Recruiting Football Talk VII

I feel like they're afraid to take the risk on big talent at times. But we need big talent if we're ever going to truly compete for championships again.
Just because they have an extra * by their name doesn't always mean their big time talent...

Culture and fit should be top priority always.....

In the last two years we’ve ranked around 40ish in the portal iirc. That is the body of work so far and the reason for the aggressive talk. We need difference makers and could be doing a better job of getting them.
We have been about 40th in the portal because we have focused on retaining guys. We have one of the lowest volumes of scholarship guys in the portal. You can't have it both ways IMO.
Some teams are using the hell out of it because they have to. SC has to replace like 20% of their roster for example. Yes, I would like to see us land more studs, but ours is a quality over quantity situation.

I’m not hurt over anyone leaving other than Slaughter. I thought he could be a great safety. But it is what it is.

Let’s go crush recruiting and the portal.
I hope they get him to stay, unless his departure is based on something we dont know about. I think he'd be good experience to have on the field and he seems to be a pretty solid defender

It's not about the *. It's what they've already done on the field.

@Outofmyvolcanmind ended his post with "I ....ing hate that word" , and he was talking about the word "retarded". I don't like hearing or reading the "f word", (even if 1 or 2 letters are removed). I may have worded my post a little confusing, but my point was comparing 2 offensive words.
"Retard" offends specific people and their loved ones.

**** such as in the sentence, "**** Alabama" should offend absolutely no one.

The guys leaving are the ones who didn't hear what they wanted to hear in the exit interviews. Everybody wants something-- a promised position, a move up the depth chart, more NIL $$-- and not everybody's getting it. UT wants anyone not all-in to be out this week so they can start bowl practice with a clear focus.
This is good news.

I am going to reserve the we can't compete talk until I see how we fare under Nico, without divisions, and with the expanded playoff.

My fear is secondary and WR/TE next year because unseasoned Nico needs weapons and the defense needs more than a pass rush. My other fear is 2025 if we don't start rotating playing more guys in 2024.

If you did want me to bitch about Heup then let's discuss penalties. That is an area I make no excuses. Ours are ridiculous.

I like that Heup sets a good culture.

I think the people saying we’ve forced 6 DB’s to hit the portal are coping at this point. I doubt we would tell that many to take a hike with seemingly no DB’s on the board to replace them.
It's not coping my god.

1) For two + years some of y'all have complained about these older DBs and wished we'd get rid of them to let the young talent play. Now we are doing exactly that and the sky is falling about it.
2) We do have DBs on the board to replace them. Saying we don't is a lie. We have offered and have scheduled visits for multiple DBs in the portal. We also have extremely talented FR & SOs at DB to replace them.

Dimwit?

I think people don't understand the kids background maybe.
He chose Colorado because of "primetime" who's a very celebrated African-American personality/coach.

He didn't dislike Heupel because he is white. And NO it's not the same as if Merklinger signed with Tennessee because Heupel is white. Two totally different dynamics in American race relations. You all know this. You know this...

I hate that the guy went there, and not Tennessee.

And most fans on here don't really want to hear about the "black experience" in America.
That's fine. But it is a different experience, even still today. Not like...40 years ago. My point is
He didn't dislike Heupel at all, or Tennessee. He just wanted to help a high profile black head coach, that he connected with on a much deeper level. What can you do???

Tennessee probably outbid Colorado and it didn't even matter.

We still got Warren, Anderson, and Perry.
I would caution judging this kid too harshly.
I get what you’re saying and can agree with some of it. IMO the whole “play for someone who looks like you” is going fall on deaf ears if he continues to run off people that “look like him” in the dick fashion we all saw when he arrived at CU
