at Sr. Day and weren't expected back to begin with.I highly doubt they wanted 6 DB’s to leave, especially with two of them being by regular starters.
I wouldn’t call it a meltdown. I just don’t think they have some grand scheme and forcing them all out was part of it. We don’t have any DB’s on the board to replace any of those guys. Depth is depth. I’m sure they’d rather have bad players than no players. You keep saying 6 DBs. That leaves, D.Slaughter, McDonald, Lutrell and Rucker. 2 of which never saw the field, and were potentially recruited over. And 2 others, by most accounts are only playing as placeholders until the younger guys are ready.
I'm yet to see someone leave that can't be replaced. This seems more flawed than your Tony V. to LSU meltdown.
The portal has been open exactly one week today. Yet, I've seen about 4.3 million posts this week on how Tennessee isn't being aggressive enough. Now that the staff is making room to pursue guys, we don't like that either? Not necessarily but I guess time will tell. We’re simply not paying guys because they straight up are no good and they have an over-inflated value of themselves. We aren’t brining in studs to replace anyone to get better overall so I don’t think it’s necessarily the same thing. They could very well be counting on the young guys but they gotta start plugging some holes with experienced players. Something’s gotta give if we want to truly compete for NCs like we say we do.
That’s the point. Not all of us think they forced everyone to leave. The portal has been open exactly one week today. Yet, I've seen about 4.3 million posts this week on how Tennessee isn't being aggressive enough. Now that the staff is making room to pursue guys, we don't like that either?
Make up my mind already. Can't have it both ways.

If we can and don’t, I think that’s what most people are worried about. A little early in the cycle to be too worried, but I don’t think patience is a strength around here. It’s really hard to sit here and watch other teams address needs when our NIL is rumored to be better than theirs. And Baron. But... spilt milk. We just need to be on the right side of the portal-- and we definitely can be.
if we wanted to keep them…. we could have done what it took to keep them….. That’s a promising sign.I wouldn’t call it a meltdown. IDK what anybody's asking, but in general, many guys have an inflated sense of value and overplay their hand. They see others getting more and think "why not me?" They think they can test the waters and come back if it doesn't work out. Well, it may not work out and nobody's holding their spot.
I think the coaches go after a very specific profile with a clear idea of what they need and what that's worth. When some of the big names don't fit that, UT backs off and the guy goes elsewhere. Sometimes, they just miss because a big name prefers another program. Can't win 'em all, but I agree we need to win our share. And therein lies the problem. We seem averse to chase the actual difference makers, and content with "depth pieces". I hope that changes. Especially on defense where we could use some more difference makers.
